  • Infrared upconverted image edge enhancement using spiral phase filter

    摘要: We present a theoretical and experimental demonstration of infrared upconverted image edge enhancement, acquired with quasi-phase-matching for the sum-frequency conversion process and a spiral phase filter. By illuminating a transmission mask with a 1559.5 nm Gaussian beam to create an infrared image and pumped with a 1064 nm vortex beam, an upconverted edge-enhanced image at 632.5 nm is generated. The theoretical model for the process is derived, which well explains the deviation of experimental results. The proposed technique can be further adapted for other spectral regions and nonlinear optical processes.

  • Wavelength dependence of high-order harmonic yields in solids

    摘要: We theoretically investigate the wavelength dependence of high-order harmonic yields in solids driven by a mid-infrared laser field. By solving the three-dimensional two-band density matrix equations in the wavelength range of 2.0–7.5 μm, it is shown that, in the limit of slow dephasing (dephasing time T2 → ∞), the high-order harmonic yield from a crystal follows a scaling of λ?4 for a fixed energy interval. The λ?4 scaling is attributed to the wave-packet spreading (λ?3) for the overall yield and the energy distribution effect (λ?1) due to the increase of the cutoff. For the crystal with a finite dephasing time T2, we find that the exponential factor x of λ?x increases with a decay of T2. An apparent and rapid fluctuation on a fine wavelength mesh is also observed in the harmonic yields. The fine-scale oscillation originates from the quantum interference effect, and the corresponding modulation period δλ scales as λ?1.

  • Quantitative Determination of Fluorine Content in Blends of Polylactide (PLA)–Talc Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy

    摘要: Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has been widely used for quantitative and/or qualitative determination of a wide range of matrices. The objective of this study was to develop a NIRS method for the quantitative determination of fluorine content in polylactide (PLA)-talc blends. A blending profile was obtained by mixing different amounts of PLA granules and talc powder. The calibration model was built correlating wet chemical data (alkali digestion method) and NIR spectra. Using FT (Fourier Transform)-NIR technique, a Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression model was set-up, in a concentration interval of 0 ppm of pure PLA to 800 ppm of pure talc. Fluorine content prediction (R2 cal = 0.9498; standard error of calibration, SEC = 34.77; standard error of cross-validation, SECV = 46.94) was then externally validated by means of a further 15 independent samples (R2 EX.V = 0.8955; root mean standard error of prediction, RMSEP = 61.08). A positive relationship between an inorganic component as fluorine and NIR signal has been evidenced, and used to obtain quantitative analytical information from the spectra.

  • Feasibility of indocyanine green fluorescence imaging for intraoperative identification of parathyroid glands during thyroid surgery

    摘要: Background: This study assessed the feasibility of near-infrared fluorescence imaging with indocyanine green (ICG) to identify the parathyroid glands (PGs) intraoperatively and to assess their perfusion after thyroid resection. Methods: Patients undergoing elective thyroidectomy were enrolled in this prospective study. An intravenous bolus of 7.5 mg ICG was administered twice: the first bolus to identify the PGs before resection of the thyroid and the second to assess vascularization of the PGs after resection. Results: A total of 30 operations in 26 patients were included. In 17 surgeries (56.7%), fluorescence imaging was of added value, especially to confirm the presence of a suspected PG. No intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred because of the use of ICG. Conclusion: Near-infrared fluorescence imaging with the use of ICG for intraoperative identification of the PGs and the assessment of its vascularization is feasible and safe and can provide more certainty about the location of the PGs.

  • [IEEE 2018 25th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) - Athens, Greece (2018.10.7-2018.10.10)] 2018 25th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) - Drone HDR Infrared Video Coding via Aerial Map Prediction

    摘要: In this paper, we present a novel drone high dynamic range infrared video coding algorithm based on aerial map prediction. First, at the encoder side we accumulate input frames in a buffer and use them to build an aerial map. Then we apply global motion estimation to extract the most similar frame from the aerial map and use it as an extra reference frame in the list of reference frames of H.265/HEVC video coding standard. The map is compressed by H.265/HEVC Intra and included into the overall bitstream. The global motion estimation may reflect the camera rotation which is typical for UAV video sequences. As a result, the overall coding performance is improved. Experimental results show that for a test video with camera rotation the proposed algorithm provides 3–35% bitrate savings comparing to the H.265/HEVC.

