Communicating the spatiotemporal transformation of architectural heritage via an in-situ projection mapping installation
摘要: Understanding the spatial transformation of architectural heritage over time is crucial for documentation and conservation purposes, but also for communicating the salient architectural features of the buildings’ evolution to the public at large. With the rapid evolution of physical computing technologies such as electronics, sensors and digital projections, we believe that the technique of projection mapping offers great potential in communicating heritage in-situ because its graphical depiction on the heritage itself can more directly relate to the real context in more experiential ways. Furthermore, digital projections can include various interactive functionalities that together with its architectural size provide an immersive experience that is dynamic and adaptable to the interests of the visitors. Consequently, this paper aims to investigate the deployment of an interactive projection mapping installation in-situ which can be steered by a tangible user interface (TUI). Through an in-the-wild study, we deployed a mixed-method evaluation to investigate how such an interactive projection mapping enhances the communication of the spatiotemporal transformation of a medieval chapel that occurred during the last 850 years. Our findings show how the in-situ projection positively affects visitors’ understanding and memorability of the aesthetic features, and how its combination with a tangible interface enhances the communication of the spatial features of the chapel over time, and allows for more social interaction among them. The paper concludes with several discussion points and recommendations for applying interactive projection mapping and TUIs in the context of architectural heritage.

Subsea Cable Condition Monitoring with Distributed Optical Fibre Vibration Sensor
摘要: A novel subsea cable condition monitoring technique based on embedded optical fibre inside the cable is demonstrated. It is shown that a distributed optical fibre vibration sensor can be used to map dynamic strains all along the cable simultaneously. It is experimentally shown that such system can fully quantify the location and strain level at each point on the cable as a function of time for both abrupt impact and cyclical loading. The sensing system demonstrated a spatial and strain resolution of 1m and 4με, respectively, over a 10km sensing range.

摘要: This paper discusses modelling of photovoltaic pumping system (PVPS) applications and presents a simple but accurate model for the evaluation of performance of a large-scale multi-pump off-grid PVPS', with single axis solar tracking and variable frequency drive control of pumps. The presented model is validated on an example of an actual 357 kWp 2-pump PVPS installation, demonstrating its use for feasibility and planning studies. The results of a brief economic analysis of the considered off-grid PVPS suggest an estimated 10-year payback period, when compared to the cost of a grid-connected configuration.

Star sensor installation error calibration in stellar-inertial navigation system with a regularized backpropagation neural network
摘要: The star sensor is the attitude reference in a stellar-inertial navigation system. It is essential to acquire the star sensor installation error, which has a great influence on the system navigation performance. However, traditional methods have a poor tolerance for a large range of installation errors, especially when the system works under a separate installation mode. In this paper a novel calibration method, using a regularized backpropagation (BP) neural network, is proposed. With a specially designed calibration procedure, the neural network is structured with BP and the regularization is improved. The network training is conducted for parameter solidification. The calibration can be achieved without formula derivation and numerical calculation under both small and large installation errors. In the experiment, the calibration accuracy is about 5 arcsec under small installation errors and about 20 arcsec under large installation errors, which is much better than a Kalman filter. The proposed method has the potential to be a universal star sensor calibration method under integrative installation mode or separated installation mode with large installation error.

Supplier Selection for Photovoltaic Module Installation Utilizing Fuzzy Inference and the VIKOR Method: A Green Approach
摘要: The necessary transformation of the world’s energy matrices has led to a growth in developing technologies based on renewable sources. In this context, photovoltaic panels and their components count in Brazil with a production and commercialization chain that has accumulated a sustained growth of more than 100% of its generation capacities between the years 2018 and 2019, and that can fulfill or overcome this rate in 2019 to 2020. However, the conditions of a competitive market and the availability of a significant number of middle and small companies for the distribution and installation of photovoltaic technology may represent a scenario where multiple indicators must be considered. The purpose of this study is to apply a combined method to aid decision-making that corresponds to the supplier selection of the technology in the context of Northeast Brazil. The method is composed by the combination of a diffuse inference technique together with a multicriteria decision-making method, VIKOR, and the weight assignment to the indicators using the entropy method, according to the values of the decision matrix resulting from the diffuse inference technique that allows to develop the calculus. The results show that data collection from multiple sources and based on input variables can offer metrics about the suppliers for the selection criteria. Restrictions derived from data collection can be a barrier, and the method relies on an adapted script that facilitates application.

