    摘要: An elegant continuously-tunable bandpass ?lter with a wide tuning range based on liquid metal is presented. The ?lter is realized using square substrate integrated waveguide cavity resonators, capacitively loaded with liquid metal posts at the center of the resonators. By changing the height of the liquid metal posts, and hence altering the loading capacitances, the resonant frequencies of the resonators are continuously tuned. To prove the concept, a second order bandpass ?lter is realized and measured. Measurements con?rm the wide range tunability of the ?lter. This demonstrates that liquid-metal, continuous tuning is a promising mechanism for future frequency-agile ?lter applications.

  • Substrate integrated waveguide cavity backed frequency reconfigurable antenna for cognitive radio applies to internet of things applications

    摘要: In this article, a new multiband frequency reconfigurable substrate integrated waveguide cavity slot antenna was designed using Computer Simulation Technology software tool for addressing the specific design challenges posed by the internet of things (IoT) based cognitive radio networks. Reconfiguration of frequency bands is achieved using PIN diodes. The antenna resonated at 2.624, 2.664, 2.720, 2.752, 4.304, 4.532, 4.556, 5.236, 5.304, 5.368, 5.332, and 5.392 GHz. The resonant frequency capability and radiation performance are demonstrated by both simulations and measurements. The simulated and measured results were in agreement. The higher efficiency, gain and average bandwidth obtained are 90%, 8.2 dBi and 65 MHz, respectively. The compactness, integrity, reliability, and performance at various operating frequencies make the proposed antenna a good candidate for IoT applications.

    摘要: Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) is a low loss transmission line which can be used to connect an antenna to a backed RF circuit in the millimeter wave band. A multi-layer substrate is effective to integrate RF circuits and antennas. Therefore, a transition between a hollow waveguide and a SIW in multi-layer substrate is necessary. However, reflection loss generates at the connections between the hollow waveguide and the SIW in each layer. In this study, a back short and window structures are proposed to use for matching circuit in the transition. Transitions from hollow waveguide to SIWs in multi-layer substrate were designed for low loss over wide bandwidth.

    摘要: A 2 × 3 substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) H-plane hybrid coupler operating at 28 GHz with constant phase shifting outputs is proposed. This proposed 6-port hybrid junction coupler can equally divide the input power into the three output ports, with a constant relative phase difference +120?, 0?, ?120?. Simulation results indicate that within 5% relative bandwidth, our designs achieve a good impedance matching with high isolation, and equal power division having constant phase shifting.

  • Substrate-Integrated-Waveguide Power Dividers: An Overview of the Current Technology

    摘要: Power dividers are important components of microwave/millimeter wave (mm-wave) circuit design. This article provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) power dividers/combiners. SIW technology converts waveguide-like structures into planar form, compensates for the drawbacks of microstrip structures at higher-frequency circuit designs, and minimizes production complexity and costs compared to conventional waveguide structures. An overview of how traditional dividers have progressively adopted the SIW technique is presented and a comparative performance analysis of the divider types and practical paradigm show the future potential of SIW technology.

    摘要: This paper introduces a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) ?lter that can be tuned using contactless rotatable ?aps. There is no mechanical contact between the tuning ?aps and the ?lter body, and this gives a number of advantages in frequency tuning since the ?aps do not experience any friction. In addition, it can be tuned with little power consumption, while maintaining stability. Periodic mushroom shaped pins are formed in the ?ap so that the ?eld generated in the resonator does not leak. Therefore, the Q-factor of the resonator does not decrease even though the ?aps are ?oating in the air. A third-order SIW ?lter was fabricated and measured for veri?cation. The center frequency is from 2.66 GHz to 3.34 GHz and the insertion loss varies from 0.79 dB to 0.88 dB.

    摘要: This paper presents a reconfigurable dual-band bandstop filter utilizing miniaturized folded ridged quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity. By loading a quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity with a capacitive ridge structure and folding the dominant field around said structure, significant miniaturization is achieved. Folded ridged quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity is shown to reduce the area of standard quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity by 92%, while also increasing the fundamental mode. A spurious-free reconfigurable dual-band bandstop filter using miniaturized folded ridged quarter-mode technology is designed, fabricated, and measured. In order to generate independent tuning of each stopband, two resonators are each loaded with a tunable the same capacitance, and nonresonating node, producing a frequency agile filtering section. Two filtering sections are then coupled together through an impedance inverter to produce a dual-band, two-pole bandstop filter. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper presents the first dual-band bandstop filter using quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity technology in the present literature.

  • Compact and Wide Stopband Substrate Integrated Waveguide Bandpass Filter Using Mixed Quarter- and One-Eighth Modes Cavities

    摘要: This letter presents the design of mixed quarter- and one-eighth modes substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass ?lter (BPF). The transmission zeros (TZs) of the proposed SIW BPF can provide wide stopband response and high selectivity characteristics by using different mode SIW cavities. For validation, two- and three-stage SIW BPFs with Chebyshev response were designed at a center frequency ( f0) of 8 GHz. The measured results are consistent with the simulations. For two-stage BPF, the insertion loss smaller than 0.9 dB is measured within the passband of 0.65 GHz (7.75–8.4 GHz). The return loss higher than 19.7 dB is measured within the same passband. The spurious is produced at around 18 GHz (<2.25 f0). The stopbands are attenuated more than 17.31 dB from the dc to 5.68 GHz (0.71 f0) and from 9.28 GHz (1.16 f0) to 16.67 GHz (2.08 f0). The TZs are produced at 10 GHz and around 18 GHz due to a small cross-coupling between source/load and the interaction of the higher resonant modes of cavities, respectively. For three-stage BPF, the |S21| and |S11| smaller than –1.3 dB and –18 dB are measured within the passband of 7.57–8.45 GHz fractional bandwidth (FBW = 11%), respectively. The TZs are produced at 1.102, 1.9, and 2.39 f0 and provide higher selectivity and attenuation compared to two-stage BPF.

  • Cross-Configuration Substrate Integrated Waveguide Beamforming Network for 1D and 2D Beam Patterns

    摘要: This paper presents the simulated and measured results of a dual-layer substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) beamforming network utilizing an 8 × 8 cross-con?guration Butler matrix over a frequency range of 28.5 to 31.5 GHz. By arranging the input ports on the bottom SIW layer and employing dual-layer passband ?lters as a detachment point, the top SIW layer can be interchanged with the purpose of exploring one-dimensional and two-dimensional broadside beam patterns. Although Butler matrices are not typically utilized for beamforming in this con?guration, two examples of interchangeable top layer arrays are demonstrated; the ?rst being a 2 × 8 slot antenna array for 1-D scanning, and the second being a 2 × 4 center-slot array for 2-D scanning. Each of the beamforming network’s simulated and measured 10 dB bandwidth is demonstrated over a range of 28.5 to 31.5 GHz. Additional design details and dimensions are speci?ed for the aforementioned passband ?lter transitions, as well as for each of the slot antenna arrays.

    摘要: In this paper, we present a balun filter and a balanced filter based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). By fully utilizing the EM-field properties, only one SIW cavity is needed to realize the presented second-order balun or balanced filter. After properly arranging the locations of input/output ports in a TE102 and TE201 orthogonal modes SIW cavity, the desired 180o phase difference of balun or balanced filter can be obtained. Hence, filtering responses can be easy integrated to the balun or balanced circuits. The design methods of the two circuits are presented. For demonstration, a balanced filter is fabricated and measured. Good agreement between simulated and measured results verifies the proposed ideas.
