  • Optimization Of Process Mean Setting For CO2Laser Welding Process For Alloy Steel Automotive Gears With Application Of Taguchi Loss Function And Fraction Defective Method

    摘要: In the present research work, authors suggest a fundamental approach for estimation of optimum process mean setting through the trade-off between cost of manufacturing (power cost) and internal quality loss to the manufacturer for CO2 laser welding process which is successfully applied for joining automotive gears of 16MnCr5 alloy steel and the process mean has been optimized subsequently. Two different approaches viz., the application of Taguchi quadratic loss function and fraction defective method have been used and compared for assessment of internal quality loss to the manufacturer. It is concluded that this approach can be applicable for any manufacturing situation.

  • Achieving Fast Charge Separation and Low Nonradiative Recombination Loss by Rational Fluorination for High‐Efficiency Polymer Solar Cells

    摘要: Four low-cost copolymer donors of poly(thiophene-quinoxaline) (PTQ) derivatives are demonstrated with different fluorine substitution forms to investigate the effect of fluorination forms on charge separation and voltage loss (Vloss) of the polymer solar cells (PSCs) with the PTQ derivatives as donor and a A–DA’D–A-structured molecule Y6 as acceptor. The four PTQ derivatives are PTQ7 without fluorination, PTQ8 with bifluorine substituents on its thiophene D-unit, PTQ9, and PTQ10 with monofluorine and bifluorine substituents on their quinoxaline A-unit respectively. The PTQ8- based PSC demonstrates a low power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.90% due to the mismatch in the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels alignment between the donor and acceptor. In contrast, the devices based on PTQ9 and PTQ10 show enhanced charge-separation behavior and gradually reduced Vloss, due to the gradually reduced nonradiative recombination loss in comparison with the PTQ7-based device. As a result, the PTQ10-based PSC demonstrates an impressive PCE of 16.21% with high open-circuit voltage and large short-circuit current density simultaneously, and its Vloss is reduced to 0.549 V. The results indicate that rational fluorination of the polymer donors is a feasible method to achieve fast charge separation and low Vloss simultaneously in the PSCs.

  • A new production cost effectiveness factor for assessing photovoltaic module cooling techniques

    摘要: Numerous cooling techniques are available to reduce photovoltaic module (PV) temperature and thus improve PV efficiency. Sometimes, the manufacturing cost of some PV cooling techniques is higher as compared with their power productivity, and thus the cost parameter is needed to be taken into consideration to justify producing certain PV cooling techniques. This paper is intended to link the manufacturing cost of the PV cooler with its output power by providing an economic analysis as there is a research gap in previous studies related to the economic aspect of these products. It proposes a new method by defining and deriving a new parameter called the PV cooling technique production cost effectiveness factor whose value is affected by the PV efficiency gained of a PV with and without a cooler, the manufacturing cost of the PV cooling technique, and the cost of one watt of PV power. Based on the value of this new factor, three possible classifications are suggested. They are production/not production cost effective or neutral. To determine the optimum PV cooler, the minimum value of the PV cooling technique production cost effectiveness factor is defined. The applicability conditions and limitations of the proposed method are illustrated. It is shown that the PV cooling technique production cost effectiveness factor and its minimum value are helpful in classifying the PV cooling techniques based on their power productivity and manufacturing cost. This parameter may have a potential to be used by PV cooling technique designers and manufacturers on making their design decisions.

  • Techno‐economic assessment of solar photovoltaic integration into national grids: A case study of Burkina Faso

    摘要: To promote a low‐carbon society, it is urgent to better integrate renewable energies into energy supply systems. This paper examines the impact of solar photovoltaic (PV) integration into the national electrical grid in Burkina Faso on the electricity production cost. The analysis is based on the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) technique. Several levels of PV integration have been considered namely 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% of the total installed capacity. First, the results revealed all the configurations with PV integration are more attractive and cost‐effective compared with the conventional diesel standalone electricity system. The sensitivity analysis shows that the configuration with 80% PV is the most attractive when compared to the other ones as it has the lowest LCOE and CO2 emissions compared with the other scenarios. This paper also shows that in the context of rising fuel prices and environmental concern, the electricity production based on diesel standalone system is not a viable solution for Burkina Faso at the moment. Finally, the results revealed that subsidies offered by the government of Burkina Faso to support the electricity production cost will be more effective for a system with PV integration. This paper gives detail highlights of solution for policymakers to make useful investment in solar energy and widen the access to electricity in Burkina Faso.

