Reusable fiber taper sensor based on the metastability of gold nanoparticles
摘要: This work presents the design and implementation of a reusable-tapered optical fiber sensor (RFS). We used the RFS together with a white light source to analyze the metastability of gold nanoparticles. With the RFS we observed that reaction limited aggregation occurred when modifying the concentration of metastable gold nanoparticles (MAuNPs). This was detected by a red-shift and a broadening of the absorption band. The transition from a metastable to a stable state, regardless of the concentration of the MAuNPs, was achieved by the addition of glucose. The changes in the refractive index of the solution due to the presence of glucose and the stability of the MAuNPs were successfully detected by the RFS. Diffusion limited aggregation of the MAuNPs was rapidly triggered after the addition of insulin. Finally, to gain a better understanding of our results we used Raman spectroscopy together with a hollow core photonic crystal optical fiber (HC-PCF) and studied the chemical interactions between the MAuNPs and glucose and between the MAuNPs and insulin.

Chirped soliton solutions in optical medium
摘要: In this paper, we study a nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with quintic nonlinearity, self-steepening and self-frequency shift terms describing the polarization mode in an optical fiber. As results, several new chirped soliton solutions not yet reported in the literature are obtained. These solutions are found without using computer codes. The solutions are bright, dark and cnoidal solitons. The method used here is very effective and simple and can be applied to other types of nonlinear equations.

A MEMS Accelerometer Based on Wavelength Modulation Using an Integrated Blazed Grating
摘要: This paper reports a MEMS optical fiber accelerometer with an integrated blazed grating as wavelength modulation component. The accelerometer includes a V-shape cantilever beam, a vertically symmetrical proof mass and an integrated blazed grating. The accelerometer prototype is fabricated with bulk micromachining processes and is tested. The bandwidth of the accelerometer is 200Hz. The optical sensitivity and nonlinearity of the measure range ±5.2g is 1.63nm/g @100Hz and 0.06% respectively. The x-axis and y-axis cross-axis sensitivities are 2% and 4.5% respectively. In the full temperature range of -20?C to 200 ?C, the temperature sensitivity is 2.8pm/ ?C. Thanks to the mentioned characteristics, the proposed MEMS accelerometer could have a wide range of applications, such as rail traffic and attitude heading sensing applications.

Fabrication and characterization of single-step optical microfiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer refractive index sensors
摘要: In this study, exploiting a new single-step process, in-line Mach-Zehnder interferometers (M-MZIs) on microfibers of different diameters are fabricated and their refractive-index (RI) sensitivities and temperature stabilities are characterized. The M-MZI comprises a microfiber with two functionalizing miniature down-tapers inscribed along its longitudinal direction. It is fabricated exploiting a selectively modulated arc-discharge assisted fiber heating and pulling one-step process. In this new technique, inserted short time OFF-switches in the heating arc signal, while the fiber ends are pulled, induce additional micro-tapers on the thinned fiber is being fabricated. The resultant one-step M-MZIs show extremely high interference visibilities up to ~34 dB and high RI sensitivities up to 2271.3 nm/RI-unit around RI = 1.368. The results show that, with reducing the diameter of the structures, in addition to the higher RI sensitivity, very low temperature coefficient (~5.2 pm/°C for 8 μm sample) will be achieved. These M-MZIs have high stability, flexibility, reproducibility and low fabrication cost.

Performance comparison of combining algorithms for polarization-diversity receiving in phase-sensitive OTDR
摘要: We investigate three different combining algorithms for polarization-diversity receiving in phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (φ-OTDR) system. The algorithms are equal gain combining(EGC), selective combining(SC) and max-ratio combining(MRC). We compare the performance of the three combining algorithms in three aspects, which are the SNR of the locating signal, the SNR of the recovered vibration signal and the computation cost of the algorithms. The results show that the SC algorithm has a poor locating performance and is unsuitable for locating of the system. The EGC algorithm has the lowest complexity and general locating performance, which can be applied in real-time locating of external vibration. The performance of MRC algorithm is optimal, which is a promising tool in the high SNR intrusion location system. The proper combining algorithms we chosen will contribute to achieving optimal performance and optimal resource allocation of the φ-OTDR system.

