    摘要: This paper focuses on the wireless link development deploying (sub)THz waves. The article describes authors’ initial approach to the research and experiments dealing with THz communications. Presented work summarises the theory and achieved results in a ?led of FET-based THz detectors and readout circuits aimed at wireless THz data transmission. Our main goal was to provide proper data transmission utilising (sub)THz carrier wave — this has been experimentally achieved at 170 GHz and 289 GHz.

  • Switchable Multi-Color Solution-Processed QD-laser

    摘要: In this paper, for the first time, the switchable two-color quantum dot laser has been realized considering solution process technology, which has both simultaneous and lonely lasing capability exploiting selective energy contacts. furthermore, both channels can be modulated independently, which is a significant feature in high-speed data transmission. To this end, utilizing superimposed quantum dots with various radii in the active layer provides the different emission wavelengths. In order to achieve the different sizes of QDs, solution process technology has been used as a cost-effectiveness and fabrication ease method. Moreover, at the introduced structure to accomplish the idea, the quantum wells are used as separate selective energy contacts to control the lasing channels at the desired wavelength. It makes the prominent device have simultaneous lasing at different emission wavelengths or be able to lase just at one wavelength. the performance of the proposed device has been modeled based on developed rate equation by assuming inhomogeneous broadening of energy levels as a consequence of the size distribution of quantum dots and considering tunnel injection of carriers into the quantum dots via selective energy contacts. Based on simulation results, the simultaneous lasing in both or at one of two wavelengths 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm has been realized by the superimposition of two different sizes of InGaAs quantum dots in a single cavity and accomplishment of selective energy contacts. Besides, controlling the quantum dot coverage leads to managing the output power and modulation response at the desired wavelengths. By offering this idea, one more step is actually taken to approach the switchable QD-laser by the simple solution process method.

  • Aerosol Jet Printed Optical Waveguides for Short Range Communication

    摘要: This article presents an innovative way for additive manufacturing of optical multimode waveguides for short range data transmission. By the use of aerosol jet printing between conditioning lines on flexible foils, low cost and low weight polymer optical waveguides can be easily fabricated. The main advantages – compared to other waveguide manufacturing techniques – are the maximum fabricable waveguide length (not limited by panel- or wafer size), technology costs and 3D-ability. Furthermore, the printing allows for very long structures, which are not limited to wafer or panel sizes. In order to classify the new manufacturing approach and compare it to other technologies such as photolithography, imprinting, dispensing and ion-exchange, results on the mechanical (shear strength) and optical performance (transmittance, near field and attenuation) are presented. In addition, the experimental results on the data transmission performance are important to prove the suitability of the waveguides for high-speed communication applications. In this context, nearly error-free transmission up to 10 Gbit/s was achieved at a wavelength of 850 nm.

  • New Silica Laser-Optimized Multimode Optical Fibers with Extremely Enlarged 100-??m Core Diameter for Gigabit Onboard and Industrial Networks

    摘要: We present new type of silica graded index laser-optimized multimode optical fibers (LOMF) with extremely enlarged core diameter up to 100 μm and “typical” “telecommunication” cladding diameter 125 μm. This optical fiber was designed for harsh environment Gigabit onboard cable systems and industrial networks. It differs by special optimized graded refractive index profile, providing low differential mode delay (DMD) for selected guided modes. We present some results of tests, performed for manufactured pilot 520 m length of described LOMF 100/125, concerned with its geometry properties as well as key transmission parameters—attenuation and DMD map.

