  • Analysis of Tyndall effect on output performance of P.macrophylla Benth. dye-sensitized solar cells

    摘要: The study demonstrates the impact that maximum light-scattering effect has on negligible amount of P.macrophylla B. dye. It investigated the influence of particle size on intensity via the exponential factor of the intensity of Rayleigh scattering. The study adopted two approaches of experimental and theoretical investigations, while two sets of dye sensitive solar cells (DSCs) were employed. One set of DSCs (crude) had an organic light scattering layer attached while the second (hexane) set was without the light scattering layer. The outcome of the experiment revealed a significant increase in photovoltaic performance of DSCs which had an improvised scattering layer. The short circuit current (Isc) of P.macrophylla B. crude was 64.7% higher than that of the hexane DSCs, the open circuit voltage (Voc) of the crude DSC was more than 50% greater than the hexane DSCs. Although, hexane DSCs had a better fill factor (ff), the output performance of the crude DSCs was thrice that recorded by hexane DSCs. The implication of this study is that, theoretical models can be used for simulating optimal angles of incident in DSCs which can be maximized for higher output in further studies.

  • The Influence of Solar Illumination on the Sensitivity of Passive Lidar for Reception of The Scattered Laser Radiation

    摘要: We solve the problem of determining the power of the received scattered optical radiation from external laser beams, which propagate in the Earth’s atmosphere, by passive lidar in a weakly turbid transparent atmosphere and also determine the lidar operation radius. Under the night conditions without solar illumination, the lidar operation radius can exceed 2300 km when detecting the beams with powers is about 100 kW. In the presence of solar illumination, the operation radius decreases by an order of magnitude. For a small power of the external beam, the experimental and theoretical data are in good agreement, which makes it possible to extrapolate the obtained theoretical results to larger powers of the external beams with allowance for the radiation loss because of the secondary Rayleigh scattering.

  • Structural characterization determination of silicon nanocrystals embedded in amorphous silicon nitride matrix from the effect of the light scattering

    摘要: In this work, we will study the elastic and inelastic light scattering by the silicon nanocrystals (Si-nc) embedded in amorphous silicon nitride matrix. Indeed, the photons are subjected to several modifications in terms of intensity, direction and wavelength when they interact with Si-ncs. The reflectance combined with photoluminescence (PL) and Raman spectroscopy are a very sensitive tool for probing the scattering light. Results show that the observed shift of the experimental PL peaks is attributed to the Raman scattering and the PL broadening peaks to the Rayleigh scattering. A novel method allowed the determination of both the core and the surface bond lengths of Si-nc was reported. The decrease of the Raman shift observed in structures containing Si-ncs is mainly due to the Si-nc curved surface, and it reflects the presence of silicon dangling bonds at the Si-nc interfaces.

  • Radiation-induced loss of silica optical fibres with fluorine-doped cladding

    摘要: The effect of gamma-irradiation of the fluorine-doped silica depressed cladding graded-index fibre (DCGIF) has been researched. New mechanism of the non-bridging oxygen hole centers (NBOHC) defect formation, conditioned by different mobility of diffusion counter flows of fluorine and oxygen at the core-cladding interface, has been proposed. Using silica tubes with 0.02 wt% of OH groups and hydrogen in free state in MCVD-technology of DCGIF fabrication completely eliminates the NBOHC absorption at the wavelength of 630 nm. However, gamma-irradiation of such fibres results in anomalously high attenuation level in the visible range of optical spectrum. It was established that irradiation of DCGIF leads to light scattering which is probably due to the appearance of optical inhomogeneities in the glass matrix.

  • Study on Resonance Rayleigh Scattering Spectra, Non-linear Scattering Spectra of Alizarin Red-Cetylpyridinium Bromide-Lead System and its Analytical Application

    摘要: In pH 7.6 NH3·H2O medium, Alizarin red and cetylpyridinium bromide could react with lead to form ternary ion-association complex. As a result, the intensities of resonance Rayleigh scattering and the resonance non-linear scattering such as second-order scattering and frequency-doubling scattering were enhanced greatly. The maximum wavelength of resonance Rayleigh scattering, second-order scattering and frequency-doubling scattering was located at 288, 544 and 390 nm, respectively. The enhancement of the three scattering intensity (?I) was directly proportional to the concentration of lead in the range of 0.12-3.78 μg/mL for resonance Rayleigh scattering, 0.09-2.86 μg/mL for second-order scattering and 0.07-2.86 μg/mL for frequency-doubling scattering] and the detection limits (3σ) were 2.1ng/mL for resonance Rayleigh scattering method, 7.4 ng/mL for second-order scattering and 8.6 ng/mL for frequency-doubling scattering], respectively. Therefore, a new, high-sensitive method of resonance Rayleigh scattering and resonance non-linear scattering was developed to determine trace amount of lead. In this work, the characteristic of resonance Rayleigh scattering, second-order scattering and frequency-doubling scattering] spectra of the Alizarin red-cetylpyridinium bromide-Pb(II) system has been studied. Meanwhile, the influence of pH, resonance probe dosage, coexisting substances and other factors were investigated. The results show that the method exhibits a good selectivity, high sensitivity and easy operation. In addition, the mechanism of the enhancement of scattering spectra was discussed.

  • First Hyperpolarizability of 1,3-Thiazolium-5-Thiolates Mesoionic Compounds

    摘要: The first hyperpolarizabilities of the mesoionic compounds (MICs) 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-4-phenyl-1,3-thiazole-5-thiolate (MIC-1), 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-4-(4-methylphenyl)-1,3-thiazole-5-thiolate (MIC-2), and (2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3-thiazole-5-thiolate) (MIC-3), dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), are reported here for the first time to our knowledge. Hyper-Rayleigh scattering experiments were performed with an excitation source operating at ?? =1180 nm (?? = 8475 cm?1). The measured hyperpolarizability, ??(2??), was used to calculate the static hyperpolarizability, ??(0), by applying the classical two-level model. The values obtained for ??(0) were 10.1 × 10?30 esu (MIC-1), 8.7 × 10?30 esu (MIC-2) and 10.4 × 10?30 esu (MIC-3) which are smaller than previous theoretical predictions that did not consider features related to the liquid phase.
