A multistate investigation of a solar dryer coupled with photovoltaic thermal collector and evacuated tube collector
摘要: In this study, an indirect solar dryer was designed and manufactured using a Photovoltaic Thermal (PV/T) collector and Evacuated Tube (ET) collector. The main objectives of this system were to supply the thermal load of the indirect solar dryer, to ?nd the best model for the drying process, to present a new model to predict the drying process of Tarkhineh (the drying material) and to perform its life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA). The manufactured system was tested under the weather conditions of Sanandaj city, Iran and was compared with open sun drying. When the auxiliary heater was not used, the new model 1 was the best model to describe the drying of Tarkhineh in the open sun mode and the new model 2 was the best model to describe the drying of Tarkhineh in the solar dryer designed and manufactured in this study. The new models 1 and 2 were found to be the best models for describing the drying process of Tarkhineh at set point temperatures 55 °C and 45 °C, supplied by the auxiliary heater, respectively. The payback period of the PV/T solar dryer and ET solar dryer, assuming 300 sunny days/year, were 2.3 and 2.5 years, respectively.

Performance analysis of solar tunnel dryer with thermal storage and Photovoltaic system for drying star fruit
摘要: The aim of this research work to analyse the performance of the proposed solar tunnel dryer and photovoltaic (PV) system to dry star fruit. Star fruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) is a native fruit in the north eastern states of India. Due to its rich nutritional composition and medicinal property, the demand for this fruit increased nationally. The proposed design consists of a tunnel type drying chamber and thermal storage unit. Paraffin wax (PCM) was used as a thermal storing material mounted in the tunnel dryer chamber to use the thermal energy at off sunshine hours. The thermal insulation coating on the outer surface of the solar drying chamber enhances the thermal performance of the tunnel dryer. The overall efficiency of this proposed design was analysed. The results indicated that drying of star fruit occurred in the falling rate period, where no constant rate period of drying rate was observed. The quality analyses data revealed that higher values of TPC (47.59 mg GAE/ gram of sample) and DPPH (73.59 μ mol of TE/ gram of sample) are obtained in the samples dried in solar dried as compared to open sun-dried samples. Sensory analysis (taste, aroma and flavour) carried out on slices of star fruit indicated that the solar-dried slices provided better scores compared to open sun-dried samples.

The hybrid Photovoltaic-Thermal double-pass solar system for drying applications
摘要: In this paper, is devoted to evaluating the performance of the double-pass hybrid Photovoltaic-Thermal (PVT) solar system proposed for drying purposes theoretically and experimentally as well as the system is designed, fabricate and modeled in order to simulate the productivity of this system. The hot air extracted from the PVT collector can be used as a heat source for the drying application. The critical parameter such as temperature distribution, useful heat gain, electrical power, and thermal efficiency are computed using MATLAB 2015b program built for this purpose. Results show that the higher output fluid temperature was 63°C at a lesser mass flow rate which 0.017 kg/s and the maximum efficiencies of electrical, thermal and overall at a higher mass flow rate which reached 12.65%, 56.73%, and 85% respectively at mass flow rate 0.031 kg/s. In addition, the optimum electrical power and thermal energy reached 50.57 W and 389.37 W at 0.031 kg/s.