Spider beam source ready for operation
摘要: The SPIDER Beam Source (BS), the first prototype of a full scale ion source for the ITER Heating Neutral Beam injector, was delivered to the Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) site in Padova (Italy) after about five years procurement phase. A huge effort was devoted during the procurement for quality controls and testing at the supplier's workshops. Several activities were also carried out on NBTF site for verification/adjustment of interfaces, solution of still open issues, as well as final tests before and after installation inside the vacuum vessel. The NBTF Team undertook the BS site acceptance tests including: pressure and leak tests of the hydraulic circuits; electrical tests; measurement of magnetic field profiles; functionality tests of diagnostics installed on the BS; checks of grids alignment by means of laser tracker. Accurate positioning of the BS inside the vacuum vessel was performed and various service lines were connected in a tight space. Several improvements were undertaken in order to guarantee reliability and reduce the risks during the commissioning and experimental campaign in 2018. After installation, the integrated commissioning phase was initiated, powering the RF and high voltage circuits, followed by the first operation in vacuum.

Calibration Method of Laser Detection System With Position Sensitive Detector
摘要: The measurement accuracy of the LDS with the PSD is crucial in all the military applications, and hence it is of great benefit to calibrate the LDS with the PSD before use. This work mainly provides two contributions: first, the measurement model of the LDS with installation errors is deduced. Second, a calibration method of the LDS with installation errors is designed with only one independent three-axis turntable. Then, a semiphysical simulation test is launched. Comparing laser angles (cid:2)u and (cid:2)c, which are obtained from the data before and after calibration, we find that the calibration result is close to the reference. The proposed method is promising and, we believe, practical.

The impact of shading on the exploitation of photovoltaic installations
摘要: The article presents an overview of aspects of shading’s influence in photovoltaic systems that are the most important in the opinion of the authors. Discussing this particular problem is essential for minimizing the losses in the energy gain which is heavily dependent on the amount of radiation reaching photovoltaic cells. The radiation itself may be considerably limited due to the pollution or shading of the working area of PV panels. Because of that, it is necessary to undertake actions to prevent the unfavorable effects of shading. Due to its importance in research on PV panels, the authors of the following publication decided to introduce most crucial factors responsible for shading; including its characteristics, influence on overall functionality of PV panels or possible prevention methods. The analyzed issues were supplemented with the results of the original researches and simulations conducted for the need of this very article. Thus, appropriate steps should be undertaken as early as the design process of PV begins. Such measures may contribute to not only the increase of energy gain, but potential improvement in terms of profitability of the entire investment.

An On-Orbit Dynamic Calibration Method for an MHD Micro-Angular Vibration Sensor Using a Laser Interferometer
摘要: The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) micro-angular vibration sensor is a signi?cant component of the MHD Inertial Reference Unit (MIRU) and measures micro-amplitude and wide frequency angular vibration. The MHD micro-angular vibration sensor must be calibrated in orbit since the ground calibration parameters may change after lift-off. An on-orbit dynamic calibration method for the MHD micro-angular vibration sensor is proposed to calibrate the complex sensitivity of the sensor in high frequency. An absolute calibration method that combines a homodyne laser interferometer and an angular retrore?ector was developed. The sinusoidal approximation method was applied, and the calibration system was established and tested using a manufactured MHD sensor. Furthermore, the measurement principle and installation errors were analyzed, including the eccentric installation error of the retrore?ector, the tilt installation error of the retrore?ector, and the optical path tilt error. This method can be realized within a rotation range of ±3? and effectively avoid the installation error caused by mechanical errors. The results indicate that the calibratable angular vibration frequency range is 25–800 Hz, and the angular velocity range is 0.076–7590 mrad/s. The expanded uncertainties of the sensitivity amplitude and phase shift of the calibration system for the MHD micro-angular sensor are 0.04% and 1.2? (k = 2).

Output power behavior of passivated emitter and rear cell photovoltaic modules during early installation stage: influence of light-induced degradation
摘要: The conversion efficiency of passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) photovoltaic (PV) modules decreases via light-induced degradation (LID). In this study, two models of commercial PERC PV modules were employed. These modules were exposed outdoors until the accumulated solar irradiation reached 687 kW m?2 to investigate their power generation behavior during the early installation stage. The maximum output power (Pmax) finally decreased by 1.52% in one model and by 4.29% in the other model. Pmax of the latter model increased after LID owing to light-induced regeneration under open-circuit conditions. However, power generation in the array of the latter model connected to an electrical power grid was not changed after LID and no recovery was observed. It was found that the extent of degradation and the behavior differ depending on not only the difference in models but also the circuit conditions during exposure. ? 2019 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
