  • Study on properties of barium titanate/polyethersulfone dielectric composites prepared by physical dispersion method

    摘要: Composite materials applied to capacitors with high dielectric constant, low dielectric loss and outstanding thermal stability are concerned widely in the field of dielectrics. So committed to the development of dielectric materials with excellent performance is the key factor. In this work, the barium titanate/polyether sulfone (BaTiO3/PES) composite films were prepared by a physical dispersion technology, which utilized a ball milling machine by high-speed circulation, scattered the PES solution contained BaTiO3 in deionized water with the aid of a surfactant. Then, the BaTiO3/PES composite films were obtained through a series of operations, containing reclaimed organic solvent, washed with deionized water, filtered, dried and hot pressed. The morphology of the BaTiO3/PES emulsion was investigated by TEM and SEM. The results showed that the BaTiO3 particles were covered in the PES resin matrix homogeneously. For 50?wt% BaTiO3 reinforced PES composite film. The dielectric constant increased by ~ 227% compared with pure PES resin (4.1 at 1?kHz) and the dielectric loss maintained around 10?2 magnitude, which performed better dielectric properties. The tensile strength of 10?wt% BaTiO3/PES composite films (72?MPa) reached the highest value in comparison with those of pure PES (58?MPa) due to the strengthened interaction between particles and matrix. Further increase of BaTiO3 content, the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased slightly but remained an excellent flexibility from the PES matrix. The temperature at weight loss 5% (T5%) of composite film with 40?wt% of BaTiO3 content reached up to 503?°C in N2 atmosphere. All the BaTiO3/PES composite films performed the concentrated glass transition temperature (Tg) around 229?°C. In sum, excellent thermal stability and dielectric properties would make the BaTiO3/PES composite films become the fine potential candidates for dielectric composites in the capacitors.

  • Electromagnetic Materials and Devices || Metal- and Dielectric-Loaded Waveguide: An Artificial Material for Tailoring the Waveguide Propagation Characteristics

    摘要: In the present chapter a number of loaded structures are studied with circular cross-section to explore the deviation in their dispersion characteristics from their parent circular waveguide. The dielectric and/or metal loading to the waveguide tailors its dispersion characteristics. In general, the dielectric depresses and the metal elevates the dispersion characteristics from the characteristics of their parent circular waveguide. The axial periodicity results in periodic dispersion characteristics with a lower and an upper cut-off frequency (bandpass). However such a characteristic is not reported for the azimuthal periodic structures. The bandpass characteristic arises due to the shaping of the dispersion characteristics. Therefore the dispersion shaping is only possible with axial periodicity and not with the azimuthal periodicity. The sensitivity of the structure (geometry) parameters on the lower and upper cut-off frequencies, the extent of passband and the dispersion shaping are also included. In the axial periodic structures, the periodicity is found to be the most sensitive parameter for tailoring the dispersion characteristics and the disc-hole radius is the most sensitive parameter for shifting the dispersion characteristics over the frequency axis.

  • Analog I/Q FIR Filter in 55-nm SiGe BiCMOS for 16-QAM Optical Communications at 112 Gb/s

    摘要: We propose a novel implementation of a complex analog equalization filter for the compensation of frequency-dependent variations in coherent optical links. The analog compensation filter can be used in coherent-lite optical communication links where digital signal processing (DSP) is removed to limit the complexity and power consumption. In these links, the filter can compensate for electrical bandwidth limitations and distortion introduced by chromatic dispersion in the fiber. The complex filter is implemented by combining four distributed analog finite-impulse response (FIR) filters to obtain the necessary response. The filter delays are implemented using active delay cell structures to create a compact solution. The analog filter is implemented in a 55-nm BiCMOS technology and consumes 185-mW core power for five complex filter taps. Performance is evaluated using the S-parameter measurements, noise and linearity measurements, and real-time system experiments using 112-Gb/s 16-QAM-modulated signals.

  • As2Se3-Ge11.5As24Se64.5 based mid-infrared dual nano-slot optical waveguide with huge and wavelength tunable dispersion

    摘要: An As2Se3-Ge11.5As24Se64.5 based dual nano-slot waveguide with huge chromatic dispersion at mid-infrared is proposed. The large chromatic dispersion at the target wavelength is achieved induced by resonance interaction. The characteristics of dispersion are investigated by employing the FDTD method. The simulation results indicate that by optimizing the geometrical parameters, the maximum dispersion of -3.48×105 ps·nm-1·km-1 over a full width at FWHM of 2 nm at 3000 nm has been attained. A flat and ultra-large dispersion of -3.48×105 ps·nm-1·km-1 from 2980 to 3010 nm is achieved by cascading the dual-slot waveguides. The relative dispersion magnitude fluctuation is less than 1.85%.

