  • MINIATURIZED FREQUENCY SELECTIVE RASORBER BASED ON MEANDER-LINES LOADED LUMPED RESISTORS AND A COUPLED RESONATOR SPATIAL FILTER

    摘要: This paper presents a miniaturized frequency selective rasorber (FSR) with both wide absorption and transmission bands. The proposed FSR consists of a resistive sheet and a band-pass frequency-selective surface (FSS) with non-resonant constituting elements. The unit cell structure of the resistive sheet is a meander line loaded with four lumped resistors, which generate a wide absorption band from 2.4 to 6.2 GHz, while the layer of FSS is coupled resonator spatial filter (CRSF) that generates a wide transmission band from 7.5 to 10.2 GHz. Furthermore, there is a 10.5 mm air spacer between the resistive and FSS layers. The period of the FSR structure, which maintains its passband and absorption band performance, is only 10 mm (0.08λL). Simulated and measured results are compared and found to show good agreement.

    摘要: In this letter, a novel design of Ku-band end-launcher is presented. Return loss of -25dB with insertion loss of -0.5dB has been confirmed experimentally cover frequency range of 11~19GHz, bandwidth of 50% is attained. Nonstandard waveguide port with an internal dimension of 15mm*4.5mm is employed. Transversal miniaturization is achieved by contrast with Ku-band transitions terminated in standard waveguide WR62 with size of 15.8mm*7.9mm.

  • Compact Equal-Width Equal-Length Phase Shifter With Slow-Wave Half-Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide for 5G Applications

    摘要: The emerging fifth-generation (5G) wireless and mobile communications demand high-performance phase shifters to enable the multi-channel transmit/receive systems with phase control ability. In this work, a size-miniaturized wideband phase shifter based on slow-wave half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (SW-HMSIW) is presented. The proposed SW-HMSIW is consisting of conventional HMSIW section and periodically-patterned non-uniform microtrip polyline unit cells. Patterning polyline unit cells in HMSIW can effectively enhance the product of the equivalent permittivity and permeability of SW-HMSIW, so that the slow-wave effect can be exhibited and its associated size reduction will be further achieved. Moreover, lengths and widths of segments of the proposed polyline unit cell can influence the equivalent permittivity and permeability of the SW-HMSIW, and consequently change its phase constant and cutoff frequency. Hence, for a SW-HMSIW with a fixed physical length, an electrical length variation, i.e, phase shift, can be achieved as segments of the polyline employ various lengths or widths. Based on this principle, a wideband equal-width equal-length SW-HMSIW phase shifter is implemented. Measured results are in good agreement with simulated ones, with a phase shift of 90.5 ± 3 degree and a fractional bandwidth of 43.0% achieved. Compared with some similar reported works, the proposed one shows a size reduction more than 80% as well as good magnitude and phase deviations performance. Moreover, its miniaturized size and equal-width equal-length structure make it suitable for the complex multi-channel modules and networks of the 5G applications.

    摘要: A compact dual-band branch-line coupler for the application of mobile phones has been proposed using multilayer PCB technology. The coupler contains six miniaturization units and two extra transmission lines (TLs). The miniaturization unit is introduced to replace the λ/4 TL for size reducing. For further miniaturization, the overall structure of the coupler uses multi- layer technique. The proposed coupler has high isolation and flexible frequency ratio. A coupler operating at 2.4/3.5 GHz is designed for verification. The size of the BLC is about 0.025 λg 2, reduced by 92% compared with the conventional hybrid.

  • Design of miniaturized high selectivity folded substrate integrated waveguide band pass filter with Koch fractal

    摘要: This paper proposes the design of a novel double folded substrate integrated waveguide (FSIW) band pass filter (BPF) based on Koch space-filling curve (SFC). The folded SIW filter is incorporated with first and second iteration levels of Koch curve on central conducting layer. A prototype of second iteration Koch fractal FSIW BPF has been fabricated using substrate having dielectric constant 2.55 and thickness 0.508 mm for each layer and then tested. The fabricated second order filter has merits of compact size (0.204 λ0 2), high roll off rate (82.2 dB/GHz) and low insertion loss (<0.85 dB) in the X band.

