  • Tunable near-infrared perfect absorber based on the hybridization of phase-change material and nanocross-shaped resonators

    摘要: Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) is a kind of non-volatile chalcogenide phase-change material, which has a significant difference in permittivity between its amorphous and crystalline states in the infrared range. On account of this remarkable property, the combination of GST and metamaterials has great potential in tunable meta-devices. In this paper, a perfect absorber based on a nanocross-resonator array stacked above a GST spacer layer and an Au mirror (i.e., a metal-dielectric-metal configuration) is designed and experimentally demonstrated. A thin indium tin oxide (ITO) protective layer is inserted between the GST spacer and the Au resonator to avoid heat-induced oxidation of the GST layer during phase transition. We found that the ITO layer not only can protect the GST layer from deterioration, but also allows a significant blue shift in the absorption peak from 1.808 lm to 1.559 lm by optimizing the thickness of the two dielectric layers without scaling down the size of the metal structure, which provides a more feasible idea in pushing the absorption peak to higher frequency. The LC circuit model is presented to explain this blue-shift phenomenon, which is mainly attributed to the engineering of the dielectric environment of the parallel plate capacitance. In addition, such good performance in dynamitic modulation makes this perfect absorber a robust candidate for optical switching and modulating in various situations.

  • Performance enhance of CMOS-MEMS thermoelectric infrared sensor by using sensing material and structure design

    摘要: This study presents the micro thermoelectric infrared sensor consisted of the heat material. Experiment results indicate the Detectivity of proposed design is 2-2.6 fold higher The proposed infrared absorber design has an umbrella-like structure with a post anchor to the TSMC 0.18μm 1P6M standard CMOS process and the in-house post-CMOS MEMS process. (infrared sensor consisted of only the serpentine structure with embedded thermocouple), a transduction absorber and the serpentine structure with embedded thermocouple using the serpentine suspension with embedded thermocouple. As compare with the reference design much higher Seebeck coefficient (56-fold), and is employed in this study as the thermocouple junctions is increased. Moreover, the umbrella-like structure has higher infrared absorption area with and without Silicide are respectively characterized. The poly-Si with no Silicide has a as compare with the serpentine structure. In addition, the Seebeck coefficients of poly-Si films better heat-flow path is achieved and the temperature difference between the hot and cold than that of the reference one at 200mtorr. Experiment also show that the responsivity enhancement of proposed design is further increased as the sensor size is reduced in area.

  • Near-infrared optical investigations of snow, ice, and water layers on diffuse reflecting surfaces

    摘要: While most experiments on water or ice utilize rather complex, elaborate, and expensive apparatus in order to obtain reliable optical data, here we present a simple and affordable setup that enables us to perform near-infrared measurements on water, ice, and snow on top of rough diffuse reflecting surfaces such as concrete, stone, pavement, or asphalt. By using the properties of diffuse scattering instead of specular reflection, we are able to determine the imaginary part of the refraction index of water without using any liquid cells. In addition, we demonstrate that the snow spectra can be well described by newly developed two-dimensional ray tracing simulations.

  • Enhancement of the absorption bands in the infrared spectra of low-temperature uracil films by interference

    摘要: An experimental method that enables significant enhancement of the bands in the IR absorption spectra of low-temperature films, using standard equipment for matrix isolation, was proposed. The effect is achieved due to the interference amplification of an electromagnetic wave using a sublayer of Ar film. IR Fourier spectra of low-temperature films of uracil (Ur) molecules were obtained in the range of 2000–500 cm–1, with a resolution of 3 cm–1. Thin Ur films with thickness of approximately 0.3 μm were grown at low temperatures on the surface of argon films of thickness of 2.3 and 1.1 μm. An enhancement in the spectral range of 1250–500 cm–1 was recorded for the first bilayer structure, and in the range of 2000–500 cm–1 for the second one. As a result of amplification in the spectrum of the low-temperature uracil film, absorption bands in the range of out-of-plane deformation vibrations of 1000–500 cm–1 were recorded for the first time. It was found that the out-of-plane fundamental NH modes of Ur groups are most sensitive to changes in the crystal structure of the film. It was shown that the absorption spectrum of the Ur film heated to room temperature differs from the spectrum of the Ur crystal obtained from the solution, which indicates a difference in their structures.

