  • Half-metallic ferromagnetic behavior in (Ga, Cr)N and (Ga, Cr, V)N compounds for spintronic technologies: Ab-initio and Monte Carlo methods

    摘要: In this article, we investigate the magnetic- and electronic-proprieties of GaN doped with simple- and double-impurities utilizing Ab-initio and Monte Carlo studies. We have predicted that (Ga, Cr)N and (Ga, Cr, V)N compounds exhibit ferromagnetic- and halfmetallic-behavior with 100% spin-polarization at the Fermi-level. Moreover, we have found that Ga1-xCrxN and Ga1-2xCrxVxN (x = 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06) show a 2nd order ferromagnetic transition and that their Tc is above room temperature. These predictions make (Ga, Cr)N and (Ga, Cr, V)N compounds strong-candidates for spintronic-technologies.

  • Simulation and experimental study of the angle-dependent sensitivity of the thick pinhole used for gamma imaging

    摘要: The angle-dependent sensitivity of rotationally symmetric thick pinholes used for gamma imaging was investigated using a geometric algorithm and Monte Carlo numerical simulations for the thick pinholes with different structural parameters. The effect of the pinhole diameter, the thickness of the straight-hole portion, and the half conical angle were analyzed. The point source was demonstrated to be a feasible replacement for the homogeneous plane source through theoretical deduction, numerical calculations, and experimental measurements of the angle-dependent sensitivity. A small quasi-point source was established based on a 10K curie level 60Co gamma ray source in the experimental measurement of the angle-dependent sensitivity. The image position remained unchanged and image distortion was avoided by rotating the thick pinhole around the pinhole center. The experimental result was in good agreement with the theoretical calculation, indicating the potential of this measurement method.

  • Rays via Single-Shot Laser-Electron Interaction

    摘要: Generation of circularly polarized (CP) and linearly polarized (LP) γ rays via the single-shot interaction of an ultraintense laser pulse with a spin-polarized counterpropagating ultrarelativistic electron beam has been investigated in nonlinear Compton scattering in the quantum radiation-dominated regime. For the process simulation, a Monte Carlo method is developed which employs the electron-spin-resolved probabilities for polarized photon emissions. We show efficient ways for the transfer of the electron polarization to the high-energy photon polarization. In particular, multi-GeV CP (LP) γ rays with polarization of up to about 95% can be generated by a longitudinally (transversely) spin-polarized electron beam, with a photon flux meeting the requirements of recent proposals for the vacuum birefringence measurement in ultrastrong laser fields. Such high-energy, high-brilliance, high-polarization γ rays are also beneficial for other applications in high-energy physics, and laboratory astrophysics.

  • Confidence Distance Matrix for outlier identification: A new method to improve the characterizations of surfaces measured by confocal microscopy

    摘要: This paper proposes a statistical method for outlier identification for surface measurement data obtained by confocal microscopy. The implemented statistical method is Confidence Distance Matrix (CDM) which were widely used in statistics and many engineering areas, such as signal processing, sensor data fusion, information problems, etc. However, no investigations on identifying outliers in measured surface data using CDM have been found. This paper introduces and simplifies the mathematical model of CDM method. Algorithms for identifying random outliers using Monte Carlo method for uncertainty evaluation and for identifying outliers in a unique measured surface are developed and validated. For validation of the algorithms, a synthetic data SG_3-3 provided by National Institute of Standards and Technology and a data of artificial stochastic surface generated by our own algorithms are implemented. The difference of Sq of the data with outliers is 2.3342% and after deletion of outliers is 0.0037% with reference to the certified value. A type C1 spacing standard with dust dropped is measured and processed using CDM. The difference of Sa decreases from 29.65% to 3.52% after processing outliers with reference to the certified value Ra. An iron surface is measured and processed. Surface slopes and curvatures of the data in the two validations and two experiments are compared. All those parameters, the surface reconstructions, histogram of heights, and QQ plot of the measured surface data versus the data after deletion of outliers indicate our proposed method working well.

