  • Efficiency in Street Lighting Projects by Employing LED Luminaires and Mesopic Photometry

    摘要: This paper discusses the importance of adapting conventional photometric quantities when lighting systems with low luminance levels are under analysis, as public lighting or external lighting in general. In this sense, it is presented an alternative methodology for lighting projects in street lighting, considering the mesopic photometry. The CIE recommendation 191:2010 proposes correction factors that convert conventional photometric quantities (photopic) into quantities adapted to the corresponding mesopic level. However, a necessary parameter to obtain these correction factors is the relationship between the scotopic and photopic light fluxes of a light source (S/P ratio), which requires special equipment that it is not easily available to engineers, technicians and lighting designers. Thus, this paper proposes a general equation that provides the S/P ratio as a function of the correlative color temperature and the color rendering index of the light source, which are information provided in the manufacturers’ catalogs or electric lamp packages. To illustrate the application of the experimentally derived relationship, a typical street lighting project is considered, specifically a retrofit from HPS lamps to modern LED luminaires. In this case, the conventional routine must be changed, allowing the adaptation of conventional quantities to mesopic quantities without need for specialized equipment. The case study evidences that the use of mesopic photometry in conjunction with more appropriate technologies, such as LED luminaires, lead to a higher energy efficiency of the system.

Measurement of the indicators is based on the resonance examination of the laser beam. The method of constructing laser photometers for evaluation of transformer oils quality is considered. The use of photometers is tested on experimental stands in the production conditions of power plants (where the oils are used for heat transfer during cooling of transformers).

    摘要: The accuracy of a measurement method for the chromaticity and photometric quantity of laser displays using centroid wavelengths was experimentally verified. This method allows more accurate optical evaluation of laser displays in principle than the method using peak wavelengths which has been commonly known in the laser industry.

  • COMPARISON OF OPTICAL METHODS FOR CHARACTERIZATION OF GLASS MOSAIC WEATHERING

    摘要: The work presented in this paper is a part of research project supported by Ministry of Culture and devoted to conservation of precious mosaic of "Last Judgement" on St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. The aim of the project is to enhance external protective polymeric coating on glass tesserae of mosaic and also to develop optical method for assessment of coating’s surface conditions. The paper concentrates on comparison of various methods for surface evaluation assesses their advantages and disadvantages and also discusses their suitability for long term monitoring of coating state, namely re?ectometry, scanning probe microscopy, nanoindentation, white-light interferometry, and scanning electron microscopy. It is found that white-light interferometry and re?ectometry methods are the most suitable ones for monitoring purposes.

  • Heterochromatic Flicker Photometry for Objective Lens Density Quantification

    摘要: PURPOSE. Although several methods have been proposed to evaluate lens transmittance, to date there is no consensual in vivo approach in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to compare ocular lens density and transmittance measurements obtained by an improved psychophysical scotopic heterochromatic flicker photometry (sHFP) technique to the results obtained by three other measures: a psychophysical threshold technique, a Scheimpflug imaging technique, and a clinical assessment using a validated subjective scale. METHODS. Forty-three subjects (18 young, 9 middle aged, and 16 older) were included in the study. Individual lens densities were measured and transmittance curves were derived from sHFP indexes. Ocular lens densities were compared across methods by using linear regression analysis. RESULTS. The four approaches showed a quadratic increase in lens opacification with age. The sHFP technique revealed that transmittance decreased with age over the entire visual spectrum. This decrease was particularly pronounced between young and older participants in the short (53.03% decrease in the 400–500 nm range) wavelength regions of the light spectrum. Lens density derived from sHFP highly correlated with the values obtained with the other approaches. Compared to other objective measures, sHFP also showed the lowest variability and the best fit with a quadratic trend (r2 ? 0.71) of lens density increase as a function of age. CONCLUSIONS. The sHFP technique offers a practical, reliable, and accurate method to measure lens density in vivo and predict lens transmittance over the visible spectrum. An accurate quantification of lens transmittance should be obtained in clinical practice, but also in research in visual and nonvisual photoreception.

  • PHOTOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF PI OF THE SKY DATA

    摘要: Pi of the Sky is a system of two wide ?eld of view robotic telescopes, which search for short timescale astrophysical phenomena, especially for prompt optical GRB emissions. The system was designed for autonomous operation, monitoring a large fraction of the sky with 12m–13m range and time resolution of the order of 1–10 seconds. Two fully automatic Pi of the Sky detectors located in Spain (INTA — INTA El Arenosillo Test Centre in Mazagón, near Huelva.) and Chile (SPDA — San Pedro de Atacama Observatory.) have been observing the sky almost every night in search of rare optical phenomena. They also collect a lot of useful observations which include e.g. many kinds of variable stars. To be able to draw proper conclusions from the data received, adequate quality of the data is very important. Pi of the Sky data is subject to systematic errors caused by various factors, such as cloud cover, seen as signi?cant ?uctuations in the number of stars observed by the detector, problems with conducting mounting, a strong background of the moon or the passing of a bright object, e.g., a planet, near the observed star. Some of these adverse e?ects have already been detected during the cataloging of individual measurements, but the quality of our data was still not satisfactory for us. In order to improve the quality of our data, we have developed two new procedures based on two di?erent approaches. In this article we will report on these procedures, give some examples, and we will show how these procedures improve the quality of our data[1].

  • Operation and Development of a Center for Collective Use in the Field of Photonics

    摘要: Management and procedural principles underlying the operation and development of the Center for Collective Use of high-precision measurement technologies in the field of photonics for the purpose of assuring equal access of scientists to expensive research and measurement complexes, scientific equipment, and plants are set forth. A number of different procedural approaches to assuring an exhaustive integral supply of the Center for Collective Use with scientific equipment are considered using as an example the creation of a measurement and calibration complex for metrological assurance of measurements in the field of microwave photonics.
