  • Off-Grid Compressive Channel Estimation for mm-Wave Massive MIMO with Hybrid Precoding

    摘要: To reduce the pilot overhead and improve the channel estimation accuracy in the massive MIMO system, various channel estimation algorithms employing the sparse signal reconstruction (SSR) scheme have been proposed. However, the spatial grid division leads to the trade-off between the estimation accuracy and the computational complexity. In addition, when the true angle is not on the discretized grid point which is referred as off-grid problem, the performance of SSR-based algorithms will degrade heavily. In this letter, a novel channel estimation algorithm which achieves superior performance under the off-grid scenario is proposed. At first, the conventional joint angle of arrivals/departures (AoAs/AoDs) estimation is transformed into two one-dimensional sub-problems. Then, the SSR-based framework is presented to obtain the initial sparse-support set. By minimizing the constructed objective function, the off-grid errors regarded as adjustable parameters are iteratively refined. In addition, scatter gains are acquired by LSE. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of estimation accuracy and computational complexity.

  • Channel modeling and analysis of OWC-massive MIMO systems

    摘要: In this paper, we study the difference between the uplink and downlink channels of short-range slant free-space optical wireless between Ground - alpine base stations using massive MIMO linear arrays at both ends. The uplink and downlink atmospheric loss, scintillation, beam spreading and pointing error model of linear array slant range are constructed. The uplink and downlink atmospheric loss, spatial coherence length, receiver beamwidth, pointing error variance, relative mean square error (RMSE) and bit error rate (BER) are compared and analyzed under different distances of different wavelengths of light waves. After simulation analysis, it is concluded that the uplink and downlink atmospheric losses are the same, the uplink receiver beamwidth is larger than the downlink, and the downlink coherence length and the pointing error variance are larger than the uplink, and both monotonously change with the wavelength of the light wave and the propagation distance.

  • Precoding and Detection for Broadband Single Carrier Terahertz Massive MIMO Systems Using LSQR Algorithm

    摘要: The terahertz (THz) communication utilizes the frequency spectrum above 300 GHz and is widely considered as a promising solution to the future high-speed short-range wireless communication beyond millimeter wave (mmWave) communication. While providing tens of gigahertz bandwidth, it is subjected to high propagation path loss, inter-symbol and inter-user interferences. The massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) can be applied to address these problems by cooperation between many access point (AP) antennas. However, the THz channel characteristics, including high propagation path loss, frequency selectivity and big number of samples per channel impulse response (CIR), require carefully tailored algorithm for massive MIMO signal processing. In this paper, we propose a single carrier minimum mean square error (MMSE) precoding and detection algorithm for frequency selective THz channels. The MIMO signal transmission is described with the block matrices. A gain control heuristic is introduced to reduce the complexity. The sparsity property of the channel is utilized to construct sparse channel matrices and the least square QR (LSQR) algorithm is applied to efficiently solve the problems. Besides the uniform antenna array, the hybrid array consisting of several subarrays is considered as well. Simulation results show that the massive MIMO array can provide a satisfactory performance in terms of bit error rate (BER).

  • Beam Training and Allocation for Multiuser Millimeter Wave Massive MIMO Systems

    摘要: We investigate beam training and allocation for multiuser millimeter wave massive MIMO systems. An orthogonal pilot based beam training scheme is first developed to reduce the number of training times, where all users can simultaneously perform the beam training with the base station (BS). As the number of users increases, the same beam from the BS may point to different users, leading to beam conflict and multiuser interference. Therefore, a quality-of-service (QoS) constrained (QC) beam allocation scheme is proposed to maximize the equivalent channel gain of the QoS-satisfied users, under the premise that the number of the QoS-satisfied users without beam conflict is maximized. To reduce the overhead of beam training, two partial beam training schemes, an interlaced scanning (IS) and a selection probability (SP) based schemes, are proposed. The overhead of beam training for the IS-based scheme can be reduced by nearly half while the overhead for the SP-based scheme is flexible. Simulation results show that the QC-based beam allocation scheme can effectively mitigate the interference caused by the beam conflict and significantly improve the spectral efficiency while the IS-based and SP-based schemes significantly reduce the overhead of beam training at the cost of sacrificing spectral efficiency a little.

