摘要: A compact LIS-band circularly polarized (CP) antenna over the reactive impedance surface (RIS) is designed, fabricated, and measured. This dual-band CP antenna is excited by two probes and fed by two grounded coplanar waveguides. The CP radiation with very compact antenna size is achieved by stacking a square ring slotted truncated corner square patch and a truncated corner square patch over the RIS. The measured results show that the 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of the antenna is 0.9% (1.787-1.803 GHz) for the lower band and 1.1% (2.685-2.715 GHz) for the upper band, while the 10-dB return loss bandwidth is 5.9% (1.746-1.852 GHz) and 7.3% (2.586-2.784 GHz), respectively. The antenna gain at boresight is 1.9 dBic for the lower band, and 1.94 dBic for the upper band. The overall volume of the dual-band CP antenna is 0.235 x 0.235 x 0.042λ at 1.765 GHz.

A Low-cost Ka-band Circularly Polarized Passive Phased-Array Antenna for Mobile Satellite Applications
摘要: This paper presents a low-profile, high-performance, and low-cost Ka-band circularly polarized (CP) passive phased-array antenna (PAA) system. A 1 × 4 passive sub-array operating at the Ka-band frequency band is investigated, developed, and tested as a possible building block for mobile satellite communication systems. In particular, a CP antenna integrated with a high-performance passive phase shifter is presented and experimentally verified. A new low-cost and low-profile magnetic actuator is proposed to precisely control the phase state of the phase shifter. A 3-D printed polymer package is utilized to enclose the phase shifter and reduce the environmental effects. The proposed CP passive PAA achieves high performance right hand circularly polarized (RHCP) radiation with high cross-polarization discrimination over a wide scan angle from 0o to ±38o over the frequency band (29.5-30.5 GHz). An AR < 3dB is demonstrated over the entire scanning range. Moreover, the measured radiation efficiency is 60% at bore-sight. The gain drops by 1 dB at ±38o scanning angles.

The Design of Dual Circularly Polarized Series-Fed Arrays
摘要: This paper presents the design of dual circularly polarized (CP) series-fed arrays based on Sequential rotation (SR) technique with uniform radiation elements. The radiation elements and feeding network used in the array are uniform, which leads to the possibility of dual-CP radiation by series-fed SR arrays. Meanwhile, the elements radiate unequal powers due to this arrangement. The relationship between the axial ratio (AR) and four key parameters of the array is derived and thoroughly discussed. Good polarization purity and port isolation can be realized by optimizing these parameters. A dual-CP array working at 10 GHz is designed with the help of the analysis. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna has good properties.

Design and Characterization of Wideband Aperture-Coupled Circularly Polarized Antenna for Gigabits Per Second Wireless Communication System
摘要: In this paper, design and characterization of an aperture-coupled circularly polarized (CP) rectangular patch antenna suitable for Gigabit per second wireless communications system is presented. The proposed antenna exhibits a large bandwidth of 2.77 GHz at centre frequency fc = 19.5 GHz (about 15% of fractional bandwidth (FBW)). It also has a gain of about 7.25 dBi at 18 GHz with good stable gain and radiation characteristics in the frequency band of interest. For indoor wireless channel measurements, two developed prototypes are employed as single input single output transmit receive (TX–RX) antennas with a robust and versatile channel modeling system. We demonstrate a measurement campaign to investigate the dynamic range of the system by calculating path loss. The pulse dispersion effect is quantified by pulse fidelity factor (PFF). The measurements are performed in laboratory environment using Gaussian pulse based sounding signal modulated at 19.3 GHz carrier frequency. The design and characterization of compact size antennas with pertinent bandwidth and excellent radiation characteristics is one of our initiatives towards developing a millimeter wave (MMW) test bed system for channel modeling and measurement, since 5G wireless communication is supposed to operate in MMW band.

