  • Conceptual study of photovoltaic power plant connected to the urban electrical network in northern Algeria

    摘要: This present research paper aims at showing the active role of the building equipped with photovoltaic (PV) plant in terms of energy, economy, and ecology and its impact on the development of society. Since the installation of PV plants on buildings is a rarely used technology in Algeria, we intend to conceive 30 kWp medium power plants on pilot administrative buildings, which will be generalized to two other buildings of the same type, connected to urban electricity network so as to reduce the consumption of electricity which costs much money to the local authorities, the pilot site is located in the town of EL-ATTAF, in the northwestern of Algeria. It is Mediterranean climate with average radiation of 5.14 kWh/m2/day and average yearly temperature of 19.4°C. The study highlights the technical and financial feasibility of the system based on a simulation with Homer which estimates a load of 41610kWh/year, energy production of 47872 kWh/year, an optimal angle of inclination of 32°, saving of 454 m3/year of natural gas and avoiding huge quantities of pollutants (CO2: 549 kg/year; SO2: 9.6 g/year; NOx: 0.5 kg/year).

  • Parking Space and Obstacle Detection Based on a Vision Sensor and Checkerboard Grid Laser

    摘要: The accuracy of automated parking technology that uses ultrasonic radar or camera vision for obstacles and parking space identification can easily be affected by the surrounding environment especially when the color of the obstacles is similar to the ground. Additionally, this type of system cannot recognize the size of the obstacles detected. This paper proposes a method to identify parking spaces and obstacles based on visual sensor and laser device recognition methods by installing a laser transmitter on the car. The laser transmitter produces a checkerboard-shaped laser grid (mesh), which varies with the condition encountered on the ground, which is then captured by the camera and taken as the region of interest for the necessary image processing. The experimental results show that this method can effectively identify obstacles as well as their size and parking spaces even when the obstacles and the background have a similar color compared to when only using sensors or cameras alone.

  • Dynamic life cycle economic and environmental assessment of residential solar photovoltaic systems

    摘要: With the increasing implementation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, comprehensive methods and tools are required to dynamically assess their economic and environmental costs and benefits under varied spatial and temporal contexts. This study integrated system dynamics modeling with life cycle assessment and life cycle cost assessment to evaluate the cumulative energy demand, carbon footprint, water footprint, and life cycle cost of residential grid-connected (GC) and standalone (SA) solar PV systems. The system dynamics model was specifically used for simulating the hourly solar energy generation, use, and storage during the use phase of the solar PVs. The modeling framework was then applied to a residential prototype house in Boston, MA to investigate various PV panel and battery sizing scenarios. When the SA design is under consideration, the maximum life cycle economic saving can be achieved with 20 panels with no battery in the prototype house, which increases the life cycle economic savings by 511.6% as compared to a baseline system sized based upon the engineering rule-of-thumb (40 panels and 40 batteries), yet decreases the demand met by 55.7%. However, the optimized environmental performance was achieved with significantly larger panel (up to 300 units) and battery (up to 320 units) sizes. These optimized configurations increase the life cycle environmental savings of the baseline system by up to 64.6%, but significantly decrease the life cycle economic saving by up to 6868.4%. There is a clear environmental and economic tradeoff when sizing the SA systems. When the GC system design is under consideration, both the economic and environmental benefits are the highest when no battery is installed, and the benefits increase with the increase of panel size. However, when policy constraints such as limitations/caps of grid sell are in place, tradeoffs would present as whether or not to install batteries for excess energy storage.

  • Robust Model Predictive Control (MPC) for large-scale PV plant based on paralleled three-phase inverters

    摘要: In this contribution a robust Model Predictive Control (MPC) is proposed to enhance the power quality of a large-scale PV plant connected to the grid through Paralleled Voltage Source Inverters (PVSIs) with common AC and DC buses. Paralleling inverters allow handling high-power export and offer advantages in terms of redundancy which ensure the system reliability. However, due to the physical differences and parameter disparities between the inverters, zero sequence circulating currents will flow through it, which will disturb the performance of the system. Hence, the control goal is to regulate the currents injected into the grid, suppress the zero-sequence circulating current (ZSCC). Consequently, this study proposes an MPC algorithm that is based on optimization approach which allows minimizing circulating currents. In order to show its effectiveness and performance of the proposed control, a comparison with linear PI controller is included. In addition, design control and tuning procedure are detailed. Simulation results show the performance of the proposed controller in ensuring power quality, and suppressing circulating currents. To verify the real-time feasibility of the proposed control scheme, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) setup is carried out with means of Opal-RT and dSPACE rapid prototyping systems.