    摘要: In this paper a low-cost solution applicable in the field of continuous monitoring of critical equipment in industry and smart homes is described. It employs a relatively new IR array sensor MLX90621 and implements the IoT concept and three-layer architecture. The implementation of this IoT solution is based on an open source hardware microcontroller development board PIC32-T795 and wireless MOD Wi-Fi ESP8266 module. It is considered to be with reasonable cost and affordable for the potential users. The paper demonstrates the benefits of having an inexpensive infrared sensor as a part of the developed solution for continuous monitoring of critical equipment for overheating.

  • Generation of enhanced information image using curvelet-transform-based image fusion for improving situation awareness of observer during surveillance

    摘要: Image fusion has been widely used to combine multispectral information into an enhanced information image. The application of such enhanced information content in the field of surveillance for improving situation awareness of observer is highly recommended. When a single sensor information is used for surveillance like visible camera output during poor ambient lighting conditions, ‘hot-target’ details are not visible to the observer. The use of visible-infrared fused image is recommended during surveillance in poor ambient lighting conditions to visualise background scene details and ‘hot-target’ details simultaneously. A wrapping-based curvelet transform method is proposed for fusion of infrared and visible images. Curvelet transform is used because of its advantages over wavelet transform limitations like directional insensitivity, isotropic basis and inability to resolve curves. The approximation coefficients are fused using the principal component analysis rule while detailed coefficients are fused using absolute maximum rule. The reconstructed fused image is compared with results of other fusion approaches proposed in literature. The performance of proposed wrapping-based curvelet fusion method is found visually and statistically better in comparison to other fused image outputs. The fused image obtained using proposed method retains background details as well as hot target presence with fidelity.

    摘要: It was demonstrated previously that the efficiency of light collection by individual pixels of mid-wave infrared (MWIR) focal plane arrays (FPAs) can be enhanced by using dielectric microspheres, which provide concentration of light with large angle-of-view. This approach allows miniaturizing photodetector mesas to reduce their thermal current that, in turn, helps increasing the operating temperature of FPAs. In this work, we develop a technology of parallel integration of thousands of microspheres with the pixels. We fabricated microhole arrays and used them as suction grippers for microspheres. It is shown that in large-scale arrays formed by microspheres with several tenths microns in diameter, the fabrication errors below ~1% can be obtained. The fabrication errors can be significantly reduced in arrays formed by larger (>100 microns) microspheres.

  • Recent industrial applications of infrared thermography: a review

    摘要: Infrared thermography is a non-invasive technique that is drawing an increasing attention in industry. The spectacular advance in the features of the infrared cameras that has come together with their progressive cost reduction have expanded the use of this technique to many industrial applications that were unfeasible just a few years ago. This paper compiles and comments the most recent scientific contributions related to the application of this technique in the industrial context. The paper classifies the analyzed references into three main groups: electrical, mechanical and other applications. Especial emphasis is made on induction motor-related applications of the infrared thermography due to the extensive participation of these machines in the industrial context. The paper provides a critical review of most of the analyzed references, emphasizes the way in which the infrared technique is applied to the specific application and presents the limitations and pending issues as well as the future challenges regarding the application of the technique.

    摘要: Cloud type classification based on ground-based cloud image observations is an important task in atmospheric research. Currently, two kinds of cloud image observations with infrared and visible light images are widely used for cloud classification. However, they are only independently analyzed and simply compared in the current study. The useful information from these two kinds of images is not fully utilized and integrated. The classification performance could be improved if taking full advantage of the complementary information of these two observations. Thus, first, a database containing these two kinds of cloud images with same temporal resolution is released in this study. Then, a two-observation joint encoding strategy of LBP (local binary pattern) features is proposed to implement cloud classification by encoding the joint distribution of LBP patterns in different observations, which captures the correlation between two observations. Experimental results based on this database show the significant superiority of the proposed method compared to the results based on the single observation.

    摘要: Polycrystalline Pb-Salt detectors are a low cost technology for IR photodetectors. In this work, we describe the physics of PbSe detectors that accurately captures the carrier transport and long lifetimes arising from inverted channels formed due to unique bandstructure of PbSe|PbI2 heterostructures. We then discuss performance improvement through voltage control of the bandstructure, which may open a pathway for high performance and low cost IR photodetectors.