  • Long-term stable perovskite solar cells with room temperature processed metal oxide carrier transporters

    摘要: A hydrophobic electron transporter is introduced to enhance the moisture stability of perovskite solar cells. The device retains 76.8% of the initial efficiency after half a year's storage. Physical vapour deposition that is compatible with flexible substrates is used to fabricate charge transporters. This scheme contributes to achieving stable perovskite devices with low time and energy inputs.

  • Cost benefit modeling of AB <sub/>2</sub> X <sub/>4</sub> (A=Cd; B=Ga; X=S, Se) solar photovoltaic (PV) materials

    摘要: Present paper focus towards implementation and commercialization of emerging solar PV technology with cost effective manner. Energy band gap, absorption coefficients and module implementation cost for 1KW solar power plant for ternary AB2X4 (A= Cd; B= Ga; X= S, Se) solar photovoltaic (PV) system is investigated here. All the material related calculations are carried out using density functional theory [1] and cost related calculations by using mathematical expressions. By performing a comparative cost study between proposed materials based solar photovoltaic module and crystalline based solar photovoltaic module we concluded that present material will be cost effectively commercialized as compare to Crystalline Si.

  • Early economic evaluation of MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) and epilepsy surgery for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy

    摘要: Background MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) is a new minimally invasive treatment for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), with limited effectiveness data. It is unknown if the cost savings associated with shorter hospitalization could offset the high equipment cost of MRgLITT. We examined the cost-utility of MRgLITT versus surgery for TLE from healthcare payer perspective, and the value of additional research to inform policy decision on MRgLITT. Methods We developed a microsimulation model to evaluate quality adjusted life years (QALYs), costs, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of MRgLITT versus surgery in TLE, assuming life-time horizon and 1.5% discount rate. Model inputs were derived from the literature. We conducted threshold and sensitivity analyses to examine parameter uncertainties, and expected value of partial perfect information analyses to evaluate the expected monetary benefit of eliminating uncertainty on probabilities associated with MRgLITT. Results MRgLITT yielded 0.08 more QALYs and cost $7,821 higher than surgery, with ICER of $94,350/QALY. Influential parameters that could change model outcomes include probabilities of becoming seizure-free from disabling seizures state and returning to disabling seizures from seizure-free state 5 years after surgery and MRgLITT, cost of MRgLITT disposable equipment, and utilities of disabling seizures and seizure-free states of surgery and MRgLITT. The cost-effectiveness acceptability curve showed surgery was preferred in more than 50% of iterations. The expected monetary benefit of eliminating uncertainty for probabilities associated with MRgLITT was higher than for utilities associated with MRgLITT. Conclusions MRgLITT resulted in more QALYs gained and higher costs compared to surgery in the base-case. The model was sensitive to variations in the cost of MRgLITT disposable equipment. There is value in conducting more research to reduce uncertainty on the probabilities and utilities of MRgLITT, but priority should be given to research focusing on improving the precision of estimates on effectiveness of MRgLITT.

  • Borehole water level model for photovoltaic water pumping systems

    摘要: Using photovoltaic energy to pump water from aquifers is an interesting solution to circumvent the low electricity grid coverage and provide improved domestic water access in off-grid areas in sub-Saharan Africa. When pumping and during the lifetime of a pumping installation, the borehole water level changes, which impacts the amount of energy required to extract water from the aquifer. In order to address alterations in energy requirements, this article develops a data-driven borehole water level model adapted to photovoltaic water pumping systems (PVWPS). The proposed model is applicable to all types of PVWPS and aquifers. It has been validated against experimental data from a pilot PVWPS located in a rural off-grid village in Burkina Faso having achieved more than 97% accuracy. Thanks to this borehole model, we have been able to assess the influence of the variability of groundwater resources on both the performance of PVWPS and on their optimal sizing. We show that the variation of the static water level can require a increase of the peak power of the PV modules of up to 100%. Nonetheless, the effect of the drawdown due to the pumping is negligible. This study can help companies, governments and non-governmental organizations to better take into account the variability and the sustainability of groundwater resources in the optimal sizing and monitoring of PVWPS.
