  • Fabrication and photocatalytic performance evaluation of hydrodynamic erosion–resistant nano-TiO2–silicone resin composite films

    摘要: Herein, we present the preparation of nano-TiO2–silicone resin composite films by double liquid phase spray deposition. The films exhibit better adhesion stability and photocatalytic activity under a hydrodynamic erosion condition than conventional nano-TiO2 composite films. The TiO2 layer morphology and effective TiO2 coverage ratio (CR) were affected by the initial curing time (ICT) of the silicone resin, e.g., the increase in an ICT from 10 to 40 min resulted in a CR change from 79.1 to 98.7%. The surface morphology evolution of composite films was studied under a hydrodynamic erosion period of 4 weeks. Obtained results allowed the 4-week evolution to be divided into four stages (pitting, crack pregnant, banded stripping, and surface stripping periods), additionally revealed that the CR of all samples was remained above 65%. The photocatalytic activity of composite films before and after 4-week hydrodynamic erosion was evaluated by rhodamine B degradation experiments. The 4-week erosion only led to the decrease of the photodegradation efficiencies by less than 40% in all cases. Thus, the fabricated TiO2–silicone composite films demonstrated excellent durability and photocatalytic activity under the conditions of long-term hydrodynamic erosion, allowing one to conclude that this work paves the way to the fabrication of next-generation photocatalytic materials for industrial applications.

  • Synthesis of cyclo-PLAI using a combination of solid- and solution-phase methods

    摘要: Cyclo-PLAI was successfully synthesized using a combination of solid- and solution-phase methods. This current synthesis was found to be faster than the previously reported synthesis for the cyclic peptide. The linear precursor was synthesized on 2-chlorotrityl resin with Fmoc/t-Bu strategy. HATU/HOAt was employed as the coupling reagent in the amide bond formation on the resin. Cyclization of the linear precursor was experimented with HATU/HOAt reagents with different conditions. However, the linear precursor was best cyclized using HATU reagent in DIPEA by stirring the reaction mixture at 0 °C for 1 h and followed by stirring the reaction mixture at room temperature for 30 min, giving the cyclic product in 70% yield (calculated from the linear peptide). Both linear and cyclic products were characterized using HR-TOF-ESMS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and compared with previously reported spectral data for the cyclic product.

  • [Methods in Molecular Biology] Autophagy Volume 1880 (Methods and Protocols) || Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy to Analyze LC3 Proteins in Caenorhabditis elegans Embryo

    摘要: In this chapter, we present a protocol to perform correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) on Caenorhabditis elegans embryos. We use a specific fixation method which preserves both the GFP fluorescence and the structural integrity of the samples. Thin sections are first analyzed by light microscopy to detect GFP-tagged proteins, then by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to characterize the ultrastructural anatomy of cells. The superimposition of light and electron images allows to determine the subcellular localization of the fluorescent protein. We have used this method to characterize the roles of autophagy in the phagocytosis of apoptotic cells in C. elegans embryos. We analyzed in apoptotic cell and phagocytic cell the localization of the two homologs of LC3/GABARAP proteins, namely, LGG-1 and LGG-2.

  • Stress field around graphene nanoplates coated carbon fiber strand reinforced in polymer matrix

    摘要: Photoelasticity method was used to map the stress field around the graphene nanoplates (GnPs) coated carbon fiber strand reinforced in a polymer matrix. Carbon fiber strand (0.4 mm diameter, containing 40 carbon fibers) was considered. The composite was subjected to diametrical compression. The models were loaded under partial edge compression having 0o, 45o and 90o orientation of fiber strand with respect to loading axis. Typical isochromatic fringe patterns were observed using circular polariscope which indicated that GnPs coated carbon fiber strand inferred the direction of isochromatics. Stress concentration near the fiber region was observed. The isochromatics were slightly bent towards fiber strand which showed the strong adhesion of fiber strand with the polymer matrix. The fringe order calculated from orthotropic Mohr’s circle relevance of fringe order was different from isotropic fringe order. The isochromatic fringe pattern for composite with 0o fiber orientation was almost similar to pure epoxy. This showed that the compressive behavior of fabricated 0o oriented GnPs coated carbon fiber strand composite was almost similar to pure epoxy. The calculated values of stresses at the center of the disc showed that composite with 0o orientation of fiber strand was most effective in stress sharing. The calculation of stress fringe value for 45o orientation of fiber strand showed that aligning fiber strand at 45o doesn’t represent the case of pure shear in fiber reinforced composites.   • Application to Artificial Skin of Double Cone Tube Made of Acrylic Resin Formed by Micro Stereolithography

