  • Transparent dual-band monopole antenna using a μ-metal mesh on the rear glass of an automobile for frequency modulation/digital media broadcasting service receiving

    摘要: A transparent dual-band monopole (Inverted-F) antenna using a micro-metal mesh film (μ-MMF) designed on the rear glass of an automobile (Hyundai K5) is presented. This design allows the optically transparent antenna to be installed in a wider space, thus overcoming the space limitation typically posed by roof-mounted shark-fin antennas. It can also reasonably solve the problem of low reception sensitivity and radiation interference from antennas operating in other service bands. The antenna is a combination of two simple monopoles operating in the frequency modulation (FM) (88–108 MHz) and the digital media broadcasting (DMB) (174–216 MHz) service bands. Measured reflection coefficients (S11) of the transparent antenna using μ-MMF are under ?6 dB (VSWR 3:1) in both the bands, and the radiation pattern shows directive patterns to the outward direction from the car; the average peak gains in the XY plane are 1.1 dB in the FM service band and 8.8 dB in the DMB service band.

  • Ultraviolet treatment restores bioactivity of titanium mesh plate degraded by contact with medical gloves

    摘要: Titanium mesh plate (Ti mesh) used for bone augmentation inadvertently comes into contact with medical gloves during trimming and bending. We tested the hypotheses that glove contact degrades the biological capability of Ti mesh and that ultraviolet treatment (UV) can restore this capability. Three groups of Ti mesh specimens were prepared: as-received (AR), after glove contact (GC), and after glove contact followed by UV treatment. The AR and GC meshes were hydrophobic, but GC mesh was more hydrophobic. AR and GC meshes had significant amounts of surface carbon, and Si content was higher for GC mesh than for AR mesh. UV mesh was hydrophilic, and carbon and silicon content values were significantly lower in this group than in the AR and GC groups. The number, alkaline phosphatase activity, and mineralization ability of attached osteoblasts were significantly lower in the GC group than in the AR group and markedly higher in the UV group than in the AR group. In conclusion, glove contact caused chemical contamination of Ti mesh, which significantly reduced its bioactivity. UV treatment restored bioactivity in contaminated Ti mesh, which outperformed even the baseline Ti mesh.

  • Impact of Backup Power in Optimizing Deployment Cost of Hybrid Optical Wireless Broadband Access Network (HOWBAN) with Survivability

    摘要: The dependence on broadband to enhance the economy and environment sustainability is imposing immense urgency to provide ubiquitous wireless broadband access which is a key enabler to a greater spread of society. One of the key barriers to the network connectivity and survivability identified is the lack of or unreliable infrastructure. In our previous studies we have identified that the most unreliable component in a hybrid optical wireless broadband access network infrastructure is the power grid in remote areas and least developed countries. In this paper we extend our studies to evaluate the effect of the costs of backup power on sustaining survivability at the front end of two types of network configurations in a hybrid optical wireless broadband access network. The configurations investigated are full survivability and alternative path survivability networks. Our results show that the provision of backup power to all the nodes in a network configuration with one alternative path is able to reduce the cost of deployment compared to that of a full survivability network configuration without significantly affecting the network survivability.

    摘要: Computer vision systems allow digital reconstruction of targets by capturing information through remote sensors such as video cameras and scanners. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the capacity and quality of three-dimensional reconstruction of static targets using the ZED stereoscopic camera. For this goal, we took images of several environments and objects with different surfaces, textures, lighting, distances and acquisition speeds. The results were compared with high-density and high precision point clouds obtained from the targets using a Leica Viva TS15 total station. The data were processed in the CloudCompare software to calculate the displacement between the models generated by the camera and the total station. Under certain circumstances, this technology is able to reconstruct three-dimensional objects and environments with an error of a few centimeters.

