  • Enhancement of cortisol measurement sensitivity by laser illumination for AlGaN/GaN transistor biosensor

    摘要: In this study, high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) device was used as an immuno biosensor to measure concentration of a stress hormone, cortisol, by using selective binding on cortisol monoclonal antibody (c-Mab). Also, the HEMT sensor was enhanced in its sensitivity through light illumination to generate photocurrent. The optical pumping could assist the biosensor to discriminate more detailed change, which could result in an increment of limit of detection (LOD) to 1.0 pM cortisol level. It was the lowest level of detection with semiconductor device-based cortisol biosensors and the enhancement of surface potential sensitivity was induced by laser light (532 nm). Output current amplificated by photocurrent was higher than dark original current at about 3.39 % when gate voltage is applied with -3 V. Since the device could be applied to not only standard cortisol solution but also real human salivary sample, it is expected to apply for in vitro direct diagnosis of point-of-care test (POCT).

  • An optimized phosphor model coupled with thermal and optical behavior and a thereof ring-shaped phosphor convertor for improving thermal uniformity in laser illuminations

    摘要: Due to the high energy density of laser diode (LD), the ?uorescent convertor always su?ers from serious overheating problems, such as thermal quenching, signi?cant e?ciency drop or even material carbonization failure. In this work, we improved the current optical-thermal model by coupling the optical behavior of red (nitride)/yellow (YAG) phosphor and thermal conductivity of di?erent hybrid particles concentrations. According to the theoretical analysis, the thermal sensitive concentration zone was revealed. To avoid the hotspot occurs, a ring-shaped phosphor convertor with two di?erent concentrations was developed. Results showed that the convertor with high-concentration center could reduce the max temperature by 9.4% without obvious optical power loss. Some further research suggestions were also proposed to improve the thermal performances of the laser illumination.

  • First Steps towards Localized Opening of the Blood-Brain-Barrier by IR Laser Illumination Through the Rodent Skull

    摘要: Glioblastoma, an aggressive malign tumor of the brain, is one of the most shattering diagnoses due to its very poor prognosis and limited treatment options. These options mainly consist of surgical or radiation therapeutic removal of as much tumor mass as possible, which unfortunately is almost always incomplete. Even worse, chemotherapy is of little use, as the special setup of the brain′s vessels severely limits the transit into the parenchyma of elsewhere efficient cytostatica. This Blood-Brain-Barrier (BBB) is for quite some time the target of sophisticated and nano-particle based transport mechanisms, however it is reported, that a boost of permeability for most of the brain can be achieved based on moderate temperature increase. One means to locally and reversibly increase the brain′s temperature and thus potentially opening the BBB may be achieved by illuminating the skull with infrared laser light, thus causing punctual heating and heat diffusion into the cortex. In extension of the common laser light guiding by glass fibres, we use a micro-positioned simple optics to focus a 1470 nm laser beam of approximately 500 ??m in diameter on the skull. The apparent opening of the BBB is evidenced by the localized spread of Evans Blue injected into the tail vein of said rat, binding to Albumin (64,6 kDa) in the body. This marker molecule is usually blocked from passing through the intact BBB, but under IR illumination for half a minute, it appeared in post mortem visible blobs. Temperature profiles and potential tissue damage are now under investigation by high speed thermal camera and post mortem histology.

    摘要: For multi-spectral imaging, both acquisition time of the spectral image set and the spectral bandwidth of each image have to be minimized. Ultimate performance can be achieved if the set of monochromatic (single-wavelength) spectral images is obtained with a single snapshot - a technique provisionally called “snapshot multi-spectral-line imaging” or SMSLI. Using contemporary RGB colour cameras, up to three spectral line images can be extracted from a snapshot image data cube at specific illumination that comprises only three spectral lines, each of them positioned within one of the detection bands (R, G or B) [1]. Techniques able to provide more spectral line images are under development, and optimal design enabling uniform illumination of target simultaneously by several laser lines is a key challenge.

  • 21.1: <i>Invited Paper:</i> Optical Radiation Safety Analysis for Laser Used as Illumination Products

    摘要: Illumination products using laser source have plenty of advantages, such as high conversion efficiency, more brightness, wide color gamut, long life and so on. However, due to the high energy density of laser, the optical radiation safety of laser used as illumination products should be studied and analyzed. First of all, the characteristics, advantages of laser used as illumination products are introduced. Then the international and national organizations, such as IEC/TC 76, IEC/TC 108, SAC/TC 284, are surveyed. In addition, standards and the corresponding relations related to laser used as illumination products are reviewed, especially for safety of laser products (IEC 60825) series standards, photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems (IEC 62741) series standards, Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment–Part 1: Safety requirements (IEC 62368-1:2018), as well as ICNIRP guidelines. Finally, optical radiation safety of some specific illumination products using lasers are discussed.

  • [Advances In Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics] Volume 68 || Collective motion of an atom array under laser illumination

    摘要: We develop a theoretical formalism for the study of light-induced motion of atoms trapped in a two-dimensional (2D) array, considering the effect of multiple scattering of light between the atoms. We find that the atomic motion can be described by a collective diffusion equation, wherein laser-induced dipole–dipole forces couple the motion of different atoms. This coupling leads to the formation of collective mechanical modes of the array atoms, whose spatial structure and stability depend on the parameters of the illuminating laser and the geometry of the 2D array. We demonstrate the application of our formalism for the analysis of light-induced heating of the 2D array. The presented approach should be useful for treating the optomechanical properties of recently proposed quantum optical platforms made of atomic arrays.

  • Plasmonic Nanobubbles in ‘Armored’ Surface Nanodroplets

    摘要: Plasmonic nanobubbles are bubbles that are formed from local heat generated by noble metal nanoparticles under illumination of light at resonance. Understanding the formation and behavior of plasmonic nanobubbles is important for a broad suite of applications that rely on enhanced local heating of nanoparticles, such as in biomedical treatments and solar energy conversion. Here, we investigate formation, growth and dissolution of plasmonic bubbles in a model system of oil nanodroplets in water. Gold nanoparticles were located at the surface of nanodroplets immobilized on a substrate. We followed temporal evolution of plasmonic nanobubbles from ~ 200 nm in radius and above. Our experimental results show that there is an upper limit of the bubble size set by hosting droplet size, beyond which the nanobubbles burst. Nanobubbles grew, following the same growth exponent that was reported for a sub-millimeter bubble in contact with a bulk organic solvent. When the laser was switched off, the nanobubbles could remain for several minutes, much longer than the bubbles formed directly in water. The findings from this work may be valuable for light-driven chemical conversion in droplets or photothermal treatments involving immiscible phases.