    摘要: A functional double cone tube (DCT) array with gas trapping and high durability is developed in the application of artificial skin. A stereo-lithography system is employed to fabricate DCT made of acrylic resin. In an aqueous solution, a certain amount of gas can be trapped in the tube due to capillary force balance. Under applying an external load, internal stress is effectively released at the interface between top and base cones. In the tactile sensing investigation, softness and tackiness senses as an artificial skin are felt.

  • Method for Combined Observation of Serial Sections of Stented Arteries Embedded in Resin by Light Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy

    摘要: We have developed a new method for obtaining information on whole tissues by light microscopy (LM) and ultrastructural features by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This method uses serial sections of a stented artery embedded in resin. Stents were implanted in porcine coronary arteries in this study. The heart was perfusion fixed in a 2% paraformaldehyde and 1.25% glutaraldehyde mixed solution. The stented artery was then removed, fixed in 1% osmium, embedded in Quetol 651 resin, and sectioned serially. For LM, the black color of osmium was removed from the section by immersion in periodic acid and hydrogen peroxide after deplasticization. These sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and Elastica–Masson trichrome stain. For TEM, thin sections were re-embedded in Quetol 812 resin by the resupinate method and cut into ultrathin sections. A clear, fine structure was obtained, and organelles, microvilli, and cell junctions in the endothelium were easily observed. The combined observation of adjacent specimens by LM and TEM enabled us to relate histopathological changes in the millimeter scale to those in the nanometer scale.

  • Fabrication of UV-curable solvent-free epoxy modified silicone resin coating with high transparency and low volume shrinkage

    摘要: A type of solvent-free transparent epoxy modified silicone resin coating with high transparency and low volume shrinkage was produced by UV curing method. The features of the UV curing process were studied. The performances of the silicone coating obtained such as transparency, thermal stability and the volume shrinkage were also investigated in detail, which expressed that the materials obtained were with good thermal stability, good adhesive ability and fairly low volume shrinkage.

    摘要: Denture implanted RFID tag antennas in the UHF band is presented. The measured input impedances of the antennas in the human body phantom are presented and the conjugate matching condition between the antennas and the RFID chip are evaluated. As a result, the conjugate reflection coefficient of -21 dB between the tag antenna and a RFID chip is obtained at 920 MHz.

  • Effect of the photoactivation method on composite resin cure.

    摘要: For composite resins to obtain good properties, they must present a high degree of conversion and minimal polymerization contraction. To minimize this contraction, alternative photoactivation techniques have been suggested. The objective of this study was to compare the hardness of a photoactivated composite resin using the pulse-delay, soft start and conventional techniques, in thicknesses of 1, 2 and 3 mm in the irradiated surface and in the opposite surface. Photoactivation was performed with halogen light for 20 seconds in the conventional and soft start techniques. In the pulse-delay technique, each increment of 1 mm was photoactivated for 3 seconds with a final photoactivation of 40 seconds. The samples were stored in an oven at 37°C for one week and submitted to the Vickers microhardness test. The results were submitted to ANOVA and the Tukey’s test with a level of significance of 5%. It was concluded that the hardness was higher with photoactivation of 40 seconds, and for the techniques that had the photoactivation time of 20 seconds (conventional and soft start), there was no difference in terms of hardness. Therefore, the hardness is not influenced by the technique, but rather, by the polymerization time.

    摘要: Optical interconnect has attracted much attention as a possible solution to solve the bottleneck of conventional electric interconnect for realizing high bit rate transmission network. The optical interconnect requires high efficiency and easy optical coupling between optical wiring and optical fibers. Especially in these days, expansion of single mode fiber in optical interconnect and silicon photonics (SiPh) devices requires new coupling scheme between these devices. In this paper, we propose a novel coupling device which is composed with a microlens and a pillar having about 10?m diameter on the end face of SMF. This is fabricated by using self-written waveguide (SWW) method with UV-curable resin.
