    摘要: The aim of our research is a development of an automated experimental platform for identification of the effects of weak low frequency (LF) electromagnetic field (EMF) on cells. The platform comprises multiple measurement stations, allowing monitoring and subsequent characterization of cell cultures. Main detection methods include electroimpedance spectroscopy (EIS), optical microscopy, and turbidimetry. EIS provides information about cell culture growth and enables electrical characterization of cell structures. Morphology and cell kinetics are investigated via computer analysis of images obtained from video-microscopy. The complex measurement system allows efficient scanning of frequencies and amplitudes of EMF while searching for possible specific response of investigated biosystem. The developing platform aspires to contribute towards general methodology of investigation into LF EMF biological effects.

  • Electromagnetic fields produced by a swift electron: A source of white light

    摘要: In this work we calculate the electromagnetic fields generated by a swift electron in both time and frequency domains. Although the electromagnetic fields in the time domain produced by a bare fast electron are obtained in standard textbooks, their time Fourier transform is not satisfactorily discussed neither are the integrals involved in the computation of it. We show that care must be taken when calculating the electromagnetic fields in the frequency domain to preserve their real nature.

  • Plasma and Plasmonics || 3 Plasma Kinetic Theory

    摘要: In the previous chapter, we have studied the dynamics of single particles in the presence of various kinds of electromagnetic (EM) fields. In this chapter, we will take this to the next level and study the dynamics of a collection of charged particles (also called a plasma) in these field configurations. For single particle motion, all that needs to be studied is the time-evolution of its position and velocity. However, when we have several particles, keeping track of the individual trajectories is very data intensive. So, we do a kind of averaging and for a given position and velocity, we study how many particles have positions and velocities close to these values. And this number keeps changing with time and essentially represents the density in phase space (configuration space is made of only position whereas phase space is made of position and velocity/momentum). This number is popularly called the plasma distribution function and usually denoted by f (x, v, t) or P (x, v, t). In this book, we will stick to f. In the language of probability theory, this quantity is known as the probability density function (PDF). Strictly speaking, f is a function of 7 variables, viz. three position variables, three velocity variables and one time variable. But in this chapter and next, we will only consider the 1D case for simplicity and hence we consider f to be a function of only 3 variables. For a given problem, we sometimes have several different possibilities for the function f and this choice is not always easy to make. However, in any case, the integral of f over x and v must be finite and constant for all time (unless we are studying an open system where number of particles can change with time).

  • Time propagation of the coupled Maxwell and Kohn-Sham equations using the Riemann-Silberstein formalism

    摘要: The coupled Maxwell and time-dependent Kohn-Sham equations are solved using the Riemann-Silberstein vectors to represent the electromagnetic fields. Momentum-space time propagation of the Riemann-Silberstein vectors are proposed and test calculations are presented to show the accuracy of the approach.

    摘要: Being materials that support terahertz waves propagation, layered superconductors attract great attention of many researchers. The Josephson plasma modes localized on a slab of layered superconductor can possess an anomalous dispersion. The possibility of anomalous dispersion manipulation opens wide perspectives for applications. One of the tools that can flexibly change the electromagnetic properties of layered superconductors is the external DC magnetic field. The effect of the DC magnetic field on the spectrum of the localized modes is a subject of the present paper. We present the derivation and analysis of the dispersion relations and discuss some interesting corollaries such as resonant amplification of wave transmission induced by the internal excitation of the localized modes and the possibility of the internal reflection of the localized modes controlled by the external DC magnetic field.

The work focused on optimizing the size of the radiating element to obtain an impedance matching less than -14dB (VSWR <1.5) and directional radiation pattern.

    摘要: Field responses to Dirac delta function sources are referred to as the Green’s functions (GFs) associated with a given boundary value problem. Scalar (monadic) and dyadic GFs characterizing, respectively, isotropic/anisotropic, and bi-anisotropic media are pervasive in computational engineering. This paper considers comprehensively the coupling between electromagnetic- and thermo-elastic fields in fully tetra-anisotropic and inhomogeneous media and inaugurates the notions of triadic and tetradic GFs and their spatial derivatives in 3-D. To this end, the governing (G) and constitutive (C) equations, describing tetradic coupled fields, are judiciously partitioned into the diagonalized (D) and the corresponding supplementary (S) equations. The resulting D? and S systems, being consistent and sharply complementary, are equivalent with the originating combined (G, C) equations. The D? and S equations transformed into spectral domain enable the calculation of the tetradic GFs and their spatial derivatives with a unifying stroke. A glimpse at future work includes the applicability of Per-Olov Loewdin’s partitioning technique to the D?form to generate perturbation expressions for n-adic GFs at any arbitrary point in spectral domain.

    摘要: Wireless power transfer system (WPT) turned to be a reliable and an appropriate strategy, which found many applications. However, there is a growing concern about two safety issues. The first one is linked to the human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) that may cause potential health hazards. The second issue is the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), where WPT systems may cause disturbance to electrical circuits. With the rapid development of WPT systems including the wide range of frequency and power, many leading countries in WPT industry have set many standards and regulations for safety usage of WPT. However, due to the complexity and variety of these standards, it is usually difficult to follow for both researchers and electrical engineers. This paper aims to provide a review for the recent standards and regulations concerning WPT industry and its applications. Therefore, a simple classification with a comprehensive comparison is presented.

  • EFFICIENT ANALYSIS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS FOR DESIGNING NANOSCALE ANTENNAS BY USING A BOUNDARY INTEGRAL EQUATION METHOD WITH FAST INVERSE LAPLACE TRANSFORM

    摘要: In this paper, we investigate electromagnetic problems for nanoscale antennas by using a boundary integral equation method with fast inverse Laplace transform. The antennas are designed for realizing ultra-fast and high-density magnetic recording. Characteristics of nanoscale antennas are discussed in terms of eigenmodes and time domain responses of electric ?elds. Our computational method is highly e?cient and the computational cost can be reduced by selecting coarse time-step size and performing parallel computation.
