  • High-Gain Circularly Polarized Fabry–Pérot Patch Array Antenna with Wideband Low-Radar-Cross-Section Property

    摘要: In this paper, we explore the adoption of a chessboard polarization conversion metasurface (CPCM) for constructing a low-radar-cross-section (RCS), high-gain circularly polarized (CP) patch array antenna. The proposed CPCM is used as the polarization conversion metasurfaces’ chessboard configuration, which consists of adjacent two-layer substrates that have three metallic models. Low RCS is achieved by 180° (±30°) reflection phase variations of two adjoining PCMSs. Gain enhancement is achieved by adopting a Fabry–Pérot cavity constituted by a PCM and the antenna’s ground. The antenna with a CPCM that operates at X/Ku band, excited by the feeding network that is rotated sequentially, is measured and fabricated. The patch array antenna impedance bandwidth based on PCM was measured as 3.3 GHz (9.5–12.8 GHz) with a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 11.6% and a high gain of 13.4 dBiC (9.5–12 GHz), more than 2.5 dB higher compared with a patch antenna without a PCM. In addition, the patch array antenna produced a useful wideband RCS decrease in the operational bandwidth from 9 to 13 GHz.

  • Dual-patch Polarization Conversion Metasurface-based Wideband Circular Polarization Slot Antenna

    摘要: In this letter, a novel polarization conversion (PC) structure is introduced, and its use with a wideband, wide 3-dB axial-ratio (AR) beam, low-radar-cross-section (RCS) circular polarization (CP) slot antenna is suggested. The unit cell of the proposed PC metasurface (PCM) consists of square and L-shaped patches separated by an L-shaped slot printed on an FR4 substrate. The mechanisms for linear to circular polarization and bandwidth improvement of a conventional antenna are analyzed theoretically. Through numerical optimizations and parametric studies, a simulated 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 42.7% (4.15-6.4 GHz) and a 3-dB AR bandwidth of 26.2% (4.8-6.25 GHz) are achieved by the proposed antenna. As the simulation demonstrates, the proposed antenna achieves an average 20-dB RCS reduction in a wide band from 5.25 to 6.8 GHz compared to a conventional slot antenna covered by the PC band. In addition, compared to previously reported work, the PCM-based CP antenna exhibits a larger 3-dB AR beam width of 200° in the xoz plane and 120° in the yoz plane, and a wider CP bandwidth within the operational bandwidth. Finally, an overall volume of 0.55λ0×0.55λ0×0.05λ0 centered at 5.275 GHz is fabricated and measured, demonstrating good agreement with the simulation results.

  • Wideband and low profile polarization conversion meatasurface-based circularly polarized slot antenna

    摘要: The purpose of this study is to investigate the application of a polarization conversion metasurface for constructing a low profile, wideband circularly polarized slot antenna, which consists of a new Polarization conversion metasurface (PCM)-based square-corner-cut artificial magnetic conductor cell structure and a feeding slot antenna. PCM possesses two frequency points of polarization rotation (PR), produced by appropriately adjusting width between the two triangular metallic patches. A 39.3% (4.7-7 GHz) of big PR band was realized through the combination of two neighboring PR frequency points. The impedance bandwidth of PCM based patch antenna was measured to be 43.5% (4.5-7 GHz), with 17.2% (5.3-6.3 GHz) of 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and 0.045λ0 of profile. It also generated 7.3 dBic of high broadside gain in operational bandwidth.
