摘要: We demonstrate a high-power blue emitting superluminescent diode (SLD) with a tilted-facet configuration. An optical power of 457 mW with a broad spectral bandwidth of 6.5 nm was obtained under pulsed current injection of 1A, leading to a large power-bandwidth product of ~2970 mW·nm.

High-Power Continuous-Wave and Acousto-Optical Q-Switched Ho:(Sc <sub/>0.5</sub> Y <sub/>0.5</sub> ) <sub/>2</sub> SiO <sub/>5</sub> Laser Pumped by Laser Diode
摘要: We experimentally investigate the continuous-wave (cw) and acousto-optical (AO) Q-switched performance of a diode-pumped Ho:(Sc0.5Y0.5)2SiO5 (Ho:SYSO) laser. A fiber-coupled laser diode at 1.91 ??m is employed as the pump source. The cw Ho:SYSO laser produces 13.0 W output power at 2097.9 nm and 56.0% slope efficiency with respect to the absorbed pump power. In the AO Q-switched regime, at a pulse repetition frequency of 5 kHz, the Ho:SYSO laser yields 2.1 mJ pulse energy and 21 ns pulse width, resulting in a calculated peak power of 100 kW. In addition, at the maximum output level, the beam quality factor of the Q-switched Ho:SYSO laser is measured to be about 1.6.

Narrow-line InGaN/GaN green laser diode with high-order distributed-feedback surface grating
摘要: We demonstrate narrow-line green laser emission at 513.85 nm with a linewidth of 31 pm and side-mode suppression ratio of 36.9 dB, operating under continuous-wave injection at room temperature. A high-order (40th) distributed-feedback surface grating fabricated on multimode InGaN-based green laser diodes via a focused ion beam produces resolution-limited, single-mode lasing with an optical power of 14 mW, lasing threshold of 7.27 kA cm?2, and maximum slope efficiency of 0.32 W A?1. Our realization of narrow-line green laser diodes opens a pathway toward efficient optical communications, sensing, and atomic clocks.

2nd-order random lasing in a multimode diode-pumped graded-index fiber
摘要: Raman lasing in a graded-index fiber (GIF) attracts now great deal of attention due to the opportunity to convert high-power multimode laser diode radiation into the Stokes wave with beam quality improvement based on the Raman clean-up effect. Here we report on the cascaded Raman generation of the 2nd Stokes order in the 1.1-km long GIF with 100-μm core directly pumped by 915-nm diodes. In the studied all-fiber scheme, the 1st Stokes order is generated at 950–954 nm in a linear cavity formed at GIF ends by two fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) securing beam quality improvement from M2 ≈ 30 to M2 ≈ 2.3 due to special transverse structure of FBGs. The 2nd Stokes wave is generated either in linear (two FBGs) or half-open (one FBG) cavity with random distributed feedback via Rayleigh backscattering. Their comparison shows that the random lasing provides better beam quality and higher slope efficiency. Nearly diffraction limited beam (M2 ≈ 1.6) with power up to 27 W at maximum gain (996 nm), and 17 W at the detuned wavelength of 978 nm has been obtained, thus demonstrating that the 2nd-order random lasing in diode-pumped GIF with FBGs provides high-efficiency high-quality beam generation in a broad wavelength range within the Raman gain spectral profile.

Equine Surgery || Lasers in Veterinary Surgery
摘要: Surgical lasers facilitate minimally invasive surgery, allow surgical access to otherwise inaccessible areas, and induce tissue interactions, which cannot be obtained with conventional surgical instrumentation. Surgical laser procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis and have eliminated procedures that previously required general anesthesia and hospitalization. Surgeons should be knowledgeable about which procedures can be accomplished with surgical lasers and which are better suited to conventional surgery. This chapter will provide information and guidelines on the use of surgical lasers in equine surgery.

