[IEEE IGARSS 2018 - 2018 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - Valencia (2018.7.22-2018.7.27)] IGARSS 2018 - 2018 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - Coastal Application of Sea Surface Height Measurement Using Direct Broadcast Satellite Signals
摘要: This paper presents results from a proof-of-concept experiment conducted at Platform Harvest to measure Sea Surface Height (SSH) using Ku- and K-band 'Signals of Opportunity' (SoOp) from DirecTV Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) system. The retrieved SSH was compared with the SSH measurement from a tide gauge located at the platform; the error in retrieval of Ku-band and K-band was found to be 2.78 cm and 2.58 cm, respectively. This matched the model for error with some differences that can be attributed to the difference in spatial and temporal characteristics of the SoOp and tide gauge measurements. Finally, this paper gives an overview of temporal and spatial sampling possible from a constellation of receivers observing Ku-band SoOp to resolve mesoscale eddies in coastal regions.

摘要: Altimetry-derived sea surface heights (SSH) from the recently launched Jason-3 and Sentinel-3A missions were validated against records from seven tide gauges located along the French Atlantic coast in the southern Bay of Biscay. Comparisons between Jason-2 and Jason-3 based SSH were performed along-track when they were orbiting 80 seconds apart during the tandem mission that lasted more than six months. The benefits of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) acquisition mode on Sentinel-3A is compared to the classical Low Resolution Mode (LRM) on Jason-2 and 3 missions are analyzed.

摘要: HY-2A satellite is the first ocean dynamic environmental satellite in China, and the radar altimeter onboard is a land-compatible one, which is particularly suitable for the coastal applications. In this paper, the first attempt to apply HY-2A altimetry data in a coastal zone is carried out offshore Hong Kong. The HY-2A waveforms are extracted and retracked, and two approaches are employed to improve the retracking performance: the sub-waveform technology and singular value decomposition (SVD) method. The results are pretty encouraging, indicating the potential of HY-2A satellite altimetry in coastal applications.
