  • A Fluorescent Probe with Aggregation-Induced Emission for Detecting Alkaline Phosphatase and Cell Imaging

    摘要: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is associated with many diseases, and its accurate detection is of great significance. Fluorescent compounds with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature show beneficial advantages for serving as fluorescent probes. Herein, an AIE-active “turn on” probe for ALP detection was synthesized through incorporating a strong electron-withdrawing group (cyano) in the middle and the recognition moiety phosphate group at the end, thereby rendering a D–A–D structure with a relatively high conjugation degree and good water solubility. It was found that the probe TPE-CN-pho is highly sensitive to ALP in aqueous solution. In the presence of ALP, the hydrophilic phosphate group on the probe is rapidly removed, resulting in a decrease in water solubility and subsequent formation of aggregates, thereby achieving aggregation-induced emission. Moreover, the probe TPE-CN-pho has also been successfully applied to imaging ALP in living cells.

  • Performance investigation of a hybrid PV-diesel power system for remote areas

    摘要: Algeria is in a region with an enormous potential of solar energy for power generation. However, photovoltaic (PV) power plants have not yet been developed sufficiently in the country, and its applications such as PV pumping, solar distillation, and solar heating. The main problem is the high maintenance, operating costs, fossil‐fuel transportation, and CO2 emission of Bordj Badji Mokhtar's (BBM's) diesel power plant that exhibits a noteworthy issue in south Algeria. This paper presents the results of a theoretical and experimental study for PV/diesel hybrid energy system (HES) considering the load demand profile and the solar radiation in isolated area of south Algeria. Suggested hybridization based on a renewable energy with a view to an improved environment is promising. Study results show the performance of PV/diesel system based on solar radiation. The experiment load curve in this typical area may conduct the diesel generator to operate at 60% to 70% of its nominal power with less fuel consumption, and it has been verified during this study that the implementation of a PV/diesel hybrid system is efficient for higher load and higher solar radiation. Results and discussions are encouraging considering less emission of greenhouse gases and less storage of fuel, which drives the government to draw a political arrangement for the improvement of cleaner forms of electricity generation.

  • Spontaneous and stimulated radiative emission of modulated free-electron quantum wavepackets—semiclassical analysis

    摘要: Here we present a semiclassical analysis of spontaneous and stimulated radiative emission from unmodulated and optically-modulated free-electron quantum wavepackets. We show that the radiative emission/absorption and corresponding deceleration/acceleration of the wavepackets depend on the controllable ‘history-dependent’ wavepacket size. The characteristics of the radiative interaction when the wavepacket size (duration) is short relative to the radiation wavelength, are close to the predictions of the classical point-particle modelling. On the other hand, in the long-sized wavepacket limit, the interaction is quantum-mechanical, and it diminishes exponentially at high frequency. We exemplify these effects through the scheme of Smith-Purcell radiation, and demonstrate that if the wavepacket is optically-modulated and periodically-bunched, it exhibits ?nite radiative emission at harmonics of the modulation frequency beyond the limit of high-frequency cutoff. Besides, the radiation analysis is further extended to the cases of superradiant emission from a beam of phase-correlated modulated electron wavepackets. The features of the wavepacket-dependent radiative emission explain the classical-to-quantum transition, and indicate a way for measuring the quantum electron wavepacket size. This suggests a new direction for exploring light–matter interaction.

  • Past and Present of Imaging Modalities Used for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis: Androgen Receptor Targeted Imaging of Prostate Cancer as a Future Modality for Early, Rapid and Efficient Diagnosis

    摘要: Background: Prostate cancer is the second most prevailing cancer among men worldwide. In the most cases, prostate cancer is slowly progressing, whereas, in some cases, it is a rapidly progressing disease leading to the significantly high mortality rate. Thus, there is still demand for prostate-specific imaging in order to provide image-guided early diagnosis and for the provision of patient-specific therapy. Discussion: Besides discussing traditional diagnostic approaches, this review illustrates a perspective on prostate cancer imaging summarizing current imaging approaches with a special focus on Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), Bombesin (BN) and Androgen Receptor (AR) targeted imaging using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Single Positron Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) based on 99mTc and other radiotracers. Here, the prostate biology is reconsidered for nuclear imaging as future modality for early, rapid and efficient diagnosis of prostate cancer. Conclusion: Future direction in prostate cancer imaging involves the development of androgen receptor based imaging using nonsteroidal antiandrogen agent for early diagnosis of prostate cancer.

