[IEEE 2018 31st International Vacuum Nanoelectronics Conference (IVNC) - Kyoto, Japan (2018.7.9-2018.7.13)] 2018 31st International Vacuum Nanoelectronics Conference (IVNC) - Electron Ray Tracing in a Cylindrical Defector Analyzer for Field Emission Spectroscopy
摘要: Field-emission spectroscopy (FES) is a technique that acquires an energy spectrum of the electrons emitted from a field emitter. A cylindrical deflector analyzer (CDA) is often used for FES. Assuming that the electric field in the CDA is an ideal cylindrical field, it is known that the optimum deflection angle is 127°. In fact, there is a deviation from an ideal cylindrical field in the CDA. In particular, a fringing field occurring at the vicinity of entrance and exit of slits is not negligible. Therefore, herein, we performed three-dimensional (3D) electric field calculations and ray tracing using a 3D boundary charge method (BCM) that we developed previously. Using this approach, the CDA can be optimized to improve the energy resolution of FES.

摘要: In this invited talk, our recent progresses in the research of field emission from several oxide nanowires and their applications in vacuum microelectronic devices will be reviewed. Field emission properties from of CuO, WO3-x and ZnO nanowires were studied and their field emission mechanism were discussed. Applications of nanowire field emitter in gated field emitter, flat panel x-ray source and imaging detector were explored. Prototype of flat panel X-ray source using ZnO nanowire field emitters was fabricated and its high resolution imaging capability was demonstrated. The feasibility of a large area high-sensitive detector using ZnO nanowire field emitters is also verified.

摘要: A magnetic focused X-band travelling wave tube based on carbon nanotube cathode is presented. The travelling wave tube is operated in a uniform axial magnetic field. The extra magnetic field alleviates the electron beam focusing difficulty of electron gun and so allows it has a rather simple structure. The fabricated travelling wave tube is tested in a superconducting system and an electron beam transmittance of 86% is obtained.

摘要: Secondary electrons emitted from a scanning field-emission microscope are spin analyzed with a Mott detector. Spin polarization up to 15% is observed with a lateral resolution of less than 5 nm, with a potential resolution of even less than 1 nm. In this paper the proof of principle is conducted by comparing this method with a well-established method of spin mapping and with reference samples examined by these two microscopes.

摘要: A new design of commutable CNT emitters cathode with an on-chips gate has been investigated. Both fabrication and field emission proprieties of a buried gate cathode have been demonstrated. Current modulation by applying a small bias on the buried gate has been performed. This design shows excellent modulation properties and a high robustness.

摘要: Spatially confined non-equilibrium plasmas at vacuum and atmospheric pressure in the dimensions from a few microns to one millimeter are a promising approach to the generation and maintenance of stable glow discharges. The realization of these micro-discharges or micro-plasmas enable more accurate investigations in the field of micro plasma research. We report on field emission assisted micro plasmas excited by an alternating current with frequencies up to 1 kHz. Due to the field enhancement caused by an array of Si nano-tip structures the ignition voltage of stable plasma discharges can be reduced by 30%.

摘要: Theories of electron and ion emission use various "special" universal constants defined as particular combinations of well-known fundamental constants. This paper proposes that the best known and most widely used universal constants of this type––in particular the first and second Fowler-Nordheim constants––should (if practicable) be included in international listings of universal constants. Some of the related issues are briefly noted.

摘要: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is considered to be eminently suitable cold-cathode material. We found that exposure of CNT films to gas discharge breakdown generated in atmospheric argon gas causes significant morphology changes, which show many dispersed CNTs, on those surfaces. These indicate that the exposure of the CNT film to the gas discharge breakdown can be used as a method for improvement of the field emission property of the CNT film. In this study, field emission properties of the CNT film that was exposed to the gas discharge breakdown was investigated. Many crater-shaped holes whose circumferences were surrounded by many dispersed CNTs were found after the exposure of the CNT film to the discharge breakdown. We found that the CNT film after the exposure of the gas discharge breakdown gave better field emission properties than it before the exposure.

摘要: We improved carbon nanotube (CNT) paste field emitter by optimizing the size distribution of SiC aggregates as inorganic fillers using a novel milling process. The average size of SiC aggregates was reduced to sub-micrometer with a relatively narrow distribution. The CNT paste emitter with the optimized small SiC fillers of 1 μm in D50, by the milling process, exhibited better adhesive property and more uniform surface morphology than that with large fillers from the as-purchased SiC. Furthermore, the optimized small fillers shows superior field emission performance even under a high current density, making the CNT paste technology very useful for a variety of field emission devices.

摘要: We present the planar cathode that is dedicated for the miniaturized transmission electron microscope, which all components are fabricated based on MEMS Si-glass technology processes. The cathode is made of a commercial CNT ink without addition of fillers, and results in the stable and long lifetime field emission of electrons.