Compatible Integration of Circularly Polarized Omnidirectional Metasurface Antenna with Solar Cells
摘要: A low-profile circularly polarized (CP) omnidirectional metasurface antenna is developed and integrated with solar cells. The proposed metasurface consists of an array of 4×4 square rings. Square solar cells are mounted inside each square ring. Characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is used to analyze the modal behavior of the metasurface. The results demonstrate that the solar cells inside the square rings have a slight influence on the metasurface antenna. This arrangement not only enables total exposure of the solar cells to sunlight but also exhibits no degradation of performance of the antenna. Then, by using a proper feeding structure to excite the selected modes, the CP omnidirectional radiation pattern is realized. The proposed antenna, with and without solar cells, is fabricated and measured. The results demonstrate that the proposed antenna with and without solar cells realizes a similar impedance bandwidth and a similar CP bandwidth. Furthermore, the radiation efficiencies of the metasurface antennas with and without solar cells are similar.

Broadband Circularly Polarized Filtering Antennas
摘要: This paper consists of two parts. The first part presents a review of the recent development in broadband circularly polarized filtering antennas. The second part presents a novel design of broadband integrated filtering antenna based on eighth-mode SIW (EMSIW) resonators for rectenna applications. This work has three main novel contributions: (i) By adjusting the external quality factors and coupling coefficients of the resonators in this filtering antenna, optimum input impedance with a complex value can be realized within the filtering antenna. Thus there is no need for an external impedance matching network, which is usually required between the antenna and the rectifying circuits; (ii) Compared with traditional microstrip resonators, high-Q EMSIW cavities are used to increase antenna gain; (iii) The coupling gap between the EMSIW resonators also acts as the feeding structure of the radiator. So the feeding structures are all on the middle layer. The ground plane on the back side is a complete structure without any defects. This novel structure design improves front-to-back ratio to enhance the antenna receiving efficiency. To validate this method, two C-band circularly polarized integrated filtering antennas with an input impedance of 50 Ω and complex impedance are designed, simulated and fabricated. The measured results show that the operating frequency bandwidth of the proposed antennas is more than 14.5% at C band with the gain above 8 dBi. The 3 dB Axial Ratio (AR) bandwidth is larger than 8.5% and the front-to-back ratio is higher than 18 dB. Moreover, the proposed antenna with complex impedance is conjugate matched with the input impedance of a specific rectifying circuit at 5.8 GHz and harmonics suppression at the 2nd harmonic frequency is achieved.

Wideband circularly polarized antenna with end shorting vias and inverted L-shaped slots
摘要: In this paper, we present a new wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna. It has two parts, the first part is a circular ground plane with curved branches, and the second one is a circular patch with curved branches and inverted L-shaped slots. We could obtain a wideband of impedance and axial ratio (AR) through commending inverted L-shaped slots on the patch and loading end shorting vias at the corresponding ends of the arced branches in the patch and ground plane. The realized antenna has a dimension of 43 × 43 × 3.2 mm3, equals to 0.73λ0 × 0.73λ0 × 0.054λ0 (λ0 is the wavelength at the minimum frequency). The tested results illustrated that the impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidth are 26.98% (5.29–6.94 GHz) and 25.33% (5–6.45 GHz), respectively. The results of the actual test are basically adjacent with the simulated one.

摘要: This paper proposes a novel design of a wideband compact circularly polarized circular antenna array for satellite TV reception. The circular array is based on a wideband circularly polarized spiral antenna element which has excellent impedance matching (VSWR ≤ 1.5) and axial ratio bandwidths for the satellite-to-ground downlink at Ku-band from 11.7-12.7 GHz. A 16-element circular sub-array is presented with a fixed 23° electronically steered beam upwards which is appropriate for Astra satellite communications in the UK. Furthermore, circular sub-arrays with different numbers of elements (8, 16, 24, 32 and, 40) are also studied. It is shown that the circular antenna array is particularly suitable for satellite TV reception while being vertically mounted on a wall because of its low profile, broadband and electronically steered beam.

摘要: A compact omnidirectional circular polarization (CP) antenna is presented. The antenna consists a top-loaded cylindrical monopole and a modified circular ground plane with extended curved branches. Vertical and horizontal polarized field components are generated through the monopole and extended curved branch of ground, respectively. With a size of 0.241..0*0.241..0*0.121..0, the antenna exhibits a lO-dB impedance bandwidth of 3.9% from 1.54 to 1.61 GHz and a 3-dB axial-ratio (AR) bandwidth of 7.5% from 1.52 to 1.62GHz in the horizontal plane. The measured average axial ratio and left-hand CP (LHCP) gain at 1.561 GHz are 2 dB and 1.4 dBi, respectively, in the horizontal plane.