  • Laser Characteristics for VCSELs for 77 K and 4 K Optical Data Applications

    摘要: Small-sized vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) offer the possibility of very low power consumption along with high reliability for cryogenic data transfer. Cryogenic data transfer has applications in focal plane array cameras operating at 77 K, and at the lower temperature of 4 K for data extraction from superconducting circuits. A theoretical analysis is presented for 77 K and 4 K operation based on small cavity, oxide-free VCSEL sizes of 2 to 6 μm, that have been shown to operate efficiently at room temperature. Temperature dependent operation for optimally-designed VCSELs are studied by calculating the response of the laser at 77 K and 4 K to estimate their bias conditions needed to reach modulation speed for cryogenic optical links. The temperature influence is to decrease threshold for reducing temperature, and to increase differential gain for reducing temperature. The two effects predict very low bias currents for small cavity VCSELs to reach needed data speed for cryogenic optical data links. Changing the number of top-mirror pairs has also been studied to determine how cavity design impacts speed and bit energy. Our design and performance predictions paves the way for realizing highly efficient, ultra-small VCSEL arrays with applications in optical interconnects.

    摘要: New generation of datacom standards require vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) operating at data rates beyond 50 Gbaud in on-off-keying (NRZ) and pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) formats. New applications in Ethernet also demand extended wavelength range of the devices to enable wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in multimode fiber. We report on 850 nm and 910 nm single mode industrial technology VCSELs capable for error free NRZ data transmission at 60 Gb/s over 800 m and 400 m of OM5 multimode fiber (MMF), respectively. Both types of VCSELs are also suitable for PAM4 transmission up to 60 Gbaud.

    摘要: This work is concerned with application of earlier on developed an alternative method for simulation of piecewise regular multimode fiber optic links operating in a few-mode regime for computation of laser-excited optical pulse dynamics during its propagation over irregular silica graded- index multimode optical fibers (MMFs) with extremely large core diameter. Proposed model is based on the piecewise regular representation, and it takes into account launching conditions, differential mode delay, both lower- and higher- order mode chromatic dispersion, differential mode attenuation, mode mixing and power diffusion occurring due to real fiber irregularity and micro- and macro-bends. We present some results of simulation 10GBase-LX optical signal transmission over 100-μm-core MMFs graded-index refractive index profile corresponding to the typical laser-optimized MMFs 50/125 of ISO/IEC Cat. OM2+/OM3 scaled up to 100 μm core.

  • 10 Gb/s NRZ and 20 Gb/s PAM4 transmission using an EAM-integrated widely tunable DBR laser

    摘要: We report data transmissions using a widely tunable InP-based distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser integrated monolithically with an electroabsorption modulator (EAM). The laser has a wavelength tuning range of over 12 nm that is obtained by current injection into the DBR section because the butt-jointed InGaAsP DBR material bandgap wavelength. Data transmissions of 10 Gb/s nonreturn to zero (NRZ) at distances of up to 75 km of a single mode fiber have been demonstrated. A power penalty of less than 0.9 dB has been obtained when compared to the BtB condition. In addition, four-level pulse amplitude transmissions of 20 Gb/s modulation (PAM4) data at distances of up to 45 km have been conducted successfully. These results indicate that the EAM-modulated DBR laser is promising for long-reach low-cost WDM optical network applications.

    摘要: We demonstrate near-field coupling between terahertz photonic crystal waveguides in the out-of-plane dimension, with no direct physical contact, by making use of coupled-line techniques. Efficient transfer (i.e. ≈ 80%) of terahertz power from one waveguide to another is experimentally achieved. Thereafter, multi-Gbps data is successfully transmitted via this near-field link. This study can be considered a step towards practical connectors between terahertz photonic crystal waveguide circuits.

  • P‐3.3: High Definition OLED‐on‐Silicon Micro‐display Based on Human Visual Characters

    摘要: As users demand higher refresh rates and frame rates, the amount of data in the virtual reality field is also growing. There is a large visual perception redundancy in the image source transmitted by the micro-display system. In this paper, an OLED-on-silicon micro-display system based on human visual characters is designed to solve the problem of high data bandwidth transmission in head-mounted virtual reality applications. The experimental results show the multi-resolution image fusion compression algorithm based on the visual perception of human eye has the good data compression ratio. The proposed method meets the visual perception of the human eye. It has good rendering quality, which meets real-time rendering requirements of the OLED-on-silicon micro-display in the virtual reality embedded environment.
