A Stretchable Metamaterial Absorber with Deformation Compensation Design at Microwave Frequencies
摘要: A stretchable microwave metamaterial absorber with specific pattern design is proposed and fabricated in this paper to improve the stability of microwave absorption for deformation. Compensation mechanism is revealed by the electrical current loop for resonance absorption excitation in equivalent circuit model. The proposed metamaterial absorber with slotted cross pattern is compared with the conventional cross pattern absorber. A stretchable silver conductive ink validates the silk screen printing of resistive patterns on flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate and hence realizes the stretching experiments. In a 25% stretch, the resonant frequency of the compensated absorber shifts only 0.5% for TM polarization, comparing to the 8% shifting of the conventional structure.

Loss compensated extraordinary transmission in hybridized plasmonic nanocavities
摘要: Extraordinary optical transmission has been utilized in many optical applications, but the plasmonic losses hinder their full potential. To obtain enhanced transmission, one of the loss compensation methods is to introduce gain. However, an enhanced transmission or even eliminated absorption does not guarantee plasmonic loss compensation. Here, we reveal the distinction between the transmission enhancement mechanisms in gain-assisted plasmonic arrays. To uncover the underlying mechanisms of the modi?ed transmissions, we calculate the e?ective electric permittivity by employing a self-consistent gain model. We demonstrate that a large transmission enhancement in a plasmonic system composed of periodic nanocavities and coaxially placed nanoislands, is led by the loss compensation, which manifests itself as narrowing in e?ective permittivity. In contrast, a slight transmission enhancement in a plasmonic array without the nanoislands arises from the background ampli?cation.

Disparities selection controlled by the compensated image quality for a given bitrate
摘要: A stereoscopic image consists of two views rendering a depth sense. Indeed each eye is constrained to look at one view, and the small objects displacements across the two views are interpreted as an indication of depth. These displacements are exploited as speci?c inter-view redundancies from a compression viewpoint. The classical still compression scheme, called disparity-compensated compression scheme, compresses one view independently of the second view, and a block-based disparity map modeling the displacements is losslessly compressed. The difference between the original view and its disparity predicted view is then compressed and used by the decoder to compute the compensated view to improve the disparity predicted view. However, a proof of concept work has already shown that selecting disparities according to the compensated view, instead of the predicted view, yields increased rate-distortion performance. This paper derives from the JPEG-coder, a disparity-dependent analytic expression of the distortion induced by the compensated view. This expression is embedded into an algorithm with a reasonable numerical complexity approaching the performance obtained with the proof of concept work. The proposed algorithm, called fast disparity-compensated block matching algorithm, provides at the same bitrate an average performance increase as compared to the classical stereoscopic image coding schemes.

Full-spectrum periodic nonlinear Fourier transform optical communication through solving the Riemann-Hilbert problem
摘要: An algorithm is proposed for the detection and joint estimation of target parameters for a radar with a two-element rotating antenna. Rotation of the antenna introduces unwanted effects, which may cause inaccuracy in the parameter estimation. Target detection is performed by adding the processed data from two sensors. Joint estimation of range, Doppler, and direction of arrival (DOA) is carried while compensating the effects of antenna rotation. The detection performance is analyzed in terms of the receiver operating characteristics. Analytical expressions of Cramer–Rao Bound for Doppler, the range and DOA are derived. Computational complexity is also discussed. A simulation demonstrates and veri?es the proposed algorithm and its analyses.

Investigation of sensitivity enhancing and temperature compensation for fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based strain sensor
摘要: This paper developed a novel method and relevant mechanical configurations to enhance strain sensitivity and realize temperature compensation simultaneously for fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based strain sensor. The theoretical strain amplification model and temperature compensation model of the designed method and the manufactured sensor specimen were derived based on the theory of elastic mechanics and the methodology of matrices. The established theoretical sensing models were validated through finite element method (FEM) and experimental tests. The theoretical, FEM, and experimental results show good consistency. The overall sensitivities of the two FBGs in the developed sensor achieve 7.72 pm/με and ?2.94 pm/με respectively, which are respectively 6.43 and ?2.45 times of the strain sensitivity of a bare fiber Bragg grating strain sensor. The decoupling of strain and temperature was implemented theoretically and verified experimentally. The developed sensor in this paper can be used for long-term small-amplitude micro-strain monitoring in varying temperature environments for vital mechanical equipment.

