Wide Bandgap Phase Change Material Tuned Visible Photonics
摘要: Light strongly interacts with structures that are of a similar scale to its wavelength, typically nanoscale features for light in the visible spectrum. However, the optical response of these nanostructures is usually fixed during the fabrication. Phase change materials offer a way to tune the properties of these structures in nanoseconds. Until now, phase change active photonics has used materials that strongly absorb visible light, which limits their application in the visible spectrum. In contrast, Sb2S3 is an underexplored phase change material with a bandgap that can be tuned in the visible spectrum from 2.0 to 1.7 eV. This tuneable bandgap is deliberately coupled to an optical resonator such that it responds dramatically in the visible spectrum to Sb2S3 reversible structural phase transitions. It is shown that this optical response can be triggered both optically and electrically. High-speed reprogrammable Sb2S3 based photonic devices, such as those reported here, are likely to have wide applications in future intelligent photonic systems, holographic displays, and microspectrometers.

Color-tunable and upconversion luminescence of Gd2O2S:Er,Tm phosphor: experimental investigations and first-principles calculation
摘要: The Er3+, Tm3+ co-doped gadolinium oxysulfide phosphors were prepared using solid-state reaction in vacuum. The crystal structure, morphology, and photoluminescence characteristics were, respectively, investigated by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, upconversion luminescence spectra and Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage diagram. Under 980 nm excitation, the quenching concentration of Er3+ was revealed to be 7 mol% with highest luminescence intensity and fluorescence lifetime. The emitting color of Gd2O2S:Er,Tm phosphors can be tuned by adjusting the concentration of Er3+ and Tm3+. First-principles calculation was employed to clarify the luminescence mechanism of the impurities doped in gadolinium oxysulfide host lattice by calculated band structure, density of states and absorption spectrum.

Cardiomyocyte-Driven Structural Color Actuation in Anisotropic Inverse Opals
摘要: Biohybrid actuators composed of living tissues and artificial materials have attracted increasing interest in recent years because of their extraordinary function of dynamically sensing and interacting with complex bioelectrical signals. Here, a compound biohybrid actuator with self-driven actuation and self-reported feedback is designed based on an anisotropic inverse opal substrate with periodical elliptical macropores and a hydrogel filling. The benefit of the anisotropic surface topography and high biocompatibility of the hydrogel is that the planted cardiomyocytes could be induced into a highly ordered alignment with recovering autonomic beating ability on the elastic substrate. Because of the cell elongation and contraction during cardiomyocyte beating, the anisotropic inverse opal substrates undergo a synchronous cycle of deformation actuations, which can be reported as corresponding shifts of their photonic band gaps and structural colors. These self-driven biohybrid actuators could be used as elements for the construction of soft-bodied structural color robot, such as a biomimetic guppy with a swinging tail. Besides, with the integration of a self-driven biohybrid actuator and microfluidics, the advanced heart-on-a-chip system with the feature of microphysiological visuality has been developed for integrated cell monitoring and drug testing. This anisotropic inverse opal-derived biohybrid actuator could be widely applied in biomedical engineering.

摘要: Compressed sensing (CS) is a new research branch in multimedia compressing, which is famous for its superior performance. Due to its digital nature, it is easy to copy and distribute the compressed files in digital format, and the issues relating to digital rights management (DRM) applications would be in urgent need. We propose to hide multiple watermarks in compressed sensing coefficients. Color images consisting of three color planes with high correlations are selected for watermark embedding. Multiple watermarks are embedded into the CS coefficients corresponding to different color planes. With our method, watermarked images are suitable for transmitting over lossy channels, while the copyright of color images can be retained. Simulations have presented the effectiveness for the proposed algorithm.

摘要: In the paper an adaptive color correction method for virtual view synthesis is presented. It deals with the typical problem in free navigation systems – different illumination in views captured by different cameras acquiring the scene. The proposed technique adjusts the local color characteristics of objects visible in two real views. That approach allows to significantly reduce number and visibility of color artifacts in the virtual view. Proposed method was tested on 12 multiview test sequences. Obtained and presented in the paper results show, that proposed color correction provides increase of the virtual view quality measured by PSNR, SSIM and subjective evaluation.

Variance Based Brightness Preserved Dynamic Histogram Equalization for Image Contrast Enhancement
摘要: This paper proposes a novel variant of Brightness Preserving Dynamic Histogram Equalization (BPDHE) having more brightness preserving capability with less computational time. This variant, called Variance based Brightness Preserve Dynamic Histogram Equalization (VBBPDHE) uses the interclass and intraclass variance information to segment out the histogram recursively. This variant does not need the smoothing operation of input histogram and also no need to compute local maxima or minima to segment out the histogram unlike BPDHE. Visual analysis, quality metrics and execution time clearly demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed VBBPDHE over well-known existing methods.