  • Dispersion trimming for mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in a hybrid chalcogenide/silicon-germanium waveguide

    摘要: We report a simple post-process technique that harnesses a hybrid chalcogenide/silicon-germanium system for the control of waveguide dispersion. By adding a chalcogenide top cladding to a SiGe/Si waveguide, we can substantially change the dispersive properties, which underpin the generation of a supercontinuum. In our particular example, we experimentally show that a shift from anomalous to normal dispersion takes place. We numerically study the dispersion dependence on the chalcogenide thickness and show how to use this additional degree of freedom to control the position of the zero dispersion wavelengths and hence the spectral span of the supercontinuum. Finally, we compare our approach with more traditional techniques that use geometry for dispersion tailoring.

  • GaSe saturable absorber for mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser at 1.04???μm

    摘要: Transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as tungsten disulfide (WS2) and molybdenium disulfide (MoS2), are highly anisotropic layered materials and have attracted growing interest from basic research to practical applications due to their exotic physical property that may complement graphene and other semiconductor materials. GaSe nanosheets are found to exhibit broadband nonlinear saturable absorption property, and saturable absorbers are fabricated by depositing GaSe nanosheets on side-polished fibers. Attributing to the weak evanescent field and long interaction length, the GaSe nanosheets are not exposed to large optical intensity, which allows the saturable absorber to work at the high-power regime. The saturable absorbers are used to mode locked dispersion-managed soliton fiber lasers.

  • Performance analysis of slot waveguide using aluminum nitride in slot region

    摘要: The major obstacle to accomplish an efficient photonic slot waveguide is its comparatively high propagation loss. In the current work, the silicon-on-insulator based slot waveguide with ultra-low propagation loss has been presented using aluminum nitride (AlN) in the slot region. The performance analysis of the slot waveguide has been done by varying the slot gaps from 20 to 240 nm and by varying the arm width from 160 to 340 nm. As compared with the recently reported works based on different slot waveguides, relatively smaller propagation loss of ~ 0.7 dB/cm has been predicted using the AlN based slot waveguide having a slot gap of 120 nm and arm width of 240 nm. Simulation results have demonstrated that the presence of AlN in the slot gap/low-index region, sandwiched between two high-index (silicon) regions, causes the discontinuity of the electric field of quasi-TE mode between the high-index regions. This results in high confinement of light with the smaller propagation loss in the slot region. Along with this, it has also been observed that the presented slot waveguide has the appreciably good propagation length, with low dispersion characteristics. Hence, this kind of analysis can be extended to realize the various optical devices/applications, such as for coupling, sensing, switching, etc.

  • Retarding System of the Diafraged Rectangular Waveguide Type

    摘要: In this paper, we propose fast and sufficiently accurate models for retarding systems (RS) such as double-shifted combs in a rectangular screen and RS of the looping waveguide type based on the diaphragm conductivity calculation in a rectangular waveguide (RW). The conductivity of the capacitive diaphragm in the RW is obtained for electric and magnetic wide walls. Multimode models based on functionals of electric and magnetic types are also proposed. The models facilitate correct account of losses. The dispersion of a double comb and looping waveguide with infinitely thin walls is calculated.

  • Laser-produced plasmas as drivers of laboratory collisionless quasi-parallel shocks

    摘要: The creation of a repeatable collisionless quasi-parallel shock in the laboratory would provide a valuable platform for experimental studies of space and astrophysical shocks. However, conducting such an experiment presents substantial challenges. Scaling the results of hybrid simulations of quasi-parallel shock formation to the laboratory highlights the experimentally demanding combination of dense, fast, and magnetized background and driver plasmas required. One possible driver for such experiments is high-energy laser-produced plasmas (LPPs). Preliminary experiments at the University of California, Los Angeles, have explored LPPs as drivers of quasi-parallel shocks by combining the Phoenix Laser Laboratory [Niemann et al., J. Instrum. 7, P03010 (2012)] with a large plasma device [Gekelman et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 87, 025105 (2016)]. Beam instabilities and waves characteristic of the early stages of shock formation are observed, but spatial dispersion of the laser-produced plasma prematurely terminates the process. This result is illustrated by experimental measurements and Monte Carlo calculations of LPP density dispersion. The experimentally validated Monte Carlo model is then applied to evaluate several possible approaches to mitigating LPP dispersion in future experiments.

  • Dispersion characteristics of terahertz transverse electric mode in a smooth-wall cylindrical waveguide with a degenerate plasma layer

    摘要: The propagation of transverse electric mode in a cylindrical metallic smooth-wall waveguide contains a dielectric rod and a cold collisionless unmagnetized degenerate plasma layer is analytically investigated in the terahertz frequency region. The dispersion relations of fast and slow waves for this mode are derived and solved numerically. The effects of geometrical and physical parameters such as dielectric, plasma and metal radii, and dielectric permittivity on the dispersion characteristics of terahertz transverse electric mode and its frequency spectrum are studied. It is shown that the decrease of dielectric permittivity and metal radius, and the increase of degenerate plasma radius leads to higher frequency fast waves. It is also indicated that an increase in the dielectric radius results in a decrease in the frequency of fast waves. In addition, it is found that by reducing the dielectric rod radius and with increasing metal radius, the frequency is increased in the slow waves. Finally, it is shown that the increase in dielectric permittivity causes a decrease in the frequency of both fast and slow waves.