摘要: We report the demonstration of real-time high-quality multimedia data streaming over a laser-based indoor visible light communication (VLC) link consisting of blue laser diode excited remote phosphor as transmitter, an amplified ac-coupled silicon photodetector as the receiver and USRP platforms for data modulation/ demodulation. The VLC link has been separately characterized and supports bandwidth > 800 MHz. Streaming of 1280 x 720 HD video is successfully demonstrated over this VLC link with an ethernet link data rate of 200Mbps and RF carrier frequency at the radio front-end at 245 MHz. When compared to previous multimedia streaming demonstrations in LED based VLC links, the high link data rates, and RF carrier frequency as reported here are achievable due to the large inherent bandwidth supported by laser sources. The potential applications of this demonstration are in next-generation heterogeneous wireless networks in which Wi-Fi and VLC links link as co-exist. The high-bandwidth optical wireless link demonstrated here is suitable for low-latency, data-intensive, dedicated communication, for example in robotic telepresence, tactile tasks, etc.

Temperature Dependence Model of the Laser Diode Bar Current-Voltage Characteristic
摘要: Based on an analysis of di?erences between the experimentally measured temperature dependence of the current-voltage characteristic (I–V curve) of a laser diode bar (LDB) with AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructure and the dependence obtained in accordance with the well-known model of light-emitting diodes, assumptions were made about the sources of these di?erences. The agreement between the experimental and modeled dependences is signi?cantly improved by taking into consideration the change in the resistance of LDB layers caused by temperature change. It is shown that when the injection current is known, the measured voltage drop across the LDB can be used to estimate the temperature of the diode active region in order to implement thermal stabilization for solid-state laser pumping systems based on high-power laser diodes.

Determination of citalopram in fish brain tissue: benefits of coupling laser diode thermal desorption with low- and high-resolution mass spectrometry
摘要: Recent state-of-the-art methods developed for the analysis of polar xenobiotics from different types of biological matrices usually employ liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. However, there are limitations when a small amount of sample mass is available. For example, individual benthic invertebrates or fish tissue samples often weigh less than 100 mg (e.g., brain, liver) but are necessary to understand environmental fate and bioaccumulation dynamics. We developed ultra-fast methods based on a direct sample introduction technique. This included coupling laser diode thermal desorption with atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (LDTD-APCI-MS). We then quantitated a common selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (citalopram) in brain tissues of individual juvenile fish after in vivo exposure to environmentally relevant concentration. Two mass spectrometric methods based on low (LDTD-APCI-triple quadrupole (QqQ)-MS/MS) and high (LDTD-APCI-high-resolution product scan (HRPS)) resolutions were developed and evaluated. Individual instrument conditions were optimized to achieve an accurate and robust analytical method with minimum sample preparation requirements. We achieved very good recovery (97–108%) across the range of 1–100 ng g?1 for LDTD-APCI-HRPS. LDTD-APCI-QqQ-MS/MS showed poorer performance due to interferences from the matrix at the lowest concentration level. LDTD-APCI ionization was successfully validated for analysis of non-filtered sample extracts. Evaluation of final methods was performed for a set of real fish brain samples, including comparison of LDTD-APCI-HRPS with a previously validated LC-heated electrospray ionization-HRPS method. This new LDTD-APCI-HRPS method avoids the chromatographic step and provides important benefits such as analysis of limited sample masses, lower total sample volume (typically μL), and reduction in analysis time per sample run to a few seconds.

Fabrication and luminous properties of phosphor ceramic for application in automotive laser headlight
摘要: We report on the optimization of fabrication of a ceramic phosphor plate (CPP) using α-Al2O3 as functional materials for an automotive laser headlamp. The prepared CPP shows the high luminous characteristics with increasing α-Al2O3 contents because of the light scattering of the hexagonal structure of α-Al2O3 materials. We investigated the correlation between α-Al2O3 and thickness of CPP. The luminous properties of the CPP are improved and optimized according to the variables of one. We found that the prepared sample is a potential material for future solid-state laser lighting in application as an automotive headlamp.
