  • Comparative assessments of the performances of PV/T and conventional solar plants

    摘要: The building’s energy demand consists of both thermal energy and electricity that may be provided through solar energy sources. Typically, the electrical energy needs are satisfied by photovoltaic plants (PV)s, while the thermal energy needs are satisfied by solar thermal plants (ST)s. However, there is the possibility to produce simultaneously electrical and thermal energy by hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) plants. This study presents the comparison of the performances of a hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) plant with those of a systems made by a PV plant plus a ST plant (PV+ST). Such comparisons are interesting in those buildings where there is not enough available surface for installing both PV and ST plants as much as necessary for satisfying the energy needs of such buildings ( e.g. in residential tower buildings). This research is carried out having as target a residential unit situated in different geographic areas: Catania (IT) , Split (HR) and Freiburg (D). The outcomes of the energy analysis, calculated following the first and the second thermodynamic law approach, highlight that a PV/T plant produces more energy than a conventional solar system (PV-ST) in the three cities. Otherwise, the results of the economic analysis show that the PV plants allow to achieve the most economic benefits due to the cheaper cost of this technology.

  • Techno‐economic analysis of applying linear parabolic and flat plate solar collectors for heating a building and their comparative evaluation

    摘要: In this study, utilizing two types of solar collectors, including linear parabolic (LPC) and flat solar (FPC) collectors to heat a residential building was investigated from technical and economical point of views. The performance of these two systems were obtained and compared with each other in the cold months of the year in the South-East of Iran. The building and the heating systems were simulated in the TRNSYS software. Both the heating systems were separately analyzed from the energy and economic point of views. Results showed that the FPC and LPC heating systems delivered 51.3% and 46.7% of the received solar energy to the building, respectively. The results also showed that the solar fractions of the LPC and FPC heating systems are 22% and 8.6%, respectively. It was found that the thermal storage tank in the FPC hearing system is more useful than the LPC heating system as the LPC heating system with storage tank has a lower rate of heat loss compared to the system with no thermal storage tank. The rate of return investments in the FPC and LPC heating systems were 18.1% and 22.8%, respectively.

  • Combinations of heat pump and photovoltaics for renovated buildings

    摘要: The aim of this work is the analysis of hybrid heating systems consisting of an air source heat pump, a storage tank and a photovoltaic (PV) system for the use in renovated residential buildings. The potential for decreasing the electrical energy consumption of the heat pump from the grid by targeted operation of the speed controlled compressor with electricity from PV is determined by means of dynamic system simulations in TRNSYS for a renovated single family house under the assumption that the existing radiator heating system is not replaced, and that therefore relatively high supply temperatures are necessary. Different variants were considered with regard to the size of the PV system, the storage volume and the influence of the heat emission system.

    摘要: In Chapter 10 the basic concepts of simulation were developed, that is, the simultaneous solutions of the sets of equations (models) that describe the performance of solar processes. Example 10.9.1 is a simulation, albeit a simple one amenable to hand calculation. In Chapters 12 through 18, the parametric studies of applications that were presented were developed using simulations. This chapter carries the use of simulations a step further and treats the application of simulations to the design of specific processes.

  • Performance enhancement of a photovoltaic thermal (PVT) and ground-source heat pump system

    摘要: A new system consisting of photovoltaic thermal-ground source heat pump (PV/T-GSHP) was proposed as a solution for electricity shortage and high electricity consumption in heating buildings in Jordan. The performances of the photovoltaic system and the ground source heat pump system were studied without coupling as in real life and with coupling in a hybrid system using TRNSYS software. The results show that this PV/T-GSHP hybrid system can reduce the photovoltaic panels' temperature by more than 20 °C, and improve the e?ciency of electricity production by 9.5 %, simultaneously. And in heating season the average coe?cient of performance of the heat pumps increased from 4.6 to 6.2 with a decreament in electricity consumption by 25.7 %. The life cycle cost of the hybrid system decreased by 3.9 % and the net present value inceased by 13.2 % compared to the two systems separated. The model of the PV/T-GSHP system was established using TRNSYS software, an optimmi-zation was made to select the photovoltaic modules' temperature at which cooling starts, followed by technical and economical studies on both systems separated and coupled in a hybrid system. This hybrid system can provide guidance for future related project.

  • Performance Study on an Unglazed Photovoltaic Thermal Collector Running in Sichuan Basin

    摘要: A performance study with experiments and TRNSYS simulations was conducted for a roll-bond water-type photovoltaic thermal (PVT) collector installed in Chengdu, Sichuan Basin. The measured ambient data and operation data were input to two TRNSYS models and their results were compared. The two numerical models have their own advantages in the simulation of thermal and electrical properties of the PVT collector. By calibrating the models with experimental data, the deviation between the simulated and the measured values was further reduced. In addition, the excellent performance of the roll-bond PVT absorber was also validated by the steady-state test results. However, the long-term system performance is subject to further investigations.

  • Techno-economic analysis of a solar district heating system with seasonal thermal storage in the UK

    摘要: Heat demand in buildings is responsible for around 40% of all energy use in middle to high latitude countries. The combination of district heating systems with solar thermal energy and seasonal thermal energy storage has successfully reduced the carbon intensity of heating in different countries, such as Denmark, Germany and Canada. The potentials of such systems to decarbonise the heat demand in the UK has also been highlighted in different reports. Nevertheless, bottom-up quantitative studies to support or dismissive these potentials are very limited. The quantification can be provided by simulating a solar district heating system using UK-specific inputs, such as heat demand and weather profiles. In this study, a validated simulation model is used to study the performance of solar district heating systems with seasonal thermal storage deployed in the UK. The case study is based on the Drake Landing Solar Community in Okotoks, Canada, which has a relatively high solar fraction. The results show that the system is technically feasible to be implemented in the UK but that it has lower technical performance. A systematic analysis of the influence of the main components on the system performance shows that not only the solar supply and heat demand need to be balanced but also that the long-term storage needs to be appropriately sized. The relatively lower solar fraction could be offset by installing more long-term storage and implementing the system to supply new-built houses with better energy performance rather than the current building stock of older homes. Financially, the system still needs to be supported by encouraging policies to make it competitive with incumbent technologies. The results and the validated model open the possibility to design bespoke solar district heating systems for the UK and other countries in middle to high latitudes.