  • Techno-economic optimization of grid-connected, ground-mounted photovoltaic power plants by genetic algorithm based on a comprehensive mathematical model

    摘要: The increasing penetration of photovoltaic (PV) technology calls for the development of an effective method for optimization of grid-connected photovoltaic power plants. This paper presents a simultaneous optimization method of ten important design parameters of a PV plant, including the module power, inverter sizing, support structure dimensions, cable losses, module orientation and row spacing. A mathematical PV performance model taking into account the important effects and losses and an economic cost model were developed and presented in detail. The objective function is the internal rate of return and the optimization is performed by a genetic algorithm. The results show that the proposed models and method are capable to optimize the grid-connected PV plant and provide reliable results after a 6–7 min calculation time. The method was demonstrated in detail for a Hungarian location, including the losses and cost structure of the optimal plant configuration. The optimization was also performed for 5 additional sites around the world to assess the effect of location and meteorology. The impact of the decreasing PV module prices on the optimal design is calculated to identify the expected future trends in PV plant design. The presented optimization method can be utilized to facilitate the optimal design of commercial PV plants and for research purposes.

    摘要: Renewable energy systems based on solar resources are steering the way in grid-connected applications to meet present energy demands. This research work tends to investigate the design and feasibility of RE systems using solar resources to sustain a load in the Office Park building, at Constantia Kloof Roodepoort, Johannesburg, South Africa. This is following the provincial mandate to offset the energy usage of government buildings, including those belonging to the City of Johannesburg, by the installation of renewable energy sources in South Africa. The Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) on the design revealed that the fully solar RE system was the most economically possible. This was in comparison with the annual equivalent projected City Power electricity bill for the load profile.

This data will be helpful to take decision to schedule operation & maintenance activities & preventive maintenance.

  • Adaptive backstepping approach for dc-side controllers of Z-source inverters in grid-tied PV system applications

    摘要: Z-source inverters (ZSIs) are single-stage power converters with both voltage buck and boost capabilities provided by the unique impedance network and the ability to operate during shoot-through states. This study proposes a novel non-linear adaptive backstepping method for dc-side controllers in a multi-loop control scheme of the ZSI in grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) systems. Despite the variability of the capacitor and inductor values in the ZSI impedance network, the proposed controller guarantees robust and stable operation under varying levels of PV irradiance and temperature. The shoot-through duty ratio of the ZSI is obtained directly from the output of an MPPT algorithm and the measured PV and inductor currents. This strategy overcomes the disadvantages of the conventional approach such as the non-minimum phase at the dc side of the ZSI. It also eliminates the need to linearise the voltage/current characteristics of the PV arrays and ZSI model. The ac-side controllers consist of an outer proportional–integral voltage controller and an inner deadbeat current controller to achieve unity power factor and stable capacitor voltage in spite of grid voltage fluctuations. The efficacy of the proposed adaptive backstepping controller and the multi-loop control scheme is validated by offline and hardware-in-the-loop real-time simulations.

  • The application of compound proportional resonant control strategy in multiple PV inverters system

    摘要: In order to eliminate the effect on the grid current caused by the background harmonic voltage and the reference signal on the grid connected multi-inverter, this paper adopts the double closed-loop feed-forward control strategy. This strategy is based on the inductor voltage and the grid-connected current, and the integrated control strategy of quasi-proportional resonance loop parallel to a specific harmonic compensation loop. Based on the closed-loop model of multiple inverters, the change curves of the transfer function of the two control strategies are compared with the feed-forward control and the composite proportional resonance. The two corresponding control methods are used to analyze the current quality of the multi-inverter impact. Finally, the MATLAB/Simulink simulation model is set up to verify the proposed control strategies. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve better tracking of the sinusoidal command signal at the fundamental frequency, and enhance the anti-interference ability of the system at the 3rd, 5th, and 7th harmonic frequency.

  • A Comparative Study on Neural Network Based Controllers Used in Grid-Interactive Solar System

    摘要: This paper proposes a comparative assessment of NN based current controllers followed by hardware validation towards power quality improvement in grid-interactive VSI controlled solar system. The steady state errors, transient disturbances and high current harmonic effects encountered in conventional linear PI and PR controllers are nullified by employing intelligent adaptive current controller. Three adaptive current control strategies viz. ADALINE-LMS, ALLMS, and VLAS-LMS are identified by using artificial neural network topology having been controlled by different weight-regulating algorithms which helps in minimizing current harmonics generated by the widespread use of VSI, non-linear loads, faults and uncertain polluted grid. A comprehensive comparative study is driven from the proposed adaptive controller’s stability and convergence criterion, current magnitudes calculated at different power zones, % overshoot, settling time and power quality and analyzed under numerous operating conditions. From the comparative assessment performed in between conventional and intelligent current controllers, it is confirmed that the intelligent control technique performs best under the non-linear loads and transient conditions whereas all the controllers perform equally good under the linear loads. Proposed methods are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and their effectiveness is compared in terms of time responses, stability and low-order current harmonics compensation capability. The robustness of the intelligent current controller is established through the experimental performances using dSPACE RTI 1202.
