New didactic formulation of the laws of reflection of light
摘要: This work presents a new formulation of the laws of reflection of light, and it is shown the equivalence between the new and the classic formulations. The proposed formulation has a significant educational value, as it allows drawing analogies between the phenomena of light reflection and elastic collisions, which are very well known by students. The new developed statement of the law of reflection allows the resolution of traditional problems of geometrical optics, and in some cases the solution is much simpler and more intuitive than that obtained using the traditional statement of the laws of reflection. As an example, this formulation is applied for the resolution of the classic reflection problem of the three plane mirrors forming a trirectangular trihedron, also known as corner reflector.

La física en la extensión universitaria a través de la holografía como medio de educación social
摘要: With the emergence and development of the white-light holograms, new possibilities were created for its utilization as a social education medium due to the characteristic of producing a three-dimensional image which constitutes an optical duplicate of the object. The paper describes the merits and characteristics of the hologram as a means of social education and experience in the construction and use of permanent holographic exhibitions in museums and traveling in the community as a result of university extension from physics.

Utilizing History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) to Teach Physics: The Case of Electromagnetic Theory
摘要: Here the paper provides a historical and philosophical analysis of the development of electromagnetic theory in physics teaching for the benefit of scientific literacy. The analysis is described by the paradigms offered by Kuhn. A number of scientists‘ work in electromagnetic theory which is embedded in the tension between engaging in revolutionary science and normal science provides an insight into how scientific work is thought to proceed. The work of revolutionary scientists: Faraday and Maxwell, who were pivotal in developing the understanding of electromagnetic radiation. A group of scientists now known as the Maxwellians were integral to refining and clarifying Maxwell‘s theory. By realizing these things, the students will become inspired and reinforced in resolve to understand the richness of scientific discovery.

Linking climate change education through the integration of a kite-borne remote sensing system
摘要: A majority of secondary science teachers are found to include the topic of climate change in their courses. However, teachers informally and sporadically discuss climate change and students rarely understand the underlying scientific concepts. The project team developed an innovative pedagogical approach, in which teachers and students learn climate change concepts by analyzing National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) global data collected through satellites and by imitating the NASA data collection process through NASA Airborne Earth Research Observation Kites And Tethered Systems (AEROKATS), a kite-borne remote sensing system. Besides AEROKATS, other major components of this system include a web-collection of NASA and remote sensing data and related educational resources, project-based learning for teacher professional development, teacher and student field trips, iOS devices, smart field data collector apps, portable weather stations, probeware, and a virtual teacher collaboratory supported with a GIS-enabled mapping portal. Three sets of research instruments, the NASA Long-Term Experience –Educator End of Event Survey, the Teacher End of Project Survey, and the pre-and-post-Investigating Climate Change and Remote Sensing (ICCARS) project student exams, are adapted to study the pedagogical impacts of the NASA AEROKATS remote sensing system. These findings confirm that climate change education is more effective when both teachers and students actively participate in authentic scientific inquiry by collecting and analyzing remote sensing data, developing hypotheses, designing experiments, sharing findings, and discussing results.

Reimagining STEM Education and Training with e-REAL. 3D and Holographic Visualization, Immersive and Interactive Learning for an Effective Flipped Classroom
摘要: While the 19th and the 20th centuries were, in education, mainly about standardization, the 21st century is about visualization, interaction, customization, gamification and flipped teaching. What today we know about learning from cognitive psychology is that people learn by practicing, with feedback to tell them what they're doing right and wrong and how to get better. For STEM education, that means they need to practice thinking like a scientist in the field. So e-REAL is a cornerstone: developed as workplace learning system in a number of fields (from medical simulation to soft skills development within the continuing education), it’s an ideal solution to root a practical – but not simplicistic - approach for STEM education.