    摘要: A Monte Carlo procedure is presented for computing the joint state-of-knowledge probability distribution to be assigned to the parameters of a calibration function. The procedure is fully in line with the approach in Supplement 1 to the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. It consists of propagating the joint probability distribution of the calibration quantities through the mathematical model of the measurement by which the parameters are defined. Usually this model is derived from a least-squares adjustment procedure. When the instrument is in use, we desire to obtain the probability distribution for the stimulus that corresponds to an indicated response. This goal can be accomplished by propagating the distributions for the parameters of the calibration curve, together with the distribution of the indicated response.

  • An Automatic Deconvolution Method for Modified Gaussian Model using the Exchange Monte Carlo Method: Application to Reflectance Spectra of Synthetic Clinopyroxene

    摘要: Deconvolution analysis of reflectance spectra has been a useful method to infer mineral composition and crystal structure. Many of the recent deconvolution analyses of reflectance spectra of major rock-forming minerals, such as olivine and pyroxene, have been based on a modified Gaussian Model (MGM). The numerical algorithm of the widely used MGM, however, utilizes the steepest descent method, which has a local minima problem. With inaccurate initial parameters, the steepest descent method converges into a local minimum, thus the analyzer must manually adjust initial parameters and calculate the model repeatedly to obtain the desired solution. In order to avoid the local minimum problem, we utilized Bayesian spectral deconvolution with the exchange Monte Carlo method, which is an improved algorithm of the Markov chain Monte Carlo method, aimed to both avoid local minima traps and remove the arbitrariness originated from initial parameters. We applied the model to visible to near infrared reflectance spectra of 31 synthetic clinopyroxene samples with wide ranging Mg, Fe and Ca compositions (solid solution). We obtained results consistent with the previous studies based on conventional MGM analyses, suggesting that the exchange Monte Carlo method can yield results consistent with the conventional MGM analyses purely based on the observed data. We also find that the center wavelengths of 1 μm absorption bands of high-Ca pyroxene samples have a linear dependence on Fe/Mg component. Both 1 μm and 2 μm absorption bands seem to follow approximation lines in the three-dimensional spaces of center wavelengths, Ca and Fe components. The successful application of the exchange Monte Carlo method to a wide range of clinopyroxenes would have a potential to expand the applicability of MGM to a variety of space/ground-based observations, especially when we cannot rely on prior information of the mineralogy.

  • Spin-polarization effects of an ultrarelativistic electron beam in an ultraintense two-color laser pulse

    摘要: Spin-polarization effects of an ultrarelativistic electron beam head-on colliding with an ultraintense two-color laser pulse are investigated comprehensively in the quantum radiation-dominated regime. We employ a Monte Carlo method, derived from the recent work of Li et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 154801 (2019)], to calculate the spin-resolved electron dynamics and photon emissions in the local constant field approximation. We find that electron radiation probabilities in adjacent half cycles of a two-color laser field are substantially asymmetric due to the asymmetric field strengths and, consequently, after interaction the electron beam can obtain a total polarization of about 11% and a partial polarization of up to about 63% because of radiative spin effects, with currently achievable laser facilities, which may be utilized in high-energy physics and nuclear physics. Moreover, the considered effects are shown to be crucially determined by the relative phase of the two-color laser field and robust with respect to other laser and electron-beam parameters.

Moreover, compared to the common method used by calibration laboratories that assuming the mismatch factor as 1, MCM will greatly reduce the uncertainty introduced by mismatch.

  • Light propagation in biological tissue

    摘要: We developed a new parallel computational method for solving fluorescence and elastically scattered light propagation through a biological tissue illuminated by a collimated incident beam. The three-dimensional steady state radiative transfer equation was solved using a Modified Finite Volume Method with a cell-vertex formulation. An Exponential spatial differencing scheme was used to efficiently lessen the false scattering. Several test problems are presented to assess the performance and accuracy of the numerical Method. We show that it is possible to obtain a very good level of accuracy. Relative differences less than 1.5% were obtained in comparison with the Monte Carlo reference solution for the selected problems. This study shows the potential of the proposed computational method to be used as an accurate deterministic forward solver in Optical Tomography.
