    摘要: A novel decoupling structure composed of an I-shaped microstrip line and an X-shaped slot etched from the ground plane is proposed and applied to decouple the conventional antenna array at 5.25GHz, whose typical edge-to-edge distance is 10mm (0.175λ0). Results indicate that the structure has superior decoupling capability, achieving a maximum 34.2dB reduction of mutual coupling. With wider impedance bandwidth, high isolation and improved gain, the structure is potential in the application of multi-element array and communication system.

  • Characteristic Mode Analysis and Design of Wide Band MIMO Antenna Consisting of Metamaterial Unit Cell

    摘要: This paper presents a full wave simulation and characteristic mode-based design of a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna at 5.8 GHz for wireless local area network applications. The driven analysis comprises two antennas that are placed orthogonal to each other. A metamaterial unit structure in the form of a rectangular loop resonator is placed around the antenna element to reduce the electromagnetic interference and to increase the isolation between the two monopoles. A characteristic mode technique is employed to find out the dominant mode of the proposed antenna without a feeding port. It was revealed that mode 1 was the dominant mode among the three modes used. The MIMO antenna is constructed and measured using a vector network analyzer. A good isolation of less than 25 dB was attained with a wide impedance bandwidth of 65.5%.

  • An Orbital Angular Momentum-Based Array for In-Band Full-Duplex Communications

    摘要: A uniform circular array (UCA) with dual orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes is proposed for in-band full-duplex applications. The proposed scheme includes two concentric ring subarrays for transmitting and receiving, respectively, where all elements are operated under the same linear polarization. To suppress the self-interference resulting from the mutual coupling, an OAM mode-selection method related to the proposed configuration is discussed. Results indicate that good isolation performance between the transmitter and receiver can be achieved by using the proposed scheme. To validate the performance, a demonstrator with OAM modes of -1 and -2 at Ku-band is developed, fabricated, and measured. Measurements show a relative bandwidth of 21.3% from 13.5 to 16.7 GHz, referring to a 40-dB suppression level, is achieved and the desired radiations are found.

    摘要: A simple and practical technique for reducing the mutual coupling between neighbouring antennas is presented for application in densely packed antenna arrays. This is achieved by locating between the radiation elements a smaller patch with metamaterial decoupling structure (MTM-DS). In this case the radiating elements are circular patches and the MTM-DS is constructed from a hexagonal slit resonator. The consequence of implementing the MTM-DS patch is significant reduction in mutual coupling between adjacent radiating patches by 60%, improvement in impedance match by 200% and substantial increase in the antenna’s fractional bandwidth by 369%. Since the ground plane is unaltered the front-to-back ratio is unaffected too. The proposed technique is easily realizable and can be used effectively in beam scanning applications.

  • The Novel W Parasitic Strip for the Circularly Polarized Microstrip Antennas Design and the Mutual Coupling Reduction between Them

    摘要: This paper presents a novel W shaped parasitic strip to design the circularly-polarized (CP) simultaneous transmit and receive (STAR) antennas and reduce the mutual coupling (MC) between them. By disturbing the current fields and inducing the current distribution on the antenna patches, the CP radiation and MC reduction are achieved. The designed CP antennas have 30 MHz 10-dB impedance bandwidth, 16 MHz 3-dB AR bandwidth and approximate 5.08 dBic peak CP gain. This technique also reduce the MC from ?7 dB to ?50 dB when the antennas are placed with a 0.18 λ0 center-to-center distance and a 0.033 λ0 edge-to-edge distance, where λ0 is the free-space wavelength. When achieving the MC reduction, the antenna radiation pattern restores to that of the isolated antenna. Furthermore, the antenna CP gain and efficiency is improved comparing those of the antenna without the parasitic strip or the classic corner cut CP antenna.

    摘要: In practical mobile communication engineering applications, surfaces of antenna array deployment regions are usually uneven. Therefore, massive multi-input–multi-output (MIMO) communication systems usually transmit wireless signals by irregular antenna arrays. To evaluate the performance of irregular antenna arrays, the matrix correlation coefficient and the ergodic received gain are defined for massive MIMO communication systems with mutual coupling effects. Furthermore, the lower bound of the ergodic achievable rate, symbol error rate, and average outage probability is first derived for multi-user massive MIMO communication systems using irregular antenna arrays. Asymptotic results are also derived when the number of antennae approaches infinity. Numerical results indicate that there exists a maximum achievable rate when the number of antennae keeps increasing in massive MIMO communication systems using irregular antenna arrays. Moreover, the irregular antenna array outperforms the regular antenna array in the achievable rate of massive MIMO communication systems when the number of antennae is larger than or equal to a given threshold.

    摘要: Mutual coupling between two dipole antennas with different dimensions placed at arbitrary parallel positions is analyzed using simultaneous integral equations with exact kernels and finite gap feeds. The Nystr?m method is applied to solve these equations. Self- and mutual-impedances are calculated and compared with the results of the induced electromotive force (EMF) method and Tai’s method. The feed structure is accurately modeled, and S-parameters are calculated based on the model. The S-parameters are measured, and the results are compared with the calculated values. They show good agreement, and the validity of this method is verified.

    摘要: For the first time, a triple-band near-field wireless power transfer (WPT) system is presented using coupled triple-band defected ground structure (DGS) bandstop filters (BSF). A triple-band DGS-BSF is possible through creating a frequency dependent effective lower inductance at higher frequencies. When we couple two triple-band DGS-BSFs in a back-to-back configuration, a triple-band DGS-WPT system is created. We verify the proposed DGS-WPT system through good agreements between electromagnetic simulations and measurements. The measured WPT efficiencies are 68%, 60%, and 65% at 100.8 MHz, 140.7 MHz, and 182.2 MHz, respectively at a WPT separation distance of 30 mm. Each of the WPT transmitter and receiver has a size of 50 × 50 mm2.

  • A Comparison between Off and On-Chip Injection Locking in a Photonic Integrated Circuit

    摘要: The mutual and injection locking characteristics of two integrated lasers are compared, both on and off-chip. In this study, two integrated single facet slotted Fabry–Pérot lasers are utilised to develop the measurement technique used to examine the different operational regimes arising from optically locking a semiconductor diode laser. The technique employed used an optical spectrum analyser (OSA), an electrical spectrum analyser (ESA) and a high speed oscilloscope (HSO). The wavelengths of the lasers are measured on the OSA and the selected optical mode for locking is identi?ed. The region of injection locking and various other regions of dynamical behaviour between the lasers are observed on the ESA. The time trace information of the system is obtained from the HSO and performing the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) of the time traces returns the power spectra. Using these tools, the similarities and differences between off-chip injection locking with an isolator, and on-chip mutual locking are examined.
