摘要: In order to transfer 3000-MW capacity of electricity from the mine-mouth coal-fired power plants in South Sumatra to the load center in Java, PLN Indonesia intends to build the Java-Sumatra Power Interconnection System. The scopes of these works of the Power Interconnection System are including: high voltage alternating current (HVAC) 500 kV Transmission Line in Java, HVAC 500 kV Transmission Line in Sumatra, high voltage direct current (HVDC) 500 kV Transmission Line in Java, HVDC 500 kV Transmission Line in Sumatra, and HVDC 500 kV Java-Sumatra submarine cables. This paper will analyze the financial feasibility study to ensure whether the project has economic benefit, and the asset would be used effectively and efficiently along its benefit period using life cycle cost analysis (LCCA). In this paper, an LCCA will be simulated to analyze three alternatives and to decide which alternative is the most profitable. Monte Carlo simulations and a break-even chart for a period of 30 years' operation of the interconnection system are part of the LCCA models to achieve the objectives of this paper.

摘要: The extraction of water in small and large scales is an application of great transcendence at present; it has an impact on rural communities where there is no conventional electricity. The photovoltaic pumping systems are characterized by high reliability, long duration and minimum maintenance, which translates into a lower long-term cost when compared to the electric grid or generator set. In addition, it does not require the use of an operator and has less impact on water, air and noise pollution. The drive line is: a 10 HP submersible electric pump, with a flow rate of 4.5 l / s, ADT of 90 m, drive length 487.5 m, and a volume of 90 m^3. The generation system is 48 photovoltaic modules of 240 Wp. Model SM-230MA12, with a minimum generation power of 11.14 kW. The cost of operation with conventional technology is US $ 2,468.00, the annual energy cost is US $ 11,220.00, and the cost of operation with photovoltaic technology is US $ 3,380.00 and the annual saving is US $ 15,370.00, showing that its operation is according to the HSP and whose estimated return on investment is 2 years.

Low-cost Custom Fabrication and Mode-locked Operation of an All-normal-dispersion Femtosecond Fiber Laser for Multiphoton Microscopy
摘要: A protocol is presented to build a custom low-cost yet high-performance femtosecond (fs) fiber laser. This all-normal-dispersion (ANDi) ytterbium-doped fiber laser is built completely using commercially available parts, including $8,000 in fiber optic and pump laser components, plus $4,800 in standard optical components and extra-cavity accessories. Researchers new to fiber optic device fabrication may also consider investing in basic fiber splicing and laser pulse characterization equipment (~$63,000). Important for optimal laser operation, methods to verify true versus apparent (partial or noise-like) mode-locked performance are presented. This system achieves 70 fs pulse duration with a center wavelength of approximately 1,070 nm and a pulse repetition rate of 31 MHz. This fiber laser exhibits the peak performance that may be obtained for an easily assembled fiber laser system, which makes this design ideal for research laboratories aiming to develop compact and portable fs laser technologies that enable new implementations of clinical multiphoton microscopy and fs surgery.

Cost-Effective and Semi-Transparent PbS Quantum Dot Solar Cells Using Copper Electrodes
摘要: PbS quantum dots (QDs) have gained significant attention as promising solution-based materials for third generation of photovoltaic (PV) devices thanks to their size-tunable bandgap, air stability and low-cost solution processing. Gold (Au), despite its high cost, is the standard electrode in the conventional PbS QDs PV architecture due to its perfect alignment with valence levels of PbS QDs. However, to comply with manufacturing requirements for scalable device processing, alternative cost-effective electrodes are urgently required. Here, we employed interface engineering approach and deposited poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) as a hole transport layer on 1,2-Ethanedithiol (EDT)-capped PbS QDs in order to adjust the valence band of QDs with the work function of inexpensive copper (Cu) electrode. In fact, this is the first report of Au-free PbS QDs PV system employing the conventional device structure. Our Cu-based device shows a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.7% which is comparable with that of the Au-based device (10.2 %). Interestingly, the P3HT-based device shows improved stability with relatively 10% PCE loss after 230 h under continuous illumination. Moreover, using ultrathin Cu electrode, a semi-transparent PbS QDs PV is fabricated with a remarkably high average visible transparency (AVT) of 26% and a PCE of 7.4%.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty in enhancing glaucoma care
摘要: Background/Aim There is increasing evidence for using selective laser trabeculoplasty as a first line treatment for chronic open angle glaucoma. The current first-line treatment is pharmacological therapy using eye drops. This study aims to assess the outcomes of selective laser trabeculoplasty in patients with glaucoma and ocular hypertension at a district general hospital and consider its role in reducing cost and treatment burden when treating patients with these conditions. Methods A single centre, retrospective case-note audit involving 58 eyes from 31 patients with a minimum follow-up of 4 months. Results Post selective laser trabeculoplasty, 62% had intraocular pressure <20 mmHg on latest follow up (36/58 eyes). Post selective laser trabeculoplasty, 10 patients (32%) were prescribed one fewer topical medication, while 20 patients (65%) were prescribed the same number of topical medications. Only 1 patient (3%) was prescribed one additional topical medication. Conclusion Selective laser trabeculoplasty is a safe and effective option for managing glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Selective laser trabeculoplasty may represent a cost-effective solution for healthcare providers as compared to pharmacological treatment.