  • Anatomy of the free tantulus larva (Crustacea: Tantulocarida) studied with confocal laser scanning microscopy: An extreme case of miniatuarisation in the Arthropoda

    摘要: The Tantulocarida is a small taxon of microscopic parasitic crustaceans that has a sophisticated life-cycle. The unique larval stage is called a tantulus, which is adapted to both free-swimming in sediments and attached parasitic mode of life. The anatomy of free-swimming tantulus larvae was studied using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) for the first time. This revealed previously undocumented details of the internal organisation of the Tantulocarida. Structures known to degrade after larval settlement were observed intact for the first time. The cement glands appeared to consist of six large, spherical cells with relatively large nuclei. The body muscles, proboscis and stylet retractors and protractors were able to be described in detail, whilst the central nervous system, including the compact brain and ventral nerve cord, were observed for the first time. This study has revealed the changes that occur in the internal organisation of the larvae after settlement, and provides a new understanding of certain general aspects of tantulocarid anatomy. The morphological adaptations to parasitism and the relatively minute size of these crustaceans are elucidated. Several aspects of arthropod miniaturisation are illustrated, using tantulocarids as examples. The potential for CLSM in studies of rare, microscopic arthropods is discussed.

  • Fully Coupled Model for Frequency Response Simulation of Miniaturized Cantilever-Based Photoacoustic Gas Sensors

    摘要: To support the development of miniaturized photoacoustic gas sensors, a fully coupled ?nite element model for a frequency response simulation of cantilever-based photoacoustic gas sensors is introduced in this paper. The model covers the whole photoacoustic process from radiation absorption to pressure transducer vibration, and considers viscous damping loss. After validation with experimental data, the model was further applied to evaluate the possibility of further optimization and miniaturization of a previously reported sensor design.

    摘要: In this paper, we introduce a novel reconfigurable antenna for implementation in 5G wireless systems. The proposed antenna is a leaky-wave antenna based on the half-mode substrate integrated waveguide. By introducing sets of switches over the top conductor plane, the antenna scans the space electronically. In the proposed antenna, beam steering is due to disturbances in the surface current under the influence of changing the bias voltage of the switches. This antenna design is to be implemented in 5G wireless communication systems. Hence, the center frequency is chosen as 28.5 GHz. The length, width, and height of the antenna are 68mm, 25mm, and 0.3mm, respectively. The compactness and configurability of the antenna makes it a suitable candidate for 5G wireless systems.

  • Applications of Silicon Photonics in Sensors and Waveguides || Introductory Chapter: Unique Applications of Silicon Photonics

    摘要: Current technological demands require two key components: miniaturization of devices and integration of multifunctional components onto a single chip offered at low cost. The continuous improvement in meeting the demands of integrated circuits has been enabled by incremental efforts of miniaturization of the transistor. Moore’s law states that the minimum feature size shrinks by a factor of 0.7 every 2 years. There has been tremendous growth in the areas of semiconductors and electronics to meet these requirements. However, the research on silicon photonics started only in the 1980s. The advantage of silicon is that its properties can be tailored by doping, which makes it suitable for applications both in electronics and photonics. For useful applications, the technology also plays a major role along with the material. Here, a few applications in photonics domain have been demonstrated.

  • Ultra-Miniaturized Low-Profile Angularly-Stable Frequency Selective Surface Design

    摘要: In this study, an ultra-miniaturized low-profile angularly-stable frequency selective surface (FSS) based on 2.5-dimension convoluted interwoven element is designed. The dimension of FSS element is 0.014λ0 × 0.014λ0, where the λ0 represents the free-space wavelength of resonance frequency. The thickness is only 0.0015λ0. When the FSS is illuminated by electromagnetic wave, the frequency selective properties perform stable under different incident angles up to 85° for both TE and TM polarization. For better understanding, the operation mechanism, the design procedure, distribution of surface current, and equivalent circuit are presented. A prototype of proposed FSS is fabricated, the measurement results prove the validity of simulated ones. To further improve the performance, using the same design procedure, the size and thickness of designed FSS have been reduced to 0.0053λ0 × 0.0053λ0 and 0.00061λ0, respectively. Since the resonance frequency of proposed FSS is adjustable at any desired frequency, an ultra-miniaturized low-profile angularly-stable FSS for GSM 900 band has been designed. The designed FSS can be applied in GSM shielding effectively.
