Strength in Numbers: Development of a Fluorescence Sensor Array for Secondary Structures of DNA
摘要: High-throughput assessment of secondary structures adopted by DNA oligonucleotides is currently hampered by the lack of suitable biophysical methods. Fluorescent sensors hold great potential in this respect; however, the moderate selectivity that they display for one DNA conformation over the others constitutes a major drawback to the development of accurate assays. Moreover, the use of single sensors impedes a comprehensive classification of the tested sequences. Herein, we propose to overcome these limitations through the development of a fluorescence sensor array constituted by easily accessible, commercial dyes. Multivariate analysis of the emission data matrix produced by the array allows to explore the conformational preferences of DNA sequences of interest, either by calculating the probability of group membership in the six predefined structural categories (three G-quadruplex groups, double-stranded, and two groups of single-stranded forms), or by revealing their particular structural features. The assay enables rapid screening of synthetic DNA oligonucleotides in a 96-well plate format.

A low-profile 28-GHz Rotman lens-fed array beamformer for 5G conformal subsystems
摘要: This paper reports on the first demonstration of an experimental millimeter-wave (mm-wave) beamforming based on the conformal Rotman lens. The passive switched-beam network is intended for operation in the 28-GHz band, covering the 18-38 GHz range, for the deployment in the fifth generation (5G) subsystems. The primary objective of this work is to conduct the feasibility of designing a beamforming network (BFN) based on the liquid-crystal polymer substrate, and to evaluate the performances in terms of the scattering (S)-parameters and surface currents for the proposed flexural case of the convex-circumferential bending. A prototype has been accurately fabricated, and a setup has also been deployed to conduct the measurements. The performance in terms of the linear progressive phase behavior, as the main figure of merit, has been shown. The BFN exhibits significant characteristics to be used as a low-profile unit of the transceivers with the in-built beam steering for the conformal 5G subsystems.

30.2: Amorphous Silicon Thin-Film Transistor Gate Driver Circuit Design with Time Division Driving Method for In-Cell Touch Display Panel
摘要: In this paper, an integrated hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin-film transistor (TFT) gate driver circuit design with the time division driving method is demonstrated for in-cell touch display panels. The design can avoid long-term biasing of the pull-up TFT in the conventional gate driver circuits and address the issues due to leakage current at Q node in the circuit during the touch sensing period. Therefore, the overall reliability of the circuit is improved. The design of the circuit is also simple without needing any additional signal inputs. As a result, the proposed circuit design can be used to pause display operation to perform touch sensing operation several times per frame, which can realize 60 Hz display scanning and 120 Hz touch reporting rate.

Solar Water Pump
摘要: Solar powered water pumping systems have become the interest of many people in the recent years. Acknowledging that nature has provided a bounty of energy which can be converted into electrical energy has created innovative ways of discovering materials that can be used to make a system that supports turning heat into electricity. In this regard, the paper presented different concepts that relate to how the whole energy creation process is done and discusses useful ways of turning heat into useful energy. Furthermore, the recommendations dictate that while advancements in the technology are given attention, the issue of the investment cost and how it will thrive in the market is still a question. Nevertheless, many developing and developed countries continue to express interest in this area, and most are actively using and exploring how solar power can be used in other ways. Photovoltaic systems which are used to pump water for people, livestock and plants are an important move for technology and use of solar energy. Pumping water system using this PV technology has shown that is simple and that it does not require a lot of maintenance. In this regard, the idea gained the interest of farmers whose main concern is providing sufficient water not only for themselves but also for their plants and crops and livestock. The only major difference to this is that the system relies on solar energy as a power source for the pumps.

摘要: This paper presents a novel flexible ink-printable log-periodic wideband dipole array (LPDA) antenna for high-band 5G applications. The antenna is fed by microstrip line through a wideband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline (CPS) balun. The antenna gain enhancement is achieved by adding three directors of decreasing length, based on the principle of Yagi-Uda antenna. The antenna gain remains (cid:149) 9.74 dBi over the whole operating frequency range of 23-28.5 GHz. The 10-dB bandwidth of the antenna is 21.8%, covering desired frequencies of 24.5 GHz and 28 GHz.

摘要: In this paper a low-cost solution applicable in the field of continuous monitoring of critical equipment in industry and smart homes is described. It employs a relatively new IR array sensor MLX90621 and implements the IoT concept and three-layer architecture. The implementation of this IoT solution is based on an open source hardware microcontroller development board PIC32-T795 and wireless MOD Wi-Fi ESP8266 module. It is considered to be with reasonable cost and affordable for the potential users. The paper demonstrates the benefits of having an inexpensive infrared sensor as a part of the developed solution for continuous monitoring of critical equipment for overheating.

