Error correction for short-range optical interconnect using COTS transceivers
摘要: Nowadays, quantities of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) optical transceivers are widely equipped in both exiting and abuilding data centers. As data centers are becoming larger and containing more servers, the method to ensure longer and steady transmission with COTS optical transceivers becomes one of the key issues. Meanwhile, variations in the manufacturing of COTS optical transceivers bring in fluctuation of packet error rate (PER) in communication. In this paper, we present an application layer adaptive forward error correction (AL-AFEC) coding scheme for COTS optical transceivers in optical interconnect to solve the problems mentioned above and test its performance in a 10 Gbps Ethernet (10GbE) link using 10GBASE-SR SFP+ modules. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme enables longer transmission distance and the instability introduced by manufactural variations is well settled. Since our scheme requires no extra hardware on optical transceivers, it is a considerable low-cost alternative to improve system reliability and achieve longer transmission distance for COTS optical transceivers.

Automatic determination of vertical cup-to-disc ratio in retinal fundus images for glaucoma screening
摘要: Glaucoma is a chronic progressive optic neuropathy that causes visual impairment or blindness, if left untreated. It is crucial to diagnose it at an early stage in order to enable treatment. Fundus photography is a viable option for population-based screening. A fundus photograph enables the observation of the excavation of the optic disc - the hallmark of glaucoma. The excavation is quanti?ed as vertical cup-to-disc ratio (VCDR). The manual assessment of retinal fundus images is, however, time-consuming and costly. Thus, an automated system is necessary to assist human observers. We propose a computer aided diagnosis system, which consists of localization of the optic disc, determination of the height of the optic disc and the cup, and computation of the VCDR. We evaluated the performance of our approach on eight publicly available data sets, which have in total 1712 retinal fundus images. We compared the obtained VCDR values with those provided by an experienced ophthalmologist and achieved a weighted VCDR mean difference of 0.11. The system provides a reliable estimation of the height of the optic disc and the cup in terms of the Relative Height Error (RHE = 0.08 and 0.09, respectively). Bland-Altman analysis showed that the system achieves a good agreement with the manual annotations especially for large VCDRs, which indicate pathology.

Rejection of Spoof SPPs Using the Second Resonant Mode of Vertical Split-Ring Resonator
摘要: In this letter, the studies of the vertical split-ring resonator (VSRR) at its second resonant mode are carried out for the first time. The VSRR can be regarded as an electric resonator at such resonant mode, which is proven by its resonant current distribution. Then, a new type of rejection plasmonic filter is constructed by adding the VSRR on the planar spoof surface plasmon polariton (SPP) waveguide using double-side corrugated metallic strips. The second resonance of the VSRR is excited by the z-component of the electric field of the spoof SPP mode, near which the SPP propagation is prevented. Utilizing this principle, a plasmonic filter with broadband rejection is designed and fabricated. The measurement result is presented to confirm the highly efficient filtering performance of the proposed filter, which makes it possible to be applied in the advanced integrated plasmonic devices and circuits at microwave and terahertz frequencies.

Sharp phase-separated interface of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene/polystyrene blend films prepared by electrostatic spray deposition
摘要: In this study, organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on blend films comprising 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS pentacene) and polystyrene (PS) were fabricated. The blend films were prepared by electrostatic spray deposition (ESD). A vertically phase-separated structure (TIPS pentacene (top)/PS (bottom)) can be spontaneously formed without additional treatments such as solvent-vapor annealing, which is significantly different from the blend with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Due to the sharp phase-separated interface, OFETs based on the TIPS pentacene/PS blend films exhibited superior characteristics and operational stability.

To validate the approach, we research in detail a prospective base station operating in EU-assigned band (3.4-3.8 GHz) of 5G networks, which has easy-to-configure layout using the same cost- and power-efficient LW-VCSEL in downlink and uplink channels and direct modulation of LW-VCSEL in period-doubling state.

A review on smart application of supplemental lighting in greenhouse fruiting vegetable production
摘要: Different spectra of light trigger different plant growth processes. Therefore, the optimum light spectrum for various plant physiological and growth processes may be different. For greenhouse fruiting vegetables, such as tomatoes, it is important to optimize light spectrum to promote canopy growth to increase light interception during the early stage of plant growth. Once the plants reach full canopy, the focus should be moved to optimizing vertical light distribution because most greenhouse fruiting vegetables are tall crops and the growth processes along the vertical profile are different; most of the canopy growth occurs in the top and middle canopy while fruit growth occurs in the middle and bottom canopy. Because the fruit, not the leaf, is the economic product, the optimized light spectral composition should enhance leaf carbon export and translocation to fruit to improve fruit yield and quality. Therefore, a research project was initiated in 2013 to identify proper light spectral composition and vertical distribution regimes for greenhouse fruiting vegetable production. Different overhead light sources (high-pressure sodium light with or without far-red light-emitting diode (LED) light, plasma light and different spectral compositions of LEDs) and several intra-canopy spectral compositions provided by LEDs were evaluated over four winters on tomatoes, mini-cucumbers and sweet peppers. The effects of light spectrum on whole-plant net carbon exchange and leaf carbon export using 14C-isotype tracing were also investigated. The vertical light regimes resulted in significant differences in leaf photosynthetic rate, leaf size, fruit yield and fruit quality in greenhouse tomatoes, mini-cucumbers and sweet peppers. Proper vertical light regimes were identified for hybrid light systems (overhead high intensity discharge light + intra-canopy LEDs) and for pure LED light systems (overhead + intra-canopy LEDs). This review clearly demonstrates that optimized vertical light regimes can be developed for improving both plant growth and fruit yield and quality in year-round greenhouse fruiting vegetable production.