Full-scale monitoring system for structural prestress loss based on distributed brillouin sensing technique
摘要: Prestress loss is critical to impact the safety of prestressed structures. Unfortunately, up to date, there are no qualified techniques to handle this issue due to the fact that it is too hard for sensors to survive the harsh construction environments and the time-dependent service life of the large-span prestressed structures. This paper proposes a novel technique to monitor prestress loss in prestressed beams using Brillouin optical fiber sensors. A novel smart steel strand based on the sensing technique of full-scale Brillouin optical fiber sensors was introduced. Two kinds of prestressed structure were used to verify the concept of monitoring prestress loss using smart steel strands. The prestress loss data have been taken by Brillouin optical fiber sensors. And the monitoring results agree well with those from the conventional sensors. The monitoring data can reveal both the full-scale distribution and the time history of prestress loss during the construction stage and also in-service phrase.

Nonlinearity-free Coherent Transmission in Hollow-Core Antiresonant Fiber
摘要: We demonstrate the first multi-terabit/s WDM data transmission through hollow-core antiresonant fiber (HC-ARF). 16 channels of 32-GBd dual-polarization (DP) Nyquist-shaped 256QAM signal channels were transmitted through a 270-m long fiber without observing any power penalty. In a single-channel high power transmission experiment, no nonlinearity penalty was observed for up to 1 W of received power, despite the very low chromatic dispersion of the fiber (<2 ps/nm/km). Our simulations show that such a low level of nonlinearity should enable transmission at 6.4 Tb/s over 1200 km of HC-ARF, even when the fiber attenuation is significantly greater than that of SMF-28. As signals propagate through hollow-core fibers at close to the speed of light in vacuum such a link would be of interest in latency-sensitive data transmission applications.

400-Gb/s Single-Photodiode Polarization-Agnostic Kramers-Kronig Reception of Distributedly Aggregated Superchannel
摘要: In its most simple implementation, the Kramers-Kronig (KK) scheme allows the reception of complex modulation formats with a single photodiode. Thereby, in analogy to a heterodyne receiver, an additional continuous wave signal is used which allows under certain conditions the distortion-free reconstruction of the data signal. We present experimental investigations on a novel Kramers-Kronig scheme based on inherently carrier generation at the receiver. We use a distributed superchannel aggregation scheme to demonstrate ultra-wideband single-photodiode reception of a 3×33-GBd single-polarization 32QAM superchannel with this scheme. The impact of polarization rotations is discussed, and we show that variations in data or Kramers-Kronig carrier polarization will only affect the carrier-to-signal power ratio (CSPR), leading to an increase or decrease from the optimum CSPR by about 6 dB. 400-Gb/s net capacity is demonstrated for optimized conditions. In addition, we demonstrate transmission measurements over a 60-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) link with a 344-Gb/s net rate superchannel (3×28 GBd sub-carriers) with the novel Kramers-Kronig scheme.

Study of single mode tapered fiber-optic interferometer of different waist diameters and its application as a temperature sensor
摘要: We have proposed a study on single-mode tapered optical fiber for temperature sensing application. A theoretical analysis and its experimental validation were carried out to study the taper profile for highly sensitive temperature sensor. Experiments were performed to observe a wavelength shift of transmission spectra with different taper profiles. The effects of taper profiles on the sensitivity of the sensor were also investigated. Our results indicate that the tapered fiber-based temperature sensor has sensitivity in the range of 0.01143 to 0.03406 nm/?C. The findings also demonstrate that the sensor sensitivity can be adjusted with variation to the taper profile.

摘要: A method of the determination of the fiber-optic communication lines reliability taking into account the effect of the optical fiber tension, the temperature influence and the built-in diagnostic equipment errors is discussed in this article. The reliability is assessed using the theory of Markov chains and probabilistic mathematical modeling. The reliability is assessed in terms of the availability factor. According to the permissible value of the availability factor, it is possible to determine the fiber-optic limiting communication lines.
