  • An in depth characterization of the spectroscopic properties and laser action of 10 at% Yb doped Y3ScxAl5-xO12 (x = 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5) transparent ceramics

    摘要: We report on the spectroscopic and laser emission properties of 10at.% Yb:Y3ScxAl5-xO12 (Yb:YSAG) ceramic varying the amount of Sc (x) ranging from x=0.25 to x=1.5. The samples were fabricated by a solid state reaction method followed by vacuum sintering and annealing in air. The spectroscopic investigation has evidenced an increased broadening in both the absorption and the emission spectra for increasing Sc content, as well as an extension of lifetime at increased Sc content. Concerning the laser performance, the maximum slope efficiency, i.e. 76.6%, was obtained with the sample with x=0.25 while the largest tuning range, i.e. 81 nm, with the sample having the highest concentration of Sc ions (x=1.5); a steady broadening in the tuning bandwidth for increasing scandium content was measured.

  • Yttrium iron garnet – lead-barium titanate particulate multiferroic composites

    摘要: Ba1(cid:1)xPbxTiO3/Y3Fe5O12 particulatecomposites with [ ? 0–1 were syn- thesized. The composites (100-y) wt.% Ba0.9Pb0.1TiO3 – y wt.% Y3Fe5O12 with e ? 40–50 wt.% exhibit ME coupling coefficient De/DH of (cid:3)10 mV/(cm(cid:4)Oe) due to the prominent piezoelectric properties. ME response in ?a1(cid:1)[PbxTiO3/Y3Fe5O12 ceramics with [ ? 0.35(cid:1)1 is precluded by a high content of pyrochlore-type Y2Ti2O7 that forms through chemical interaction. An increase in sintering temperature to 1300(cid:5)(cid:3) was found to be inappropriate to obtain phase-pure ?aTiO3/Y3Fe5O12 ceramics due to the partial decompos- ition of Y3Fe5O12 to yttrium orthoferrite YFeO3.

  • Influence of Substrate Stage Temperature and Rotation Rate on the Magneto-Optical Quality of RF-Sputtered Bi2.1Dy0.9Fe3.9Ga1.1O12 Garnet Thin Films

    摘要: Highly bismuth-substituted iron garnet thin films are prepared on quartz substrates by using a radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering technique. We study the factors (process parameters associated with the RF magnetron sputter deposition technique) affecting the magneto-optical (MO) properties of ferrite garnet films of composition Bi2.1Dy0.9Fe3.9Ga1.1O12. All ?lms show high MO response across the visible range of wavelengths after being annealed. In particular, the effects of substrate stage temperature and rotation rate on the various properties of ?lms are studied. Experimental results reveal that the characteristics of garnet ?lms of this type can be tuned and optimized for use in various magnetic ?eld-driven nanophotonics and integrated optics devices, and that, at a substrate stage rotation rate near 16 revolutions per minute, the MO quality of the developed MO ?lms is the best, in comparison with ?lms deposited at other rotation rates. To the best of our knowledge, this is the ?rst report on the effects of deposition parameters on the properties of garnet ?lms of this stoichiometry.