Compressed sensing reconstruction of synthetic transmit aperture dataset for volumetric diverging wave imaging
摘要: A high volume rate and high performance ultrasound imaging method based on a matrix array is proposed by using compressed sensing (CS) to reconstruct the complete dataset of synthetic transmit aperture (STA) from three-dimensional (3D) diverging wave transmissions (i.e., 3D CS-STA). Hereto, a series of apodized 3D diverging waves are transmitted from a fixed virtual source, with the ith row of a Hadamard matrix taken as the apodization coefficients in the ith transmit event. Then CS is used to reconstruct the complete dataset, based on the linear relationship between the backscattered echoes and the complete dataset of 3D STA. Finally, standard STA beamforming is applied on the reconstructed complete dataset to obtain the volumetric image. Four layouts of element numbering for apodizations and transmit numbers of 16, 32, and 64 are investigated through computer simulations and phantom experiments. Furthermore, the proposed 3D CS-STA setups are compared with 3D single-line-transmit (SLT) and 3D diverging wave compounding (DWC). The results show that, i) 3D CS-STA has competitive lateral resolutions to 3D STA, and their contrast ratios (CRs) and contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) approach to those of 3D STA as the number of transmit events increases in noise-free condition. ii) the tested 3D CS-STA setups show good robustness in complete dataset reconstruction in the presence of different levels of noise. iii) 3D CS-STA outperforms 3D SLT and 3D DWC. More specifically, the 3D CS-STA setup with 64 transmit events and the Random layout achieves ~31% improvement in lateral resolution, ~14% improvement in ratio of the estimated-to-true cystic areas, a higher volume rate, and competitive CR/CNR when compared with 3D DWC. The results demonstrate that 3D CS-STA has great potential of providing high quality volumetric image with a higher volume rate.

摘要: In imaging of multilayered object, total focusing method (TFM) combined with ray-tracing appeals to numerous researchers because of its superior image quality. But lots of iterative computation to calculate the incident points greatly increases its processing time. Based on line scan-conversion algorithm and Snell’s principle, this paper proposes an efficient method to calculate the incident point. By dividing the image area into multiple regions, the time-consuming iterative calculation of point of incidence (POI) is eliminated. After introducing this method into TFM, the time complexity of Region-Division (RD) TFM is reduced by one order of magnitude. The simulation experiments validate that the imaging speed of RD-TFM is improved dozens of times compared to traditional TFM with ray-tracing. Besides, RD-TFM applies to multilayered objects with both planar and non-planar interface.

Selective Light Field Refocusing for Camera Arrays Using Bokeh Rendering and Superresolution
摘要: Camera arrays provide spatial and angular information within a single snapshot. With refocusing methods, focal planes can be altered after exposure. In this letter, we propose a light field refocusing method to improve the imaging quality of camera arrays. In our method, the disparity is first estimated. Then, the unfocused region (bokeh) is rendered by using a depth-based anisotropic filter. Finally, the refocused image is produced by a reconstruction-based superresolution approach where the bokeh image is used as a regularization term. Our method can selectively refocus images with focused region being super-resolved and bokeh being esthetically rendered. Our method also enables post-adjustment of depth of field. We conduct experiments on both public and self-developed datasets. Our method achieves superior visual performance with acceptable computational cost as compared to other state-of-the-art methods.

Two-Stage Beamforming for Phased Array Imaging using the Fast Hankel Transform
摘要: An ultrasound scan generates a huge amount of data. To form an image this data has to be transferred to the imaging system. This is an issue for applications where the data transfer capacity is limited such as hand-held systems, wireless probes and miniaturized array probes. Two-stage beamforming methods can be used to significantly reduce the data transfer requirements. In the first stage, which is applied in-probe, the amount of data is reduced from channel to scanline data. In the imaging system the data is then beamformed to obtain images that are synthetically focused over the entire image. Currently two approaches exist for the second stage. The first approach is a time-of-flight approach called synthetic aperture sequential beamforming (SASB) that has been developed for both linear and phased arrays. SASB does however introduce artefacts in the image that can be reduced by tapering the first stage scan lines at the cost of lateral resolution. The second approach is based on the wave equation, but a computationally efficient method for phased arrays that is producing sector scan data is lacking. Here we propose an algorithm that uses the fast Hankel transform to obtain a fast algorithm. The imaging performance of this method is evaluated with simulations and experiments. Compared with PSASB, which is an adaption of SASB for phased arrays, our method requires a similar amount of operations to construct the entire image and there is no trade-off between resolution and artefacts. These results show the advantage of using the wave equation instead of a time-of-flight approach.
