摘要: This paper describes the effectiveness of differential detection for reducing laser noise in the low-frequency region in an electro-optic (EO) sensor system. Improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is necessary for expanding the applications of EO sensor systems. In a previous work, an alternating current coupling was used at an optical receiver to eliminate a direct current (DC) signal. As a result, the low-frequency effectiveness of the differential detection could not be estimated. Therefore, in this study, we modified a photodiode bias circuit for DC coupling measurement.

摘要: The electric power grid wide-area monitoring system (WAMS) has been extended from the transmission to distribution level. As the first WAMS deployed at the distribution level, the frequency monitoring network FNET/GridEye uses global positioning system-time-synchronized monitors, called frequency disturbance recorders, to capture dynamic grid behaviors. In this paper, the latest developments of monitor design and the state-of-the-art data analytics applications of FNET/GridEye are introduced. Its innovations and uniqueness are also discussed. Thanks to its low cost, easy installation, and multifunctionalities, FNET/GridEye works as a cost-effective situational awareness tool for power grid operators and pioneers the development of WAMS in electric power grids.

摘要: This paper presents a placement algorithm for fault location observability using phasor measurement units (PMUs) in the presence or absence of zero injection buses. The problem is formulated as a binary semidefinite programming (BSDP) model with binary decision variables, minimizing a linear objective function subject to linear matrix inequality (LMI) observability constraints. The model is extended to take into account the unavailability or limited capacity of communication links at some PMU installation buses. The BSDP problem is solved using an outer approximation scheme based on binary integer linear programming. The method is illustrated with a 6-bus test system. Numerical simulations are conducted on the IEEE 14-, 30-, and 57-bus standard test systems to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

摘要: The design and real-time hardware-in-the-loop implementation of a hybrid synchrophasors and GOOSE-based automatic synchronization algorithm are presented in this paper. Automatic synchronization is performed by utilizing the synchrophasor measurements from two commercial phasor measurement units (PMUs), while the coordinated control commands to automatic voltage regulator and/or turbine governor control and trip command to the circuit breaker are issued using IEC 61850-8-1 GOOSE messages. The algorithm is deployed inside the PMU using the protection logic equations, and direct communication between the PMUs is established to minimize the communication latencies. In addition, the algorithm is tested using a standard protection relay test-set, and automatic test sequences are executed to validate its performance. It is concluded that the hybrid synchrophasor and GOOSE-based automatic synchronization scheme ensures minimum communication latencies, reduces equipment cost, facilitates interoperability, and performs automatic reconnection adequately.

摘要: Recent investigations have revealed the susceptibility of phasor measurement units (PMUs) to the time synchronization attack by spoofing its global positioning system (GPS). This paper proposes a cross-layer detection mechanism to fight against simultaneous attacks toward multiple PMUs. In the physical layer, we propose a GPS carrier-to-noise ratio (C/No) based spoofing detection technique. We apply the patch-monopole hybrid antenna to two GPS receivers and compute the difference between the standard deviation of each receiver’s C/No. The priori probability of spoofing is calculated from the distributions of the difference. A counter is embedded in the physical layer to identify the most suspicious PMU. In the upper layer, the spoofing attack is considered similarly to the bad data injection toward the power system. A trustworthiness evaluation, which is based on both the physical layer information and power grid measurements, is applied to identify the PMU being attacked. An experiment has been carried to validate the proposed algorithm.

The analytical model is based on dynamic phasor approach. In this technique the system quantities are described as fourier coefficients. These fourier coefficients are varying with time. The model built using dynamic phasor technique has ability to analysis the small signals. The model is built in MATLAB and it finds to be more accurate and allow large step size simulation resulting in less computational time.

摘要: State estimation (SE) is a critical must run successful unit within energy management system software. This is dictated by the high reliability requirements for system security and control and the need to represent the closest real-time model for market operations. There has been considerable emphasis in bringing phasor measurements into SE to improve performance. However, there are many practical problems in incorporating phasor measurements into SE. The higher reporting rates of phasor measurement units compared with supervisory control and data acquisition devices is one such problem. The disparity of the reporting rates raises the question of whether buffering the phasor measurements helps to improve the state estimates. This buffer is a subset of the entire phasor measurements set relevant to every particular instant at which SE is conducted. This paper describes the design of an optimal buffer, the use of the phasor measurements from that buffer, and the analysis of the impact on SE with the inclusion of these buffered phasor measurements. This hybrid SE, used for analysis purposes, is created from contemporary real-time system data and measurements from a utility in southwest USA.