Design, Simulation, and Economic Optimization of an Off-Grid Photovoltaic System for Rural Electrification
摘要: Access to clean and a?ordable energy in rural African regions can contribute greatly to social development. Hence, this article proposes the design, simulation, and optimization of a stand-alone photovoltaic system (SAPV) to provide non-polluting electrical energy based on a renewable source for a rural house located in Tazouta, Morocco. Real monthly electrical demands and hourly climatic conditions were utilized. An initial design process indicated that, with a 1080 Wp total capacity of PV modules and 670 Ah of battery storage, the proposed SAPV system was able to meet a considerable part of the dwelling load with an average solar fraction of about 79.1%. The rest of the energy demand was ensured by a diesel generator (DG). Also, a life cycle analysis of the PV system revealed that the life cycle cost is 10,195.56 USD and the unit electricity cost is 0.57 USD/kWh for an initial investment of 4858.68 USD. Thereafter, an optimum design based on Homer Pro software was carried out indicating that lower PV capacity can decrease the unit energy cost to 0.356 USD/kWh while reducing the solar fraction to 54.9%.

摘要: Human-following robots can bring a lot of convenience to our lives. The function of human-following can be decomposed into three processes: human detection, tracking and following. Considering cost and adaptability. In this paper, a low-cost laser scanner is used to achieve it. And an improved method of threshold-based clustering is proposed, which can effectively solve the problem of excessive clustering when it is far away from the laser scanner. Three types of features are extracted to recognize the legs from other objects by the random forest classifier. The position in the middle of the legs is used to indicate the position of the target person, which will be tracked by the robot using a Kalman filter algorithm and nearest neighbor algorithm. After inputting the coordinates of the followed target into the controller, the linear velocity and angular velocity of the following can be obtained. Experiments show that the robot can follow the target person stably.

Low Complexity Dimensioning of Sustainable Solar-enabled Systems: A Case of Base Station
摘要: Solar-enabled systems are becoming popular for provisioning pollution-free and cost-effective energy solution. Dimensioning of a solar-enabled system requires estimation of appropriate size of photovoltaic (PV) panel as well as storage capacity while satisfying a given energy outage constraint. Dimensioning has strong impact on the user’s quality of experience and network operator’s interest in terms of energy outage and revenue. In this paper, dimensioning problem of solar-enabled communication nodes is analyzed in order to reduce the computation overhead, where stand-alone solar-enabled base station (SS-BS) is considered as a case study. For this purpose, hourly solar data of last ten years has been taken into consideration for analysis. First, the power consumption model of BS is revised to save energy and increase revenue. Using the hourly solar data and power consumption profile, the lower bounds on panel size and storage capacity are obtained using Gaussian mixture model, which provides a reduced search space for cost-optimal system dimensioning. Then, the cost function and energy outage probability are modeled as functions of panel size and number of battery units using curve fitting technique. The cost function is proven to be quasiconvex, whereas energy outage probability is proven to be convex function of panel size and number of battery units. These properties transform the cost-optimal dimensioning problem into a convex optimization framework, which ensures a global optimal solution. Finally, a Computationally-efficient Energy outage aware Cost-optimal Dimensioning Algorithm (CECoDA) is proposed to estimate the system dimension without requiring exhaustive search. The proposed framework is tested and validated on solar data of several cities; for illustration purpose, four cities, New Delhi, Itanagar, Las Vegas, and Kansas, located at diverse geographical regions, are considered. It is demonstrated that, the presented optimization framework determines the system dimension accurately, while reducing the computational overhead up to 94% and the associated energy requirement for computation with respect to the exhaustive search method used in the existing approaches. The proposed framework CECoDA takes advantage of the location-dependent unique solar profile, thereby achieving cost-efficient solar-enabled system design in significantly less time.

Techno-economic uncertainty quantification and robust design optimization of a directly coupled photovoltaic-electrolyzer system
摘要: To solve the problem of large time shifts between renewable energy supply and user demand, power-to-H2 is a well-known option. In this framework, previous studies have shown that the direct coupling of a photovoltaic array with an electrolyzer stack is a viable solution. However, these studies assumed perfectly known operating parameters to optimize the setup. Moreover, they focused on maximizing hydrogen and minimizing the energy loss, while the cost was not addressed. We have performed an optimization including uncertainty quantification (i.e. surrogate-assisted robust design optimization) for several locations with the Levelized Cost Of Hydrogen (LCOH) as objective. This paper provides the least sensitive design to uncertainties and shows which parameters are most affecting the variability of the LCOH for that design. The robust design optimization illustrates that the mean and standard deviation of the LCOH are non-conflicting objectives for the robust designs of all considered locations. The optimal robust design is established at the considered location with the highest average yearly solar irradiance, achieving a mean LCOH of 6.6 €/kg and a standard deviation of 0.72 €/kg. The discount rate uncertainty is the main contributor to the LCOH variation. Therefore, installing a PV-electrolyzer system in locations with a high average yearly solar irradiation is favorable for both the LCOH mean and standard deviation, while de-risking the technology has the highest impact on further reducing the LCOH variation. Future works will focus on including accurate probability distributions and adding batteries to the system.

摘要: In the society, most of the disabled people especially completely movement impaired ones live like burdens and suffer from severe depression as they have to depend on others for day-to-day activities and cannot contribute to the community. These people may not be able to move their arms or legs but they can certainly think. If their ability to think and make decisions can be utilized in decision making situations and also if they can further be included in industrial automation structure, they will no longer be burden rather they will become man-power to the society. One of the major challenges of involving these people in such processes is making a low cost device that is affordable by the mass, made with locally available components and also interprets the person’s choice accurately. As these people are physically disable, comprehending their electroencephalogram (EEG) signal for blink detection can be an effective solution for translating their choices. EEG-based controlling devices are mobile and can serve as powerful aids for severely disabled people in their daily life. In this work, a low cost EEG sensor is made with readily available components and a framework is developed to detect voluntary eye blinks. A graphical user interface (GUI) is also developed which is suitable for the impaired person. The eye blinks of the person act as bridge between a set of choices pointed in the GUI and his/her selection interest and thus help the person control home appliances, wheel chair and even computer without depending on others.