  • Boundary Data Analysis of Continuous Wave Domain Diffuse Optical Tomography with Structured Refined Mesh Algorithm for Product Quality Control

    摘要: Diffuse optical tomography is promising technology for non destructive evaluation on product quality control. In order to improve the forward sensitivity, structured refine mesh method was applied on continuous wave domain diffuse optical tomography imaging. This study was conducted on numerical and phantom object. These objects were illuminated by the near infrared source from object’s boundary. To obtain the boundary parameter data, a set of near infrared detector were placed on the periphery of the object. To validate our proposed forward analysis method, boundary parameter data of simulation are shown in comparison with that of experiment. In this study, we vary the position and the value of optical coefficient of defect on the object then we analyze the forward problem sensitivity. The result of this study indicated that continuous wave domain-diffuse optical tomography is promising for product quality control.

  • Improvement of 60 GHz transparent patch antenna array performance through specific double-sided micrometric mesh metal technology

    摘要: This paper presents the performance of optically transparent 4 × 2 microstrip patch antenna arrays operating at 60 GHz and made from double-sided micrometric mesh metal layers. A high level of optical transparency (higher than 80%) over the entire visible light spectrum coupled with a sheet resistance lower than 0.5 Ω/sq of the mesh metal films are achieved. Microwave performance of the transparent antenna arrays has been performed from two different mesh ground plane patterns and compared with those of an opaque antenna array made of double-sided continuous metal films. A gain value equal to 13.6 dBi at 58.0 GHz has been recorded, against 15.6 dBi at 59.7 GHz for the opaque antenna array. The influence of the mesh structure and mesh parameters of the ground plane is investigated and discussed.

    摘要: Wireless backhaul to small cells and remote radio heads is a key enabler for the cost-effective deployment of LTE-advanced and 5G when fibre is too costly. This paper presents a study of a millimetre-wave meshed backhaul deployment using a dynamic system simulator. IEEE 802.11ad technology at 60GHz is assumed. Results demonstrate the viability of the technology over multiple-hops (up to four in the example studied), and show the influence of the number of points of presence (POPs) and the number of radio channels available. The latency of the backhaul is approximately 0.5 ms per hop.

    摘要: This paper presents a new method for obtaining the sensitivity map of a wire-mesh sensor (WMS) based on the Maxwell-Wagner effect. The sensitivity map is crucial for the accuracy of electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) in industrial process monitoring. Traditional methods for sensitivity map calculation are complex and time-consuming. The proposed method simplifies this by using a simulation approach that models the WMS as a two-phase flow sensor. The results show that the new sensitivity map improves the imaging quality and reduces the computational time compared to conventional methods. This method is validated through simulations and experiments, demonstrating its effectiveness for practical applications in multiphase flow measurement.

    摘要: The high performance cold cathode x-ray source was fabricated by using the point-typed CNT field emitter. The cold cathode x-ray source consists of the CNT point emitter, the metal mesh gate electrode, the metal hole focusing lens and the tungsten target anode electrode. To fabricate x-ray source, such components were mounted in a SUS vacuum chamber. The fabricated CNT x-ray source showed a good resolution of x-ray images at a low anode current and at a low anode voltage, and also indicated stable operation. We evaluated x-ray images according to the tube voltage and the tube current, respectively.

  • Experimental Work on the Effect of Saline Water Medium on the Performance of Solar Still with Tracked Parabolic Trough Collector (TPTC)

    摘要: An experimental work is presented to study the effect of the saline water medium on the performance of double acting solar still combined with tracked parabolic trough collector (TPTC). Three saline water mediums are considered in the basin: pure saline water, steel wire mesh, and sand saturated with saline water. The effect of these mediums on the freshwater productivity of modified solar still (solar still with TPTC) and the conventional solar still was studied. The study was carried out during cold climate (winter) and hot climate (summer) times. Additionally, a comparison of the performance of the desalination system at different saline water mediums between winter and summer was conducted. Moreover, a cost analysis of the system was presented. The findings reveal that using wire mesh and sand raises the daily yield freshwater by about 3.1% and 13.7% respectively in winter and about 3.4% and 14.1% respectively in summer for the modified system. Furthermore, using wire mesh and sand with saline water of the modified system enhance the system efficiency by 3.3% and 15.3% respectively in summer and 3.9% and 13.8% respectively in winter. The cost of the accumulated liter of freshwater is reduced by using sand and wire mesh.
