  • Widely 70-nm wavelength tunability single-frequency erbium laser utilizing multiple-ring architecture

    摘要: In this paper, to accomplish the broadly wavelength tunability and single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) operation of erbium-doped fiber (EDF) based laser, the multiple-ring structure is designed and executed. The output power of ?7.3 to 5.1 dBm and optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) of 31.5 to 36.7 dB/0.06 nm are obtained for the proposed EDF laser over the tuning range of 1520.0–1590.0 nm based on the C-band EDF gain medium. In addition, the Lorentzian linewidth of 14.9 to 20.4 kHz is also attained.

  • Wavelength-Turnable Organic Micro-ring Laser Arrays from Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Emitters

    摘要: Organic solid-state lasers (OSSLs) have been paid great attention due to their ease-of-fabrication, low cost and tailor-made molecular tunability. Optical gain materials of OSSLs are currently focused on fluorescent materials, which can bring only 25% exciton utilization for future current-injection OSSLs due to spin statics under electrical excitation. While thermally active delayed fluorescent (TADF) materials can obtain a theoretical 100% internal quantum efficiency by harvesting triplet excitons. However, OSSLs based on TADF materials remain largely unexplored yet. Here, we report the first TADF-based OSSL from whispering-gallery mode micro-ring resonator arrays fabricated by a confined solution-growth method. The newly designed TADF emitter of carbozyl borondifluoride curcuminoid derivative, namely, CAZ-A, when doped into a host matrix of 4,4'-bis(N-carbazolyl)-1,10-biphenyl (CBP), reaches the highest gain-coefficient of 640 cm-1 at 4 wt%. These MRs with well-controlled sizes and uniform geometries constitute a high quality (cavity quality factor Q ~ 1300) built-in WGM resonators and exhibit outstanding multi-mode laser behaviors. By varying TADF molecule doping concentration, the laser wavelength can be continuously tuned in the red spectral range from 650 nm to 725 nm. As CBP is usually used as the host material for active layers in OLEDs, we believe that CAZ-A/CBP doping material is good candidate for future electrically driven OSSLs.

    摘要: Generating energetic, few-cycle laser pulses with stabilized Carrier-Envelope Phase at high repetition rate constitutes a first step to access the ultra-fast dynamics underlying the interaction of matter with intense, ultrashort pulses in attosecond science or high field physics [1-3]. We present here a Ti:Sa based, CEP-stabilized, sub-20fs, 1 kHz / 10 kHz hybrid laser system with an original front-end design, delivering 0.9 TW peak power pulses at 1 kHz and close to 20W average power at 10 kHz. In parallel to this short pulse duration operation mode, it is possible to use the front end to tune its output wavelength within a 90 nm range around 800 nm.

    摘要: Optical vortices with a ring-shaped spatial form and an orbital angular momentum (OAM) of ?φ, arising from their helical wavefronts characterized by an azimuthal phase, exp(i?φ) (where ? is an integer termed the topological charge), have been widely exploiting a variety of research fields. These include optical trapping and manipulation, fluorescent microscopes with a high spatial resolution beyond the diffraction limit and materials processing. The aforementioned applications strongly desire wavelength-tunability and OAM-versatility to optical vortex sources. In this presentation, we report on the first generation of a signal output having multiple up-converted OAM states with ?(cid:3046) =3~5 (higher OAM than that of pump) from a nanosecond 2nd-order vortex (?(cid:3043) = 2) pumped singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with a simple compact cavity configuration. The resulting idler exhibited negative OAM states with ?(cid:3036) =-1~-3.

  • Wavelength-Tunable Band-Edge Photoluminescence of Nonstoichiometric Ag–In–S Nanoparticles via Ga <sup>3+</sup> Doping

    摘要: The nonstoichiometry of I?III?VI semiconductor nanoparticles, especially the ratio of group I to group III elements, has been utilized to control their physicochemical properties. We report the solution-phase synthesis of non-stoichiometric Ag?In?S and Ag?In?Ga?S nanoparticles and results of the investigation of their photoluminescence (PL) properties in relation to their chemical compositions. While stoichiometric AgInS2 nanoparticles simply exhibited only a broad PL band originating from defect sites in the particles, a narrow band edge PL peak newly appeared with a decrease in the Ag fraction in the nonstoichiometric Ag?In?S nanoparticles. The relative PL intensity of this band edge emission with respect to the defect-site emission was optimal at a Ag/(Ag + In) value of ca. 0.4. The peak wavelength of the band edge emission was tunable from 610 to 500 nm by increased doping with Ga3+ into Ag?In?S nanoparticles due to an increase of the energy gap. Furthermore, surface coating of Ga3+-doped Ag?In?S nanoparticles, that is, Ag?In?Ga?S nanoparticles, with a GaSx shell drastically and selectively suppressed the broad defect-site PL peak and, at the same time, led to an increase in the PL quantum yield (QY) of the band edge emission peak. The optimal PL QY was 28% for Ag?In?Ga?S@GaSx core?shell particles, with green band-edge emission at 530 nm and a full width at half-maximum of 181 meV (41 nm). The observed wavelength tunability of the band-edge PL peak will facilitate possible use of these toxic-element-free I?III?VI-based nanoparticles in a wide area of applications.

  • Grant-sizing-differentiated bandwidth allocation algorithm for the coexistence of ONUs with and without wavelength tunability in WDM/TDM PONs

    摘要: Adopting the pay-as-you-grow approach to upgrade passive optical network (PON) facilities by WDM technology insures the smoothness of the upgrade, and also results in the coexistence of wavelength-fixed/tunable optical network units (ONUs) in WDM/TDM PONs. Dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) is the key to support such coexistence of heterogeneous ONUs. Thus, DBA is also the key to support the smooth evolution of PONs. To more fairly coordinate the bandwidth allocation among the coexisting heterogeneous ONUs, a differentiated grant sizing (DGS) scheme is proposed. In DGS, not only the fairness between the wavelength-fixed/tunable ONUs but also the fairness between the lightly/heavily loaded ONUs is taken into account. To further carry out load balancing among wavelengths, a grant scheduling scheme is also proposed to cooperate with the grant sizing scheme. In the grant scheduling scheme, a measure of the ONUs’ flexibility is given, and then the least flexible job first rule (LFJF) is adopted for joint wavelength and time-slot assignment. Finally, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a series of comparative analyses is conducted based on simulation experiments.

  • SPR based fiber optic sensor using IMO thin film: towards wide wavelength tunability from visible to NIR

    摘要: Due to existence of free electrons, conducting metal oxides (CMOs) such as indium molybdenum oxide, can support surface plasmon resonance (SPR) at the interface of CMO and the dielectric. This research provides first theoretically implementation of Indium molybdenum oxide (IMO) as plasmonic layer in SPR fiber optic sensor. We demonstrate how changing the oxygen contents during IMO layer deposition could tune the operational wavelength of sensing probe in a wide range from visible to NIR which has a great significance in many biological and chemical environmental applications. Moreover, sensitivity and figure of merit of the proposed sensor have been calculated and compared for IMO thin films prepared at different oxygen contents.
