  • Objective Quality Assessment of Image Enhancement Methods in Digital Mammography - A Comparative Study

    摘要: Mammography is the primary and most reliable technique for detection of breast cancer. Mammograms are examined for the presence of malignant masses and indirect signs of malignancy such as micro calcifications, architectural distortion and bilateral asymmetry. However, Mammograms are X-ray images taken with low radiation dosage which results in low contrast, noisy images. Also, malignancies in dense breast are difficult to detect due to opaque uniform background in mammograms. Hence, techniques for improving visual screening of mammograms are essential. Image enhancement techniques are used to improve the visual quality of the images. This paper presents the comparative study of different pre-processing techniques used for enhancement of mammograms in mini-MIAS data base. Performance of the image enhancement techniques is evaluated using objective image quality assessment techniques. They include simple statistical error metrics like PSNR and human visual system (HVS) feature based metrics such as SSIM, NCC, UIQI, and Discrete Entropy

    摘要: Aimed at the serious loss of marginal information when it is conducted with binaryzation in the edge extracting of weld pool image by using the method of mathematical morphology, one kind of improved plan is purposed in this paper. We can use local adaptive binarization method to carry out binaryzation, and then apply the median filtering to build connected region at the same time, use search fill algorithm to obtain the final binary image. We can use the method of mathematical morphology to select structural element with suitable shape and size and apply edge detection operator which is used four kinds of basic operation combinations of morphology to carry out edge detection for binary image. The simulation results show that this method can more accurately extract the image edge of welding pool on the basis of protecting marginal information of welding pool commendably.

  • Empirical system of image enhancement for digital microscopic pneumonia bacteria images

    摘要: In this paper the image processing method is used to enhance the pneumonia bacteria images. This paper recognized the bacteria images based on two domains. The enhancement techniques used for bacteria image enhancement were median filter, wiener filter, single scale retinex and multiscale retinex. Image enhancement has a very important role in digital image processing. The median and wiener filters were used for grayscale image enhancement. Then single scale retinex and multiscale retinex were used for color image enhancement. Based on performance metrics identified median filter is suitable for bacteria images in grayscale image enhancement and multiscale retinex is suitable for bacteria color image enhancement (Tab. 2, Fig. 8, Ref. 21).   • Single Image Haze Removal Using Hazy Particle Maps

    摘要: Hazes with various properties spread widely across flat areas with depth continuities and corner areas with depth discontinuities. Removing haze from a single hazy image is difficult due to its ill-posed nature. To solve this problem, this study proposes a modified hybrid median filter that performs a median filter to preserve the edges of flat areas and a hybrid median filter to preserve depth discontinuity corners. Recovered scene radiance, which is obtained by removing hazy particles, restores image visibility using adaptive nonlinear curves for dynamic range expansion. Using comparative studies and quantitative evaluations, this study shows that the proposed method achieves similar or better results than those of other state-of-the-art methods.

  • Implementation of Real-Time Post-Processing for High-Quality Stereo Vision

    摘要: We propose a novel post-processing algorithm and architecture that simultaneously uses the passive and active stereo vision information to improve the reliability of the three-dimensional disparity in a hybrid stereo vision system. The proposed architecture consists of four steps — left-right consistency checking, semi-2D hole filling, a tiny adaptive variance checking, and a 2D weighted median filter. The experimental results show that the error rate of the proposed algorithm (5.77%) is less than that of a raw disparity (10.12%) for a real-world camera image having a 1,280 × 720 resolution and maximum disparity of 256. Moreover, for the famous Middlebury stereo image sets, the proposed algorithm’s error rate (8.30%) is also less than that of the raw disparity (13.7%). The proposed architecture is implemented on a single commercial field-programmable gate array using only 13.01% of slice resources, which achieves a rate of 60 fps for 1,280 × 720 stereo images with a disparity range of 256.

  • A Time-Domain Computing Accelerated Image Recognition Processor With Efficient Time Encoding and Non-Linear Logic Operation

    摘要: Time-domain computing (TC) has drawn significant attention recently due to its highly efficient computation for applications such as image processing and neural network computing. This paper presents novel time-domain circuit techniques, including: 1) double-encoding strategy; 2) bit-scalable design that accelerates the performance compared with previous linear coding; and 3) shared time generator (TG) with variation-aware design technique which significantly improves the error tolerance of TC. A feature-extraction and vector-quantization processor accelerated by TC has been developed for real-time image recognition. A 55-nm prototype chip shows 72-fps/core (at 1.33 GHz) operation with up to 42% area and power saving from TC compared to the conventional digital implementation.

  • An effective image denoising using PPCA and classification of CT images using artificial neural networks

    摘要: The main aim of denoising is to remove the noise while recollecting as much possible important signal features. This appears to be very simple when considered under practical situations, where the type of images and noises are all variable parameters. This paper deals with removal of combination of noises from image and classification of normal and abnormal images. At first phase, median filter is used to remove the noises present in the images. To improve the denoised output, we are using PSM and PPCA with morphological operations, filter and region props. In the second phase, to analyse the denoised output, neural network-based classification is proposed. The use of artificial intelligent techniques for classification shows a great potential in this field. Hence the performance of neural network classifier is estimated in terms of training performance and classification accuracy and is compared with the existing method to show the system is effective.
