  • A new class of states of reversible entanglement manipulation under positive partial transpose operations

    摘要: We ?rst study the reversibility for a class of states under the operations which completely preserve the positivity of partial transpose (PPT) and show that the entanglement cost is equal to the distillable entanglement for a rank-two mixed state on the 4 (cid:78) 4 antisymmetric subspace under PPT operations. By using a similar method in ?nding the irreversibility, we also ?nd that the value of a new ef?ciently computable additive lower bound Eη (ρ) for the asymptotic PPT-relative entropy of entanglement presented in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 180506 (2017)] is equal to the regularized Rains’ bound and an upper bound EN(ρ) for distillable entanglement for these states. Furthermore, we ?nd states on the symmetric subspace satisfying the relation mentioned above, generalize the antisymmetric states and symmetric states in higher dimensions, and give a speci?c value for distillable entanglement and entanglement cost for these states under the PPT operations.

  • Boosting the efficiency of carbon-based planar CsPbBr3 perovskite solar cells by a modified multistep spin-coating technique and interface engineering

    摘要: All-inorganic CsPbBr3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted tremendous attentions in the photovoltaic field these days in view of their outstanding stability, especially thermal stability. However, the bromide-rich perovskite, such as CsPbBr3, always suffer from a low phase-purity and poor morphology synthesized by traditional two-step deposition route. Herein, we demonstrate a facile multistep spin-coating strategy to fabricate high-quality CsPbBr3 films on the low-temperature processed compact TiO2 (c-TiO2) electron transport layer (ETL) of the carbon-based PSCs. As-prepared films exhibit more homogeneous with higher CsPbBr3-phase purity and larger average grain sizes up to 1 μm, compared to those prepared through traditional two-step deposition process. The champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the planar CsPbBr3 PSC is boosted from 7.05% to 8.12%, getting an increase by 15.2%, due to the increased crystallinity and light-harvesting ability as well as reduced trap states of the CsPbBr3 film. To further enhance the device performance, a SnO2 thin layer with much higher carrier mobility than TiO2 is introduced to passivate the c-TiO2 ETL. It is found that the SnO2 layer can not only improve the surface morphology of the ETL, but also reduce the current shunting pathways in the c-TiO2. The TiO2/SnO2 bilayered ETL possesses a superior electron extraction capability, beneficial to the charge transport and suppression of the interfacial trap-assisted recombination. The best-performing TiO2/SnO2-based CsPbBr3 PSC delivers an excellent fill factor of 0.817 and a high PCE of 8.79%, which is the highest efficiency for planar CsPbBr3 PSCs reported to date. More importantly, the unencapsulated all-inorganic PSCs show a promising humidity and thermal stability with no decline in efficiency when stored in ambient air at room temperature (25 oC) for over 1000 h and 60 oC for one month, respectively. Our work pave the ways for practical applications of cost-effective, highly efficient and stable all-inorganic PSCs.

  • Analysis of the Potential of Solar Energy Development inSaudi Arabia

    摘要: Saudi Arabia has been exploring the potential of renewable energy for many years. Saudi authorities, scientists, and researchers view the generation of renewable energy as a viable long-term energy strategy. Despite this, because Saudi Arabia is one of the leading oil producing nations and relies heavily on it as a form of energy and source of income, solar energy has not been given much serious consideration. However, it has become more and more evident that for the continuing prosperity of the nation and the inevitable gradual decline in long-term oil production, it is essential to explore and invest in alternative energy sources. The main objectives of this research are: i) to establish the potential of solar energy generation as a suitable, cost-effective alternative to petroleum products. ii) to establish the potential for maximizing renewable power generation to support the supply grid. This paper presents an examination of various economic and technological aspects of generating solar energy in Saudi Arabia. Using some existing data on the amount of solar radiation, a seasonal multiple linear forecasting method is used to generate forecasts for electric energy generation potential for 32 cities. Results of this research demonstrate the desirability and economic feasibility of installing solar panel farms and constructing distribution lines.

  • A NOVEL POLARIZATION INDEPENDENT CHIPLESS RFID TAG USING MULTIPLE RESONATORS

    摘要: A novel polarization independent RFID tag employing multiple resonators is proposed. The prototype of the tag is fabricated on a low-cost substrate of dielectric constant 4.4 and loss tangent 0.02. Designing a reader for chipless RFID is a hard task since both the polarization and operating frequency agility have to be implemented. The new tag design proposed in this paper is polarization independent, making the design of the reader easier. A prototype of a 3 bit data encoded tag is demonstrated using single structure which can be extended to any order by cascading. This new design is experimentally validated in the frequency domain using monostatic measurement with magnitude response to decode the information.