Research on the defect types transformation induced by growth temperature of vertical graphene nanosheets
摘要: The in?uence factors on the defect types in vertical graphene nanosheets (VGNs) are widely researched while few systematic research has been reported on the growth temperature, which should play an important role in the transformation of defects types. In this work, VGNs were grown via plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method in the atmosphere of CH4, H2 and Ar. Based on SEM, Raman, XPS, NEXAFS and UPS spectrum analysis, we found that the types of defects in VGNs have clearly transformed from vacancy-like to boundary-like, corresponding to the rising growth temperature. Moreover, NEXAFS suggests that features near 7.7 eV are attributed to boundary-like defects, as well as (cid:1)6.7 eV in UPS, providing an intuitive and half-quantitative direction to characterize boundary-like defects in VGNs. Additionally, the sheet resistance (from 1386 to 175 Ohm/Sq) and the wetting angle (from 148(cid:3) to 121(cid:3)) decrease as the temperature rises. It shows that changing the growth temperature, as the easy and effective method, is crucial of modulating the properties of VGNs owning to the transition of defects types from vacancy-like to boundary-like.

Synthesis of 2-methyl-5-(5-phenyl substituted-1,3,4 oxadiazole-2-yl) quinazolin-4-one fluorescent brightening agent: Computational and experimental comparison of photophysical structure
摘要: Report is about the synthesized new range of oxadiazole substituted quinazoline and studied its electronic distribution to attribute fluorescent properties. B3LYP Density Functional Theory (DFT) computational optimization was studied to observe the effect of electron donor and acceptor substituent's on photophysical properties, electronic state and energy level. DFT computational optimization was performed by Polarizable Continuum Model (PCM) of solvation strictly in the gas phase and DMF maintaining C1 symmetry in ground state geometry structure. UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopic methods help in understanding the relationship between the electron donor and acceptor functional groups on the photophysical properties. Eventually comparing experimental spectral emission and DFT computations were envisage understanding the changes of the electronic transition, energy levels, and electronic orbital distribution in the substituted quinazoline structure. These compounds have good fluorescent brightening properties hence studied and applied as fluorescent brightening agent on polyester fiber.

Microscopic-Stress-Induced Retardation between amorphous silicon nitride and amorphous indium zinc oxide having different stresses
摘要: It is very important to increase the contrast ratio in liquid crystal display (LCD) TV using polymer-stabilized vertical alignment (PS-VA) mode. The luminance of the black state is greatly reduced by changing the parameters of the polarizer, the color filter, and the liquid crystal. However, these have the side effect of reducing the characteristics such as the transmittance, the response time, and the viewing angle. In this paper, the luminance of the black state can be reduced by lowering the stress induced retardation at the edge of pixel electrode without changing the materials in the PS-VA mode. It has been shown for the first time that the stress difference in the heterogeneous layers such as amorphous indium zinc oxide (a-IZO) and amorphous silicon nitride (a-SiNx) can optically create birefringence in the microscopic region. By controlling the stress difference in the heterogeneous membrane, the microscopic-stress-induced retardation (MSIR) could be lowered and the contrast ratio of the PS-VA mode could be increased up to 10%.

High-voltage regrown nonpolar m-plane vertical p-n diodes: A step toward future selective-area-doped power switches
摘要: We report high-voltage regrown nonpolar m-plane p-n diodes on freestanding GaN substrates. Secondary-ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) measurements indicate O and Si spikes at the regrowth interfaces with maximum concentration ~ 5×1017 cm-3, which is similar to previously published c-plane studies. A high blocking voltage of 540 V at ~ 1 mA/cm2 (corresponding to an electric field of E ~ 3.35 MV/cm), turn-on voltages between 2.9-3.1 V, specific on-resistance of 1.7 mΩ.cm2 at 300 A/cm2, and a minimum ideality factor of 1.7 were obtained for the regrown diodes. Our results suggest that Si, O and C interfacial impurity levels up to 2×1017 cm-3, 8×1017 cm-3, and 1×1019 cm-3, respectively, at the metallurgical junction of m-plane p-n diodes do not result in very early breakdown in the reverse bias, although the off-state leakage current in forward bias is affected. The impact of growth interruption/regrowth on diode performance is also investigated.