  • Infrared microscopy in the study of cellular biochemistry

    摘要: This is a personal overview of the background, motivation and objectives in the application of infrared spectromicroscopy techniques to the study of cellular biochemistry, as detailed in a presentation given at WIRMS2017. It was not the aim of the presentation, nor is it the aim of the present article, to be a systematic review of the field of biological IR microscopy. Rather, it highlights the motivation for the author to use IR microscopy in biological research, with an emphasis on experiments that address specific questions in biochemical and cellular research. It also comments on the role of conventional light sources and synchrotron radiation in these experiments and justifies the use of synchrotron light in their implementation. The synchrotron advantage for experiments on live cells is reassessed in view of recent developments in the technology of IR light sources, in particular the introduction of novel designs of mid-infrared lasers. Finally, future applications of synchrotron IR light to the field are discussed with respect to the introduction of near-field techniques for IR imaging and spectroscopy of cellular samples, such as sSNOM and AFM-IR.

  • Indolizine-Cyanine Dyes: Near Infrared Emissive Cyanine Dyes with Increased Stokes Shifts

    摘要: Molecular engineering strategies designed to red-shift cyanine dye absorptions and emissions further into the near infrared (NIR) spectral region are explored. Through the use of a novel donor group, indolizine, with varying cyanine bridge lengths, dye absorptions and emissions were shifted deeper into the NIR region than common indoline-cyanines. Stokes shifts resulting from intramolecular steric interactions of up to ~60 nm in many cases were observed and explained computationally. Molecular brightnesses of up to 5,800 deep into the NIR region were observed. Structure-property relationships are explored for the 6 indolizine-cyanine dyes with varying cyanine bridge length and indolizine substituents showing broad absorption and emission tunability. The dyes are characterized by crystallography, and the photophysical properties are probed by varying solvent for absorption and emission studies. Computational data show involvement of the entire indolizine π-system during light absorption, which suggests these systems can be tunable even further into the NIR region through select derivatizations.

    摘要: In this study, We propose the cubic AlxB1-xBi ternary alloy as a promising infrared material. We used the full potential-linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method within the Density Functional Theory (DFT) to predict the structural and electronic properties of the AlxB1-xBi ternary alloys. The structural properties such as the equilibrium lattice parameter, bulk modulus, and its pressure derivative are investigated with the effect of the concentration variation of Al atom, x (x=0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1). We found that the equilibrium lattice parameter of AlxB1-xBi ternary alloys increases when increasing the doping concentration of the Al atom, while its bulk modulus decreases. The energy band gap of the AlxB1-xBi ternary alloys decreases with the increase in the Al doping concentration. The AlxB1-xBi alloys for 0.50 and 0.75 present a semi-metallic character the other concentrations and are compositions. Our results show the direct nature of the energy band gap of the ternary AlxB1-xBi alloy for all composition of Al substitution. To our knowledge, this is the first theoretical study of this ternary alloy that needs eventual experimental data for confirmations.

  • Robust pedestrian detection in infrared images using rotation and scale invariant-based structure element descriptor

    摘要: Pedestrian detection is a signi?cant problem in infrared (IR) images that ?nd varieties of applications in defense systems. The performance of the state-of-the-art of pedestrian detection methods in IR images still have abundant space for improvement towards accuracy. In this paper, a three-level ?ltering-based pedestrian block detection method is proposed. In addition, a rotation and scale invariant structure element descriptor (RSSED) is proposed for pedestrian detection in infrared (IR) images. To extract RSSED features, the pedestrian block detection result is encoded using local binary pattern (LBP). The LBP encoded image is quantised adaptively to four levels. Further, the proposed RSSED is used to generate the feature descriptor from the quantised image. Finally, support vector machine (SVM) is used to classify the objects in given IR image into pedestrian and non-pedestrian. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method performs effectively in pedestrian detection than the other methods.

  • Infrared Patch-tensor Model with Weighted Tensor Nuclear Norm for Small Target Detection in A Single Frame

    摘要: The robust and ef?cient detection of infrared small target is a key technique for infrared search and track systems. Several robust principal component analysis (RPCA) based method have been developed recently, which have achieved state-of-the-art performance. However, there are still two drawbacks: 1) the false alarm ratio would raise under the heavy background clutters and noises, 2) these methods are usually time-consuming and not suitable for real-time processing. To solve this problem, an infrared patch-tensor model based on weighted tensor nuclear norm is proposed in this paper. First, the infrared image is transformed into the infrared patch-tensor (IPT). Considering the sum of nuclear norms (SNN) adopted in the IPT model is not the convex envelope of the tensor rank, and the solution is substantially suboptimal. The tensor nuclear norm is adopted to recover the underlying low-rank background tensor and spare target tensor, and the computation complexity can be reduced dramatically with the help of the tensor Singular Value Decomposition (t-SVD). Moreover, to further suppress the background clutters, a weight tensor is incorporated with tensor nuclear norm to preserve the background edges better. Then the separation between target and background is formulated as a convex weighted tensor RPCA (TRPCA) model. Finally, the proposed model can be solved by the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms the other state-of-the-arts in performance and ef?ciency.