    摘要: The multiuser massive MIMO (multi-input multi-output) system using low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) in the uplink is to realize low cost and power consumption demands, which, however, reduce the signal quality. Beamforming as a signal processing technique can supply high throughputs in the MIMO systems. In this paper, we investigate the robustness of low-resolution ADCs against the interference among the different streams in the uplink and the different users in downlink systems respectively, and propose the maximum ratio transmission - block diagonalization (MRT-BD) scheme as a kind of beamforming to evaluate the effects of low-resolution ADCs in the full digital massive MIMO system. The preliminary conclusion is that the MRT-BD scheme achieves our anticipation to make the rate achievable, even more than it in the infinite-resolution (no quantization) of BD case can be approached using ADCs with only a few bits of resolution.

  • Gradient Projection-Based Alternating Minimization Algorithm for Designing Hybrid Beamforming in Millimeter-Wave MIMO Systems

    摘要: This study considers the use of alternating minimization (AltMin) framework as the main design principle in determining the optimal weights of hybrid digital and analog beamforming in millimeter-wave massive multiple-input multiple-output systems. However, such framework experiences analog beamformer design problem because analog beamformers are normally constructed using phase shifters (PSs), which result in non-convex constraints, and known solutions suffer from high computational complexity. We address this issue by proposing a simple yet efficient gradient projection (GP)-based AltMin (GP-AltMin) algorithm for hybrid beamforming design problems. In addition, when quantized PSs are adopted, we propose non-uniform PSs on the basis of the Lloyd-Max algorithm for minimizing the performance loss caused by quantization. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed GP-AltMin algorithm not only has lower complexity but can also achieve spectral efficiency, which is comparable with or higher than those of state-of-the-art algorithms that use unquantized and low-resolution PSs.

  • Laser Doppler Vibrometry Measurements of Conversion of Surface Guided Waves to Optical Fiber Modes

    摘要: This paper investigates a multi-pair two-way massive MIMO amplify-and-forward full-duplex relay (FDR) system over Ricean fading channels, where multiple pairs of full-duplex users exchange information within pair through a full-duplex relay with a very large number of antennas (M for transmission and M for reception). First, the zero-forcing reception/zero-forcing transmission and maximum-ratio combining/maximum-ratio transmission processing matrices with imperfect channel state information at the relay are presented. Then, the corresponding asymptotic expressions (in M ) of the end-to-end signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio are derived. Finally, the asymptotic spectral ef?ciency (SE) and energy ef?ciency (EE) at the general power scaling schemes when the number of the relay antennas tends to in?nity is analyzed. Theoretical analyses and simulation results show that, when M → ∞, the effects of channel estimation error, the self-loop of each user as well as the relay, inter-user interferences, the noise at users and the relay can be eliminated, respectively, if the power scaling scheme is properly selected. Besides, the considered multi-pair two-way FDR outperforms the multi-pair two-way half-duplex relaying on SE and EE performances when M is large. Moreover, a low complexity power control scheme is proposed to optimize the SE and we analyze the impact of the number of user pairs on the SE.

    摘要: This paper concerns with a wireless-energy-transfer (WET)-enabled massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system with superimposed pilot (SP)-aided channel estimation. Unlike the conventional WET-enabled frame transmission schemes, with the aid of SP, both the uplink (UL) channel estimation and wireless information transmission (WIT) that powered by the downlink (DL) WET can be operated simultaneously, and thus provide the potential for improving the UL achievable throughput. The impact that the SP has on the performance of such a WET-enabled massive MIMO system is mathematically characterized, and the optimal solution, including the SP power-allocation and the ratio of time-allocation between the duration of UL WIT and DL WET, is derived with regard to maximize the UL achievable throughput. Numerical results demonstrate the proposed SP-aided WET technique yields a superior performance than the conventional pilot-only-based schemes.
