  • Design of Microstrip Bandpass Filters Based on Stair-Step Patch Resonator

    摘要: In this research article, single pole bandpass filter using stair-step patch topology based on symmetrical and asymmetrical step impedance resonators has been designed for industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band application. This filter has been modeled by Microwave Office simulator using RT/Duroid substrate constant of 10.8, the substrate thickness of 1.27mm, loss tangent of 0.0023 and copper metallization thickness of 0.035 mm. To enhance the stopband levels of filter response, two microstrip bandpass filters have been designed as two-pole configurations based on edge, and cross-coupled stair-step patch resonators using the same simulator tool and substrate specifications. The proposed filters have compact sizes of (0.311λ(cid:2917)(cid:2925) x 0.233λ(cid:2917)(cid:2925)) for single pole filter, (0.578λ(cid:2917)(cid:2925) x 0.24λ(cid:2917)(cid:2925) )for two-pole edge coupled filter and (0.566λ(cid:2917)(cid:2925) x 0.234λ(cid:2917)(cid:2925))for two-pole cross-coupled filter designed at center frequencies of 2.4, 2.46 and 2.41 GHz respectively. These filters have interesting insertion loss and return loss magnitudes, narrow band frequency responses, second harmonic suppression and good stopband levels. Apart from ISM band applications, the proposed filters can be adopted in WLAN systems and Bluetooth applications for short range devices. The experimental results for designed filters are of good consistency with the simulations.

  • Tri-post resonator in a rectangular waveguide

    摘要: A novel three-in-one waveguide resonator is proposed in the paper. The resonator is composed of three rectangular partial-height posts inserted along a rectangular waveguide cross-section. A pair of posts is mounted symmetrically whereas the third antipodal post is centered. The resonator provides a bandstop response if all the posts are of equal height. Both singlet-type and pseudoelliptic characteristics are achieved if one of the posts differs by its height. Both symmetric and asymmetric configurations are considered. Besides, it is demonstrated that the asymmetric resonator acts as a switching waveguide filter providing the ON and the OFF states to allow/block the signal propagation in a narrow vicinity of a given frequency. A parametric numerical study is performed in order to demonstrate a transformation of the response Measurement data are presented for a single-standing resonator and a two-section pseudoelliptic filter in WR90 waveguide.

  • Compact Wideband Hybrid Filters in Rectangular Waveguide With Enhanced Out-of-Band Response

    摘要: This article describes the design procedure of a compact wideband waveguide filter, based on stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) and a combined usage of capacitive and inductive coupling irises, that provides a significant improvement in the out-of-band response of the filter with respect to the state-of-the-art. In addition to theory, several filter prototypes have been designed and manufactured. A detailed sensitivity analysis has also been carried out. Finally, simulations and measurements are compared, showing very good agreement, thereby fully validating the new filter topology.

  • Variable location channels to improve efficiency and precision for direct ? <i>T</i> <sub/><i>e</i> </sub> measurements and high spatial resolution <i>T</i> <sub/><i>e</i> </sub> -profile measurements using electron cyclotron emission

    摘要: Electron cyclotron emission (ECE) diagnostics that use variable location channels based on yttrium iron garnet (YIG) bandpass filters improve the precision and the efficiency of measurements of electron temperature (Te) profiles and fluctuations (δTe). These variable frequency filters were substituted for fixed frequency filters in the intermediate frequency section to achieve the required higher resolution over a target radial range, just before the experiment. Here, we present the proof-of-principle for high temporal resolution measurement of the electron temperature gradient, via real-time slewing of a YIG filter for relocation of an ECE channel during a long pulse. The key component is the application of YIG tunable filters with their narrow bandwidth and capability for a high slew rate of their center frequency. This application permits fast relocation of the ECE channels for direct measurement of the gradient and close spacing of channels to investigate the magnetic island’s dynamic behavior.

    摘要: Zero-contrast grating filters (ZCG) car be used to implement efficient bandpass transmission filter with narrow bandwidths of a few nanometers. In a precedent article [1], we have illustrated the validity of the ZCG approach for the mid-IR range using germanium and calcium fluoride, as well as the possibility to increase both the bandwidth and the angular acceptance of such filters by a decade or more using a double corrugation scheme for the grating. However, when it comes to fabricating such devices, conventional semiconductor methods cannot be straightforwardly applied because of the specific requirements of the infrared materials used. Adapting specific methods of the semiconductor industry, we manage to fabricate such devices. A first optical characterization is performed.

  • BANDPASS FILTERS WITH IMPROVED SELECTIVITY BASED ON DUAL-MODE RING RESONATORS

    摘要: Two novel microstrip bandpass ?lters with improved selectivity based on dual-mode ring resonators are proposed. Tow and four transmission zeros close to the passband are realized to improve the selectivity for the passband. Sixth-order passband is realized with two open/shorted stubs and a dual-mode ring resonator. The transmission zeros near the passband can be adjusted conveniently by changing the characteristic impedances of the coupled lines. For demonstration, two planar bandpass ?lters (3-dB bandwidths 20.9%, 20.2%) are designed and fabricated.

  • Compact Balanced Single-Band and Dual-Band BPFs with Controllable Bandwidth Using FoldedS-Shaped Slotline Resonators (FSSRs)

    摘要: In this paper, two compact balanced bandpass filters (BPFs) using half-wavelength folded S-shaped slotline resonators (FSSRs) are designed. The proposed FSSR is realized by extending and folding a traditional S-shaped slotline resonator, which can affect the internal coupling of resonator and reduce the size of the resonator. The balanced stepped-impedance microstrip-slotline transition structures are employed to generate a wideband common-mode (CM) suppression. The proposed filters can realize a single-band differential-mode (DM) bandpass response or a dual-band one by employing one or three FSSRs, respectively. Moreover, the center frequencies of the DM passbands are independent from the CM responses, which can simplify the designs procedure significantly. In order to validate their practicability, a compact balanced dual-band BPF with controllable center frequencies and bandwidths is fabricated and good agreement between the simulated and measured results is observed.

  • Remote Controlling of Light Intensity Using Phone Devices

    摘要: In this study, we investigate the design and simulation of an electronic system for remote controlling the level of light intensity of an electrical lighting system used for a certain desired application. The remote controlling is done using the keypad of any Dual Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF) based telephone handset. A DTMF tone command sent from a transmitting fixed or mobile phone terminal will be used to activate a system of relays that control the required level of light intensity. An appropriate active bandpass filters are designed for recognition of the DTMF tones of the transmitted digit. The bandpass filters and the additional subsequent stages of the overall electronic system are simulated and tested using MULTISM. Light intensity controlling is useful to avoid unnecessary electrical power wastage and the remote controlling eliminates the physical presence of a person for adjusting the required level of lighting at the desired location.

  • COMPACT HIGH-SELECTIVITY DUAL/TRI-BAND BANDPASS FILTERS FOR WLAN APPLICATIONS

    摘要: This paper presents compact dual/tri-band bandpass ?lters (BPFs) with controllable frequency and high selectivity for WLAN applications. A stepped impedance resonator with a shorting stub and a uniform impedance resonator with an open stub are applied in the designs. Several techniques that can generate transmission zeros are combined to improve the frequency selectivity. The resonators and the proposed ?lters are characterized by full-wave simulations. To validate the design strategies, a dual-band BPF centered at 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz was ?rst designed. With a minor modi?cation, a tri-band BPF centered at 2.4 GHz, 5.2 GHz and 5.8 GHz was then developed. Both simulations and measurements were carried out to demonstrate the e?ectiveness of the designs. Good agreements are achieved.
