  • Effect of NiO NPs doping on the structure and optical properties of PVC polymer films

    摘要: The goal of this study was to investigate the structure and optical properties of the prepared PVC/NiO nanocomposites. The samples were characterized via XRD, TEM, SEM, and UV–Vis spectrophotometer experimental measurements. The partial crystal structure of PVC/NiO nanocomposites and cubic structure of NiO nanoparticles were explored by X-ray diffraction. SEM exhibited the good distribution of the nanoparticles in PVC films. Linear optical parameters: refractive index and normalized absorption, increased whenever transmission and reflection reduced by adding NiO nanoparticles. Direct and indirect optical band gaps were obtained from Tauc’s formula, and it was found that both direct and indirect optical band gaps decrease as more NiO nanoparticles added. The direct optical band gap decreases from 5.20 to 5.15 eV. The optical conductivity increased by increasing the content of NiO nanoparticles. The dispersion parameters: oscillator energy E0, dispersion energy Ed, and static refractive index, were calculated by using Wemple and DiDominco model. The nonlinear optical susceptibility x(3) and nonlinear refractive index n2 were evaluated from the linear optical parameters using semiempirical relation. The increasing in nonlinear parameters x(3) and n2 suggest the use of PVC/NiO nanocomposites for nonlinear optical applications.

  • Tunable thermo-piezo-plasmonic effect on core/shell nanoparticles under laser irradiation and external electric field

    摘要: This work is focused on the characterization of the opto-heating generation in thermo-piezo-plasmonic solutions of gold-PbZrTiO3 (PZT) core/shell nanoparticles. Core/shell nanoparticles have been prepared by the laser ablation in liquid method. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of proposed nanoparticles were studied by optical spectroscopy and the Z-scan technique under external voltage to investigate the piezo-photonic effect. Furthermore, the linear optical properties of these nanostructures were calculated vie dipole approximation method with different core size and different shell thickness of samples immersed in water and poly-vinyl-pyrrolidone. In addition, thermo-plasmonic effects of samples are investigated theoretically and experimentally by the finite element method of COMSOL multiphysics V5.4 and infrared camera under laser irradiation and external electric field. The results revealed a clear tunable and adjustable linear and nonlinear behavior and thermo-piezo-plasmonic properties under external effects. The temperature elevation is ranging of ?T = 3.7–14.1 °C under different external effects. Accordingly, these results encourage to uses proposed samples for the cancer treatment and the different biomedical applications.

  • Nonlinear Optics || The Intensity-Dependent Refractive Index

    摘要: The refractive index of many optical materials depends on the intensity of the light used to measure the refractive index. In this chapter, we examine some of the mathematical descriptions of the nonlinear refractive index and examine some of the physical processes that give rise to this effect. In the following chapter, we study the origin of optical nonlinearities in molecular systems, in Chapter 6 we study the intensity-dependent refractive index resulting from the resonance response of an atomic system, and in Chapter 7 we study some physical processes that result from the nonlinear refractive index.

  • Photoluminescence characterizations and nonlinear optical of PM-355 nuclear track detector film by alpha-particles and laser irradiation

    摘要: The imaging processing technique was used for studying a laser beam nature that transmitted through films of PM-355. The thermal nonlinearity of PM-355 films was studied using a 635 nm cw diode laser at 15 mW as the source of excitation. Third order nonlinear optical properties of PM-355 films irradiated with α-particles at different times and pristine sample has been studied using Z-scan technique. The samples showed a negative and large nonlinear refractive index and reverse saturable absorption (RSA) with high values of the nonlinear absorption coefficient. The fluorescence spectra of PM-355 films were investigated at room temperature and wavelength range of 250-500 nm for a pristine film and in different times of exposure to α-particles. The broad peaks were between 350, 420 and 465 nm. All-optical switching property of PM-355 samples irradiated with α-particles at 20 minutes was also studied using the standard pump-probe technique.

  • Wavelength and pump-power dependent nonlinear refraction and absorption in a semiconductor disk laser

    摘要: We characterize both nonlinear refraction and absorption in a vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL) as a function of pump irradiance over the whole range of lasing wavelengths. We observe an approximately linear decrease in magnitude for both nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption with optical pumping when the thermally induced shift of the lasing wavelength is considered. Our results are of particular significance for understanding self-modelocking of VECSELs which might be driven by nonlinear lensing.

  • Third-order nonlinear optical response of Yb:YAG ceramics under femtosecond laser irradiation

    摘要: Transparent ceramic laser materials, as an important alternate of traditional laser gain medium materials, have aroused much attention for their excellent performance. Here, we investigated the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of high quality transparent Ytterbium-doped Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Yb:YAG) ceramics. Under an ultrafast femtosecond laser irradiation, we experimentally demonstrated the nonlinear optical limiting and self-focusing behaviors of Yb:YAG ceramic by Z-scan method at 800 nm. It was found that Yb:YAG ceramics exhibit a relatively small nonlinear refractive index (~3.8 × 10?20 m2/W) which exerts little dependence on the Yb3+ doping concentration and laser intensity. This work could illustrate the application potential of transparent ceramic under high-power condition and can also provide useful design guidelines for high power ceramic laser system.

  • Investigating the nonlinear optical properties of poly eosin-Y phthalate solution under irradiation with low power visible CW laser light

    摘要: In this work, the study of the nonlinear optical properties of poly eosin-Y phthalate solution using the diffraction ring patterns and the Z-scan methods are presented. The diffraction ring patterns were observed when a low power laser beam of wavelength of 473 nm passed through the poly eosin-Y phthalate solution. It was found that the number of rings and diameter of the outer-most ring in each pattern depends on the incident intensity of the laser beam and type of the beam wave front. The Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction integral theory was used to simulate the diffraction ring patterns and found good agreement with experimental results. Both diffraction ring patterns and closed aperture Z-scan techniques were used to calculate the nonlinear refractive index, while open aperture Z-scan was used to calculate the nonlinear absorption coefficient of the poly eosin-Y phthalate solution. The possibility of using the sample as an optical limiter is tested.

  • The third-order nonlinear optical properties of gold nanoparticles-methylene blue conjugation

    摘要: Third-order nonlinear properties of a thiazine dye (methylene blue (MB)) and a plasmonic nanoparticle (gold nanoparticles (GNPs)) have been studied by Z-scan method with a 50 mW continues wave (CW) diode pumped solid state laser (DPSSL) operating at 532 nm. The nonlinear parameters (nonlinear refractive (NLR) index (n2) and nonlinear absorption (NLA) coefficient (β)) are determined. The mechanism of the observed NLA and nonlinear refraction is attributed respectively to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) and thermal nonlinear effects. The magnitude of the measured NLR index (n2) and NLA coefficient (β) are founded to be the order of 10?8 cm2/W and 10?4 cm/W respectively. The effect of MB and GNPs on each other has been studied. Z-scan experiments for GNPs-MB conjugation shows noticeable increase in nonlinear parameters.
