  • 166 Gbps data rate for underwater wireless optical transmission with single laser diode achieved with discrete multi-tone and post nonlinear equalization

    摘要: In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a 450-nm laser underwater wireless optical transmission system by using adaptive bit-power loading discrete multi-tone (DMT) and Volterra series based post nonlinear equalization. Post nonlinear equalization mitigates the nonlinear impairment of the UWOC system. By incorporating post nonlinear equalization with a 3rd-order diagonal plane kernel, the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be improved by ~2 dB compared with a linear equalization method. The measured transmission capacity of the UWOC system is 16.6 Gbps over 5 m, 13.2 Gbps over 35 m, and 6.6 Gbps over 55 m tap water channel, with bit error rates (BERs) below the standard hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) limit of 3.8 × 10?3. The used electrical signal bandwidth is 2.75 GHz, corresponding to electrical spectrum efficiency of ~6 bit/s/Hz. The distance-datarate product reaches 462 Gbps*m at 35 m tap water transmission. To the best of our knowledge, both the data rate and distance-data rate product are the largest reported for single laser diode.

    摘要: In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a high-speed 2×2 MIMO real-time VLC system (64QAM-DMT) based 64QAM-Discrete Multi-Tone modulation. The system was achieved by utilizing field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and silicon substrate LEDs. The effect of attenuation of the attenuator in transmitter and receiver, the aperture diameter of the received signal, code rate and different modulation order have been investigated in our experiment. The experimental results show that our real-time VLC system can transmit over 2m distance for an overall 5Gb/s successfully.

  • 400-Gb/s DMT-SDM Transmission based on Membrane DML-Array-on-Silicon

    摘要: We report on space-division multiplexing (SDM) transmissions of up-to 400-Gb/s over a homogeneous 4-core fiber using discrete multi-tone (DMT) modulation for intra-datacenter applications and 200/400GbE links. The transmission system is enabled by a compact, SDM-channel scalable, multi-core fiber (MCF)-pluggable, and transmitter composed of a 4-channel 1.3-μm membrane directly-modulated laser (DML)-array-on-silicon integrated with a fiber-bundle type fan-in with loss of less than 1 dB and negligible optical and electrical crosstalk (XT). By simultaneously modulating all four lasers, 200-Gb/s (50-Gb/s/channel) and 400-Gb/s (100-Gb/s/channel) are achieved over a 425-m MCF link for KP4 and soft-decision forward error correction, respectively, with a power reduction of ~6x times compared with conventional DML transmitters. Additionally, numerical simulations based on a detailed rate-equations model predict the feasibility of the system for MCF transmissions up-to 10-km even with moderate levels of XT.
