  • A new benzimidazole-based selective and sensitive ‘on-off’ fluorescence chemosensor for Cu <sup>2+</sup> ions and application in cellular bioimaging

    摘要: Two new twinborn benzimidazole derivates (L and A), which bonded pyridine via the ester space on the opposite and adjacent positions of the benzene ring of benzimidazole respectively, were designed and synthesized. Compound L displayed fluorescence quenching response only towards copper(II) ions (Cu2+) in acetonitrile solution with high selectivity and sensitivity. However, compound A presented 'on–off' fluorescence response towards a wide range of metal ions to different degrees and did not have selectivity. Furthermore, compound L formed a 1:1 complex with Cu2+ and the binding constant between sensor L and Cu2+ was high at 6.02 × 104 M?1. Job's plot, mass spectra, IR spectra, 1H‐NMR titration and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrated the formation of a 1:1 complex between L and Cu2+. Chemosensor L displayed a low limit of detection (3.05 × 10?6 M) and fast response time (15 s) to Cu2+. The Stern–Volmer analysis illustrated that the fluorescence quenching agreed with the static quenching mode. In addition, the obvious difference of L within HepG2 cells in the presence and absence of Cu2+ indicated L had the recognition capability for Cu2+ in living cells.

  • Highly selective fluorescence chemosensor based on carbon-dot-aerogel for detection of aniline gas

    摘要: Solid-state fluorescence sensing has become a research hotspot because it is simple and convenient in practical operation. In this study, the carbon dots (CDs)-silica aerogel solid fluorescent material was developed for the selective detection of aniline gas. The blue CDs were prepared by one-step simply hydrothermally treating low-cost sawdust, then CDs-silica aerogel composite material with the high specific surface areas and high porosity was prepared by sol-gel method based on abundant hydroxyl groups on the surface of the CDs which can initiate the gelation of tetraethyl orthosilicate. It is capable of selectively distinguishing toxic gaseous aniline with other volatile organic vapors by sensitive fluorescence quenching, and under optimal conditions, the fluorescence quenching efficiency of aniline gas can reach 76.4%. It is expected that our strategy might provide a new approach for developing a low cost, fast and sensitive CDs-based probe for environmental sensing applications.

  • Carbon Dots as Cosensitizers in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells and Fluorescence Chemosensors for 2,4,6-Trinitrophenol Detection

    摘要: Carbon dots (CDs) are a unique class of fluorescent nanomaterials, whose emissions can be tuned by manipulating the reaction conditions of their formation. Herein, we report a facile solvothermal route for producing CDs with tunable properties by employing N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as the solvent medium. Using completely green carbon sources, two types of CDs are synthesized: citric acid produces green emitting CDs (G-CDs) while gallic acid produces blue emitting CDs (B-CDs). The optical analysis of the G-CDs suggests their application as co-sensitizers along with N719 dye in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Following this, the effect of G-CDs in DSSCs was studied and a photo-conversion efficiency of 6.9% was extracted from the device. Meanwhile, the B-CDs produced from gallic acid are hydrophobic in nature and their blue colored emission is quenched in the vicinity of TNP in less than 1 min with a limit of detection of 0.75 μM.

  • Selective and Sensitive Fluorescence recognition of Pb(II) in aqueous medium by organic nanoparticles of a urea linker based tetrapodal receptor: Effect of linker molecules in a sensor on chemosensing

    摘要: Tetrapodal framework based two compounds P and R were synthesized bearing two urea and thiourea moieties respectively. The organic nanoparticles (ONPs) were produced from P and R by re-precipitation method and their recognition behavior was studied by investigating the fluorescence emission pattern of ONPs-analyte complexes. The chemosensing studies of P-ONPs and R-ONPs revealed that P-ONPs (0.009 mM, size 20-30 nm) showed selective recognition behavior towards Pb(II) in aqueous medium among other alkali, alkaline earth and transition metal ions with the limit of detection as 1.56 μM via photoinduced electron transfer (PET)-OFF mechanism. In comparison to other metal ions, prominent peaks with higher intensity at 363 nm and 428 nm for Pb(II) were observed. R-ONPs have not shown any kind of selective chemosensing behavior. The judicially placed two urea bridges in P-ONPs are well suited for Pb(II) sensing.
