  • Excitonically Coupled Cyclic BF2 Arrays of Calix[8]a?? and Calix[16]phyrin as Neara??IRa?? Chromophores

    摘要: A pair of giant calix[n]phyrin derivatives namely calix[8]- (4) and calix[16]phyrin (5), involving two and four BF2 units, respectively, were prepared via the condensation of bis-naphthobipyrrolylmethene-BF2 complex with pentafluorobenzaldehyde. Both systems and precursor 3 were fully characterized, including via single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Calix[n]phyrins 4 and 5 display extremely high extinction coefficients (3.67 and 4.82 105 M-1cm-1, respectively) in the near-IR region. This observation was taken as initial evidence for strong excitonic coupling within these cyclic multi-chromophoric systems. Detailed insights into the effect of excitonic coupling dynamics on the electronic structure and photophysical properties of the macrocycles came from fluorescence, time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) and transient absorption (TA) measurements. Support for the experimental findings came from theoretical studies. Taken in concert this combination of theory and experiment served to confirm that the coupling between the excitons depends on the specifics of the calix[n]phyrin structure, not just its size.

  • Biologically Responsive Plasmonic Assemblies for Second Near-Infrared Window Photoacoustic Imaging-Guided Concurrent Chem-Immunotherapy

    摘要: We developed dual biologically responsive nanogapped gold nanoparticle vesicles loaded with immune inhibitor and carried with anticancer polymeric prodrug for synergistic concurrent chemo-immunotherapy against primary and metastatic tumors, along with guided cargo release by photoacoustic (PA) imaging in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window. The responsive vesicle was prepared by self-assembly of nanogapped gold nanoparticles (AuNNPs) grafted with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and dual pH/GSH-responsive polyprodrug poly(SN38-co-4-vinyl pyridine) (termed as AuNNP@PEG/PSN38VP), showing intense PA signal in the NIR-II window. The effect of the rigidity of hydrophobic polymer PSN38VP on the assembly structures and the formation mechanism of AuNNP@SN38 Ve were elucidated by computational simulations. The immune inhibitor BLZ-945 was encapsulated into the vesicles, resulting in pH-responsive release of BLZ-945 for targeted immunotherapy, followed by the dissociation of the vesicles into single AuNNP@PEG/PSN38VP. The hydrophilic AuNNP@PEG/PSN38VP nanoparticles could penetrate deep into the tumor tissues, and release the anticancer drug SN38 under the reductive environment. PA signal in the NIR-II window in the deep tumor region was obtained. The BLZ-945 loaded vesicle enabled enhanced PA imaging-guided concurrent chemo-immunotherapy efficacy, inhibiting the growth of both primary tumors and metastatic tumors.

  • Visible light communication with efficient far-red/near-infrared polymer light-emitting diodes

    摘要: Visible light communication (VLC) is a wireless technology that relies on optical intensity modulation and is potentially a game changer for internet-of-things (IoT) connectivity. However, VLC is hindered by the low penetration depth of visible light in non-transparent media. One solution is to extend operation into the “nearly (in)visible” near-infrared (NIR, 700–1000 nm) region, thus also enabling VLC in photonic bio-applications, considering the biological tissue NIR semitransparency, while conveniently retaining vestigial red emission to help check the link operativity by simple eye inspection. Here, we report new far-red/NIR organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a 650–800 nm emission range and external quantum efficiencies among the highest reported in this spectral range (>2.7%, with maximum radiance and luminance of 3.5 mW/cm2 and 260 cd/m2, respectively). With these OLEDs, we then demonstrate a “real-time” VLC setup achieving a data rate of 2.2 Mb/s, which satisfies the requirements for IoT and biosensing applications. These are the highest rates ever reported for an online unequalised VLC link based on solution-processed OLEDs.

  • Critical Review—Recent Progress in NIR Fluorophores Emitting over 1000 nm for Bioimaging

    摘要: During the last five years, significant advances have been made in the synthesis of near-infrared (NIR) fluorophores emitting over 1000 nm for non-invasive deep-tissue imaging. Nano-materials such as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), following Ag2S and PbS quantum dots (QDs) have been employed as the first-generation NIR fluorescent probes, by which superior capabilities of NIR fluorescence imaging at the wavelengths of 1000–1400 nm (second NIR window) have been demonstrated. Recently, from the viewpoint of biomedical applications, organic-dye based NIR fluorophores emitting beyond 1000 nm have been synthesized. In this short review, we focus on recent advances in nanomaterial and organic-dye based NIR fluorophores for intravital deep bioimaging in the second NIR window.