  • Solution of the time dependent Schr?dinger equation leading to Fowler-Nordheim field emission

    摘要: We solve the time-dependent Schr?dinger equation describing the emission of electrons from a metal surface by an external electric field E, turned on at t = 0. Starting with a wave function ψ(x, 0), representing a generalized eigenfunction when E = 0, we find ψ(x, t) and show that it approaches, as t → ∞, the Fowler-Nordheim tunneling wavefunction ψE(x). The deviation of ψ from ψE decays asymptotically as a power law t?3. The time scales involved for typical metals and fields of several V/nm are of the order of femtoseconds. We plot the short-time evolution of the current and density.

  • Experimental investigation on the optical emission spectroscopy of dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuators at different atmospheric pressures

    摘要: The experiment of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuator using an asymmetrical electrodes configuration is conducted to investigate optical emission spectroscopy of the plasma discharge at pressures from 0.02 to 0.1 Mpa in air mixed with various concentrations of Ar (0%, 20%, 50%, and 80%). The measurements were performed with a sinusoidal driven DBD having an amplitude of 12 kV and a frequency of 1 kHz. The diffuse DBD discharge images and the optical emission spectra are recorded successfully, and the effects of pressure and concentration of Ar are investigated, respectively. It is found that the emission intensities of air discharge increase with decreasing the pressure but increasing the concentration of Ar to some extent. Especially, when the pressure is lower than 0.04 Mpa or the concentration of Ar is over 50%, the emission intensities increase obviously rapidly. The experimental results indicate that the low pressure environment and the high concentration of Ar are beneficial to improve the performance of the DBD plasma discharge actuators.

  • Optical emission spectroscopy investigation of the current sheet in a small-bore parallel-plate electromagnetic plasma accelerator

    摘要: The optical emission spectrum of the propagating current sheet in a small-bore parallel-plate electromagnetic plasma accelerator has been studied. The accelerator is powered by a fourteen stage pulse forming network, which yields a damped oscillation square wave of current with a pulse width of 20.5 ls. The movement of the first current sheet and the second current sheet is identified using three single magnetic probes placed at various axial positions. Current sheet canting is measured by two double magnetic probes. The spectrum of the current sheet is measured using a spectroscopic system. The electron density of the current sheet plasma is determined via Stark broadening of the hydrogen Ha line. The current sheet is almost perpendicular to the electrode. The current sheet electron density increases as the current sheet propagates. The current sheet electron density is mainly determined by the prefill pressure rather than the discharge current. The impurity charged particles caused by ablation of the back wall insulator exists in the current sheet. Residual particles are generally left behind the first current sheet and are swept and ionized by the second current sheet. The estimated current sheet sweeping efficiency is greater than 80%. The parallel-plate electromagnetic plasma accelerator developed in this paper shows great potential in generating high electron density plasma jets.

    摘要: The planar type electron emission devices based on a graphene-oxide-semiconductor structure were developed. The GOS type electron emission devices fabricated by the combination of low temperature graphene deposition process of 800 ℃ and the post device annealing at 300 ℃ in vacuum achieved both of very high electron emission efficiency more than 10 % and high electron emission densities of around 100 mA/cm2.

  • Improved design of a photon enhanced thermionic energy converter

    摘要: In this work, the model of photon enhanced thermionic energy converter (PETEC) is improved to design a new vacuum thermionic energy converter (VTEC) consisting of a cathode and an anode is established, in which the two electrode materials are made of p-type silicon semiconductor coated negative electron affinity material and boron doped diamond. Formulas for the power output density and efficiency of the VTEC are derived. The electron affinity is optimized to obtain the maximum power output density and efficiency of the VTEC. Making a trade-off between the power output density and efficiency, the parametric optimum design criteria are determined. The results obtained in this work are helpful for developing novel VTECs.
