dSPACE Controller Based Enhanced Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting System Using PI-Lightning Search Algorithm
摘要: This paper presents a new lightning search algorithm (LSA) to enhance the piezoelectric energy harvesting system converter (PEHSC) using the dSPACE DS1104 controller board as the proportional-integral voltage controller (PIVC). To extract the energy from the vibration is challenging and difficult due to the uncertain behavior of vibration. Since the piezoelectric vibration transducer generates low AC voltage output with fluctuations and harmonics, it is difficult to control this low-level signal of various magnitudes. Therefore, the behavior of the converter is governed by its controller. The traditional PIVC process for improved parameter values of proportional gain (Kp) and integral gain (Ki) is commonly implemented via trial and error, which does not lead to an acceptable response in several conditions. Hence, this paper offers a method for finding the optimal Kp and Ki values for PIVC that eliminates the time-consuming conventional trial-and-error process. This method is applied to PEHSC development by producing values of Kp and Ki performed in the PIVC depending on the estimated outcomes of the objective function defined via LSA. The mean absolute error (MAE) is used as the objective function for reducing the output error of the PEHSC. The LSA optimizes the Kp and Ki values that give the minimum MAE, and the effect on the PEHSC is in terms of the rising and settling times. The development process and efficiency of the PIVC are demonstrated and examined via simulations using the MATLAB tools. The LSA-based PIVC (LSA-PI) is compared with the particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based PIVC (PSO-PI) and the backtracking search algorithm (BSA)-based PIVC (BSA-PI). The performance of the LSA-PI-based PIVC is then validated through hardware implementation using the dSPACE DS1104 control board. The simulation results are compared with the hardware results of PEHSC to validate the overall efficiency of the system. Finally, the results are regulated at an output of 7 V DC from an input range of 150 mV~250 mV AC at 30 Hz through a closed-loop using the LSA-PIVC.

Partially Asynchronous Distributed Unmixing of Hyperspectral Images
摘要: So far, the problem of unmixing large or multitemporal hyperspectral data sets has been specifically addressed in the remote sensing literature only by a few dedicated strategies. Among them, some attempts have been made within a distributed estimation framework, in particular, relying on the alternating direction method of multipliers. In this paper, we propose to study the interest of a partially asynchronous distributed unmixing procedure based on a recently proposed asynchronous algorithm. Under standard assumptions, the proposed algorithm inherits its convergence properties from recent contributions in nonconvex optimization, while allowing the problem of interest to be efficiently addressed. Comparisons with a distributed synchronous counterpart of the proposed unmixing procedure allow its interest to be assessed on synthetic and real data. Besides, thanks to its genericity and flexibility, the procedure investigated in this paper can be implemented to address various matrix factorization problems.

摘要: In rural areas, provision of drinking water is one of the most important requirements of living conditions, and most of these isolated areas are not connected to the electricity grid. Conventional technology solutions provided by diesel generators are costly because of high maintenance and fuel supply costs and have drawbacks related to noise and especially greenhouse gas emissions. New technological solutions provided by solar and wind water pumping systems are experiencing high growth rates in recent years. Because of their high initial capital cost, many studies on their optimal sizing have been carried out. In this paper, an optimal sizing model based on Loss of Power Supply Probability (LPSP) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is proposed. The main goal is to deal with the optimal sizing problem of hybrid PV-Wind-based water pumping system taking into account the techno-economic aspects. The developed method uses the PSO algorithm to find the optimal configuration of the studied hybrid system insuring minimum cost and satisfying a desired loss of power supply probability. A computing code is developed and a flexible graphical interface is designed.

Multiple Access With Polarity Division Sparse Code for Visible Light Communication
摘要: The increasing demand of mobile internet and Internet of Things poses challenging requirements for indoor wireless communication. Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology to alleviate the growing traffic problem. In addition, nonlinear distortion of light emitting diodes (LEDs) results in a poor link quality. In this paper, we propose multiple access with polarity division sparse code (PDSC) for VLC, which is based on nonorthogonal multiple access and spatial characteristic of LEDs. The experimental results indicate that the PDSC significantly enhances capacity and spectral efficiency of VLC network compared with orthogonal frequency division multiple access. We also demonstrate that the PDSC can optimize the problem of nonlinear distortion with polarity division. The experimental results reveal that PDSC is a promising multiple access scheme for the indoor VLC networks.

Scaling Procedures and Post-Optimization for the Design of High-Efficiency Klystrons
摘要: A semianalytical parametric scaling procedure (PSP) for klystron design has been developed. The PSP allows existing klystron designs to be scaled to different operating frequencies, beam power, and perveance, while maintaining the electron bunching and deceleration processes. For the fixed layout of a klystron RF circuit, the PSP provides parameters of the scaled klystron which are nearly optimal. The theoretical background and step by step derivation of the scaling principles are presented. The effectiveness of the PSP is shown through a generic five-cavity L-band klystron.