Impact of compensation mechanisms for PV generation on residential consumers and shared net metering model for developing nations: a case study of India
摘要: The present work examines the impact on consumer electricity bills under five different cases designed on different compensation mechanisms to evaluate PV generation units for 120 residential consumers in Kharagpur, West Bengal, for assessing the pertinence of energy policy to be introduced for encouraging rooftop PV in India. The consumers are categorized based on their lifestyles. It is found that lower the size of the panel, lower is the savings leading to a decrease in the attractiveness of a rooftop PV system for a residential consumer. Also, the compensation mechanism and injection tariff play a crucial role in making a rooftop PV system feasible for a residential consumer. It is observed that the achieved savings of a consumer is a function of compensation mechanism and seasonal load pattern of a consumer. A shared distributed net metering model is proposed as an alternative to the individual rooftop PV systems, to mitigate the issues related to shading, land and financial feasibility of a PV system for small residential consumers. The results of the simulation analysis based on the model indicate a high positive net present value and an acceptable payback period, which makes the model feasible. The proposed model is found to be more scalable and economically viable for a developing nation like India. Net metering policy, being in its nascent stage in India, needs to be revisited to incorporate innovative tools and mechanisms to deliver the goods to the large section of the population.

Fiber Bragg Grating-Based Oil-Film Pressure Measurement in Journal Bearings
摘要: The on-line measurement of oil-film pressure inside a journal bearing based on an optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed and described for the first time. Two methods are described, one includes inserting the packaged FBG into the bearing using rubber and the other is involved the packaged FBG being directly embedded on the bearing surface. The inserted method has a higher sensitivity than the embedded version, while the embedded method incurs less damage to the bearing being small in size. Experiments to verify the feasibility of both methods are described with parameters being measured over the full motor operating range. Experimental results of the oil film pressure measured by these two methods agree well with simulated values, demonstrating excellent prospects for using the sensing schemes described in this paper as the basis for real industrial measurement systems. Furthermore, due to its small size and high sensitivity, coupled with excellent immunity to external electromagnetic interference the FBG sensor is an ideal candidate for measurement in which a strong electromagnetic field exists, e.g., in the case of electrical motors and generators.

摘要: This paper presents a systematic procedure that can be used to create operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) for closed-loop operation using multiple low-gain stages to realize extremely high DC gain. Such devices are necessary to realize analog functions with demanding absolute accuracy requirements, e.g., high-resolution ADCs and DACs. The principle is based on the cascade of undamped integrators to realize large DC gains and a state-space derived controller to stabilize its operation in a closed-loop configuration. A programmable OTA fabricated in the IBM 130 nm CMOS process is used as a test vehicle to prove the design principle through its 2 to 5th-order realization. Measured data reveals DC gains ranging from 50 to 150 dB with a 3-dB bandwidth of 10 kHz and a unity gain frequency of 10 MHz. While this paper demonstrates the design principles using CMOS integrated circuits, the principle is general and can be applied to any type of circuit technology in integrated or discrete implementation. Moreover, the methods are easily automated as the principles are based on closed-form formulae as opposed to iterative numerical search techniques.

1.2: <i>Invited Paper:</i> Dynamic threshold voltage compensation IGZO‐GOA circuit for AMOLED display
摘要: A dual-gate amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (a-IGZO) thin-film transistor (TFT) has been proposed and designed in this work. Based on this specific structure, a technologically advanced external Vth compensation system, where Vth can be controllable by an external DC signal source, has been developed for gate driver on array (GOA). Subsequently, the working mode of this circuit was introduced. Moreover, detailed simulation has been performed to study the appropriate process window. Finally, the proposed GOA circuit exhibited stable high-voltage output pulse, meanwhile, the lifetime showed an significant improvement with the utilization of the external Vth compensation system. It should be also mentioned that a wide pulse of 3.6ms has been obtained to sense Vth of driving TFTs in pixel circuits.