  • Evaluation of Machine Learning Approaches to Predict Soil Organic Matter and pH Using vis-NIR Spectra

    摘要: Soil organic matter (SOM) and pH are essential soil fertility indictors of paddy soil in the middle-lower Yangtze Plain. Rapid, non-destructive and accurate determination of SOM and pH is vital to preventing soil degradation caused by inappropriate land management practices. Visible-near infrared (vis-NIR) spectroscopy with multivariate calibration can be used to effectively estimate soil properties. In this study, 523 soil samples were collected from paddy ?elds in the Yangtze Plain, China. Four machine learning approaches—partial least squares regression (PLSR), least squares-support vector machines (LS-SVM), extreme learning machines (ELM) and the Cubist regression model (Cubist)—were used to compare the prediction accuracy based on vis-NIR full bands and bands reduced using the genetic algorithm (GA). The coef?cient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), and ratio of performance to inter-quartile distance (RPIQ) were used to assess the prediction accuracy. The ELM with GA reduced bands was the best model for SOM (SOM: R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 5.17, RPIQ = 2.87) and pH (R2 = 0.76, RMSE = 0.43, RPIQ = 2.15). The performance of the LS-SVM for pH prediction did not differ signi?cantly between the model with GA (R2 = 0.75, RMSE = 0.44, RPIQ = 2.08) and without GA (R2 = 0.74, RMSE = 0.45, RPIQ = 2.07). Although a slight increase was observed when ELM were used for prediction of SOM and pH using reduced bands (SOM: R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 5.17, RPIQ = 2.87; pH: R2 = 0.76, RMSE = 0.43, RPIQ = 2.15) compared with full bands (R2 = 0.81, RMSE = 5.18, RPIQ = 2.83; pH: R2 = 0.76, RMSE = 0.45, RPIQ = 2.07), the number of wavelengths was greatly reduced (SOM: 201 to 44; pH: 201 to 32). Thus, the ELM coupled with reduced bands by GA is recommended for prediction of properties of paddy soil (SOM and pH) in the middle-lower Yangtze Plain.

  • NIR organic dyes based on phenazine-cyanine for photoacoustic imaging-guided photothermal therapy

    摘要: As non-invasive diagnosis and therapy methods, photoacoustic (PA) imaging and photothermal therapy (PTT) have attracted extensive attention. Herein, two new acceptor–donor–acceptor near-infrared organic phenazine-cyanine dyes PH-1 and PH-2 were reported for photoacoustic imaging-guided photodynamic therapy. In the strong donor phenazine molecule, the electron-withdrawing indole salt unit was introduced for absorption to the near-infrared region. To improve water solubility, the two organic dyes were assembled with human serum albumin (HSA) to form nanoparticles of appropriate sizes, i.e., PH-1@HSA and PH-2@HSA, which showed excellent stability in both weakly acidic and weakly basic environments. Moreover, the results showed that PH-1@HSA and PH-2@HSA nanoparticles can effectively transform luminous energy to thermal energy in vitro and in vivo, and they can be utilized for PA imaging. Importantly, PH-1@HSA can accumulate in mice subcutaneous tumors by enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) and damage cancer tissues effectively.

    摘要: The location of the veins of every person is different, some are visible with the naked eye and some are invisible. This is due to the location of the veins deep below the skin, usually due to excessive fat covered. Many papers that have the topic to solve this difficulty mostly perform only image processing without back-projection. In this paper, we propose a method for improving vein image enhancement using high boost filter and preliminary study about back projection by using the intersection between camera view and projector view. Vein data acquired by NIR reflection method. The obtained vein image enhanced by using a high-boost filter. To deal with the post-segmentation noise, we use a combination of morphology and contour area. Based on these combinations, the accuracy of vein detection is 84.62%. The result of the preliminary study about back-projection is already able to project the vein image and the future work is focused on adjusting the projection in term of distance change between device and object.

    摘要: Multi-spectral image acquisition brings numerous potential benefits in computer vision and image processing applications. Single-sensor acquisition helps to overcome problems with misalignments occurring in multiple-sensor acquisition. However, the single-sensor approach poses the problem of interpolation of missing values. In this paper we propose an adapted version of a residual U-Net, with application in demosaicing. The experiments show that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art results, and has good generalization capabilities to different color filter array patterns.