A Complete System Modelling of Piezoelectric Energy Harvester (PEH) with Silicon Carbide (SiC) Used as Cantilever Base
摘要: Silicon carbide (SiC) is a material that possesses hardness and robustness to operate under high temperature condition. This work is a pilot in exploring the feasibility of cubic piezo element on the SiC wafer with integrated proof mass as horizontal cantilever with perpendicular displacement with respect to the normal plane. With the advance of electronic circuitry, the power consumption is reduced to nano-watts. Therefore, harvesting ambient energy and converting into electrical energy through piezoelectric material will be useful for powering low power devices. Resonance is a property which able to optimize the generated output power by tuning the proof masses. The damping ratio is a considerable parameter for optimization. From analytical study, small damping ratio will enhance the output power of the piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH). This paper will present mathematical modelling approach, simulation verification and the conditional circuit named versatile precision full wave rectifier.

摘要: The research and development department of Square Enix, the Advanced Technology Division (ATD), has recently released a virtual reality (VR) adaptation of a manga. Since the very beginning of this project, its theme has been the question: 'What would it be like to be inside a manga?' Manga is a strongly established narrative style, with a distinctive visual aesthetic. It typically features cinematic frames, strong black and white contrast, outlines of varying thickness, speed lines, and patterns like hatching or half-tone to compensate for the lack of color, among other elements. Would this style work in VR? How could page composition be translated to a 3D space? Would the outlines make sense in 3D? Would patterns still work with the pixel density of current VR headsets? Such are some of the aspects the project was meant to tackle. In this course we offer to share some of the lessons learned through this experiment. We will concentrate on the rendering, but there are other interesting elements to consider like interaction and pacing, which fall outside the scope of this course.

An optimized harmonic probe with tailored resonant mode for multifrequency atomic force microscopy
摘要: For simultaneously measuring specimen’s surface morphology and material properties, multifrequency atomic force microscopy is often employed. In this kind of atomic force microscopy, if the probe’s higher-order resonance frequencies match the integer multiples of its fundamental frequency, the probe’s responses at such harmonic frequencies will be enhanced. Meanwhile, an enlarged effective slope during vibration at the probe’s tip results in an improved probe sensitivity. Moreover, increasing the probe’s natural frequency leads to a fast scanning speed. In this study, we propose to design cantilever probes that satisfy the aforementioned requirements via a structural optimization technique. A cantilever probe is represented by a three-layer symmetrical geometric model, and its width profile is continuously varied through the optimization procedure. Thereafter, an optimized design of probe considering the fifth harmonic is prepared by focused ion beam milling. Both simulation and experiment results show that the prepared probe agrees well with design requirements.

Modeling and multiresponse optimization of cutting parameters in SPDT of a rigid contact lens polymer using RSM and desirability function
摘要: Amidst different conventional contact lens manufacturing techniques, single-point diamond turning (SPDT) is one of the recently developed ultra-high precision machining techniques employed in the fabrication of advanced contact lenses due to its capability of producing high optical surfaces of complex shapes and nanometric accuracy. SPDT is regarded as an effective process for the generation of high-quality functional surfaces in optical industries. However, despite advances in the ultra-high precision machining, it is not always easy to achieve a high-quality surface finish with maximum productivity. Machining parameters, namely cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, play the lead role in determining the machine economics and quality of machining. The present study focuses on the determination of the optimum cutting conditions leading to minimum surface roughness as well as electrostatic charge and maximum productivity, in SPDT of the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) contact lens polymer using monocrystalline diamond cutting tool. The optimization is based on the response surface methodology (RSM) together with the desirability function approach. In addition, a mathematical model is developed for surface roughness (Ra), electrostatic charge (ESC), and material removal rate (MRR) using RSM regression analysis for a rigid contact lens polymer by the Design-Expert software. RSM allowed the optimization of the cutting conditions for minimal surface roughness, electrostatic charge, and maximal material removal rate which provides an effective knowledge base for process parameters, to make its enhancement of process performance in SPDT of contact lens polymer.

Vector quantization using the improved differential evolution algorithm for image compression
摘要: Vector quantization (VQ) is a popular image compression technique with a simple decoding architecture and high compression ratio. Codebook designing is the most essential part in vector quantization. Linde–Buzo–Gray (LBG) is a traditional method of generation of VQ codebook which results in lower PSNR value. A codebook affects the quality of image compression, so the choice of an appropriate codebook is a must. Several optimization techniques have been proposed for global codebook generation to enhance the quality of image compression. In this paper, a novel algorithm called IDE-LBG is proposed which uses improved differential evolution algorithm coupled with LBG for generating optimum VQ codebooks. The proposed IDE works better than the traditional DE with modifications in the scaling factor and the boundary control mechanism. The IDE generates better solutions by efficient exploration and exploitation of the search space. Then the best optimal solution obtained by the IDE is provided as the initial codebook for the LBG. This approach produces an efficient codebook with less computational time and the consequences include excellent PSNR values and superior quality reconstructed images. It is observed that the proposed IDE-LBG find better VQ Codebooks as compared to IPSO-LBG, BA-LBG and FA-LBG.