    摘要: This paper presents a low-cost high-efficiency single-stage 480 Vrms to 264 Vrms solid-state transformer (SST) for lighting applications. The proposed SST is based on center-point-clamped (CPC) ac-ac buck converter topology. A comprehensive cost and efficiency optimization methodology is developed to help identify the most appropriate SST design across a design space comprising various switch structures, a range of operating frequencies, and different inductance values. For the selected implementation, a novel switching scheme is introduced that ensures smooth inductor current commutation during switching transitions, and also reduces zero-crossing distortion in the input current. Furthermore, an active voltage balancing scheme is developed to compensate for any imbalances between the two stacked input capacitors to ensure robust converter operation. A prototype 600-W solid-state transformer based on the proposed optimization, designed to operate at an input voltage of 480 Vrms and an output voltage of 264 Vrms is built and tested. The prototyped converter achieves a peak efficiency of 96%, maintains an efficiency of above 92% across a 3:1 output power range, and has a power density of 40 W/in3.

  • Low-cost, readily available 3D microscopy imaging system with variable focus spinner

    摘要: A large open aperture in an optical system can capture high-resolution images but yields a shallow depth of ?eld. To overcome this issue, we investigated a low-cost, readily available method for retro?tting microscopy imaging systems to achieve 3D focus scanning in this study. Speci?cally, a procedure for fabricating variable focus spinners with dissimilar plates was introduced, and a sequence of 12 images was captured in di?erent focal planes. The image scale and phase were corrected, and the in-focus pixels were abstracted by employing the Laplacian operator. Finally, an all-in-focus sharp image was generated, and a depth map was obtained.

    摘要: The energy storage and fossil-backup (fossil-hybridization) systems of a concentrating solar power plant (CSP) provide a continuous production of energy all over the year and satisfy the grid demand even when the sun is not shining. One could ask about the behavior of the energy production, or the levelized energy cost, as a function of the energy storage and of the fossil-hybridization in such plants. This paper tries to answer this question. For this task, there have been performed numerous simulations on a central receiver plant with a fixed nominal power, varying the storage capacity and the level of hybridization. The results showed that these variables impact differently. For the thermal storage, from capacities ranging from 0h to 24h, there is a specific intermediary capacity, 15h, in which the levelized energy cost is minimum. But for the fossil-hybridization, this energy cost always decreases with the increment of the hybrid level. The results also showed that, if a given energy production is supported by a certain level of hybridization, its energy cost would be less than that supported by a storage system. This is due to the relatively high investment costs related to the storage system, and the relatively low cost of fuel.

    摘要: The dual-receiver SUNDISC cycle has previously been shown to generate electricity at a lower levelized cost and more reliably than combined cycle CSP plants without the low-pressure receiver. The utilization of such a plant as the provider of baseload power to an off-grid consumer, for example a mine, in northern Chile is investigated. The chosen location in the Atacama desert has high solar radiation and reasonably low ambient temperatures, however, the high altitude causes a severe decrease in Brayton cycle power output. The plant is simulated to provide an almost constant power output throughout the year from the two power cycles. Plant configurations with practically no fuel co-firing reach the lowest levelized cost of electricity, 0.14 USD/(kWeh) based on a conservative cost model, at less than 800 h annual time of no power generation. If fuel-based operation is allowed during some of these hours, the plant operates throughout the 8760 h per year and generates electricity at less than 0.15 USD/(kWeh) with co-firing rates of less than 8%. All these cost figures are significantly lower than for an alternative baseload off-grid solution based on Diesel generators.

    摘要: Solar energy, in the form of enclosed trough direct steam generation, is now being deployed at scale to supply a portion of the energy demand for thermal enhanced oil recovery in Amal, Oman. Construction of the 1,021 MW Miraah project is well along and progress in cost reduction and labor productivity are evaluated. Results from the successful Manufacturing Verification Test and the Miraah Solar Steam Generator Project are presented and discussed. The Miraah data shows substantial reductions in material usage as a result of improved designs, increases in construction speed, and reductions in labor per unit of construction with deployment of enhanced tooling.

    摘要: Photovoltaic (PV) emulators are necessary tools for teaching research and development when actual PV panels cannot be used. Emulation can be used when design parameters such as size and quantity of PV resources required exceed the capacity of laboratories. Emulation schemes available today use expensive hardware and/or require software licenses. This paper presents a new PV emulator using the extremely low-cost real-time digital controller platform “Workbench”. The proposed scheme uses low-cost hardware built around a single DSP and a DC bench power supply to emulate PV panels which can be used to test other equipment such as grid-tied inverters, and/or MPPT controllers. The proposed scheme is modular, in that multiple such emulators can be externally series/parallel connected. Each emulator can also be con?gured to emulate a combination of series/parallel connected PVs.
