Comparative analysis of capacity oriented Integrated AMI modulation technique for the deployment of radio over fiber system
摘要: To improve the spectral efficiency and to reduce non-linear distortion in the optical system, various advanced modulation techniques have been investigated for radio over fiber (RoF) system. The investigation indicates the high data rate distortion less transmission for long-haul RoF system still further investigation is required to improve spectral efficiency and to get the reduction in signal degradation. In this paper, an advanced modulation technique referred as integrated alternate mark inversion modulation technique based upon external modulation (electro-absorption modulator) has been designed and simulated. The results show better performance in terms of performance metrics i.e. Q-factor (25.15) and BER (4e-140) and also enhance the data transmission capabilities up to 100 Gbps covering the long distance of 250 km resulting a reasonable reduction in signal degradation particularly chromatic dispersion effects for long-haul transmissions.

Performance evaluation of mode group power coupling for short reach SDM
摘要: The profound understanding of mode coupling in spatial multiplexed optical systems is required for performance optimization purposes. In this contribution different optical coupler technologies are compared with respect to their bit-error rate (BER) performance as multiplex devices in a (2 × 2) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) environment. Therefore, the power coupling coefficients between mode groups for all testbed components are determined at 1327 nm with a method based on impulse response measurements. This method and its refinements are presented in this work. By taking the obtained power coupling coefficients, the MIMO impulse responses are simulated and the corresponding BER performance for different launch parameters is studied. The simulation setup includes single-mode fiber (SMF) to multi-mode fiber (MMF) splices aligned with different radial eccentricities for mode group specific excitation, different multi-mode couplers for mode multiplexing, a 1 km OM4 grade MMF and a multi-mode fusion coupler for demultiplexing. Here, the setup with the customized fusion coupler shows the best BER results in comparison to other coupler technologies. In addition, the optimal choice of the SMF to MMF launch eccentricity highly depends on the implemented coupler technology. Particularly, deviations of 2 μm from the optimal launch setup can lead to a tenfold increase in the BER. It is noteworthy, that the optimal setup does not always include the center launch condition.

Recent Advances in Multifunctional Sensing Technology on a Perspective of Multi-Sensor System: A Review
摘要: Due to rapid advancement in technology, recently a significant amount of work has been carried out in the field of multi-mode sensor and multifunctional sensor. A single unit of multifunctional sensor provides multiple measurements which eventually reduces the cost of multiple sensors and makes the system compact. Though the risk of sensor failure and reliability of the multifunctional sensor is always imminent, researchers are working out different methods to make the sensor fault tolerant. Multifunctional sensor are getting widespread acceptance in variety of fields. This paper provides a review of recent advances in multifunctional sensor technology in the perspective of multi-sensor system. Different aspects of design and implementation of multifunctional sensor technology has been addressed in this paper. This paper can serve as a basic reading material for students and researchers pursuing research on multifunctional sensor.

Development of a new multi-mode NIR laser system for photodynamic therapy
摘要: Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) has been used in various fields especially in cancer treatment. In PDT, designing a light source has vital importance in order to achieve a successful treatment. Among the light sources, Lasers are important candidates for their precise wavelengths to activate the photosensitizers (PS), coherent nature and fiber-coupled usage. In order to achieve perfect PDT treatment, the Laser light sources needs to be embedded with high stability current, temperature controllers and closed loop control systems. In this study, a novel Multi-mode PDT Laser system (MPTL) was developed with four different radiation modes. Importantly, Super Pulse Mode (SPM) was implemented for the first time among the PDT Laser systems in the open literature to minimize the thermal damage to the target tissue. The proposed system achieved high optical output stability by precise current and temperature control of the Laser resonator. The MPTL achieved high optical output stability ( ± 1mW) in the range of 0–1500 mW, high wavelength stability ( ± 1nm) at 635 nm, and high temperature stability ( ± 0.2 °C) in all radiation modes. The MPTL system with super pulse mode can be safely used for wide range of PDT clinical applications.

摘要: Low phase noise oscillator is very important for communication and high-resolution imaging system. A small size synthesizer realization using inter-modal output of multi-mode semiconductor laser is proposed and tested in this paper. It uses the forced technique self-injection locking, self-phase locking combination to stabilize the related inter-modal output. The realized phase noise is -98 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset at X-band operation which shows 68 dB improvement comparing with inter-modal free running output.

Integrated Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer in SOI Based on Mode Selection and Bragg Reflection
摘要: We present a compact optical add-drop multiplexer in silicon-on-insulator based on combining mode selection with Bragg reflection. The add-drop channel has a 3-dB bandwidth of 2 nm, an extinction ratio of 30 dB, and an interferometric crosstalk of less than –42 dB. We characterize the inter-channel and interferometric crosstalk performance using BER measurements for 10-Gb/s NRZ data and obtain crosstalk induced power penalties less than 3.5 dB.

摘要: Short-term traf?c prediction plays a critical role in many important applications of intelligent transportation systems such as traf?c congestion control and smart routing, and numerous methods have been proposed to address this issue in the literature. However, most, if not all, of them suffer from the inability to fully use the rich information in traf?c data. In this paper, we present a novel short-term traf?c ?ow prediction approach based on dynamic tensor completion (DTC), in which the traf?c data are represented as a dynamic tensor pattern, which is able capture more information of traf?c ?ow than traditional methods, namely, temporal variabilities, spatial characteristics, and multimode periodicity. A DTC algorithm is designed to use the multimode information to forecast traf?c ?ow with a low-rank constraint. The proposed method is evaluated on real-world data sets and compared with other state-of-the-art methods, and the ef?cacy of the proposed approach is validated on the experiments of traf?c ?ow prediction, particularly when dealing with incomplete traf?c data.

A multimode graphene plasmonic perfect absorber at terahertz frequencies
摘要: Graphene, a new smart material, has attracted remarkable attention in recent years owing to its tunable band structure and strong light–matter interaction. Compared to typical absorber, graphene absorber is recently considered as a highly promising candidate for multi-mode purpose. Here, a new tunable hexagonal-shape graphene-based THz absorber is proposed. To achieve nearly perfect broadband terahertz absorption, six layers of graphene is utilized. By introducing such a unique gradient, the continuous plasmon resonances of the absorber can be directly excited and broadband terahertz absorption can be achieved. Additionally, contrary to conventional absorbers which often neglect the high-order modes, particularly in THz regime, the proposed absorber has the advantage of achieving unit absorbance peak not only for the first resonance mode, but for higher order modes. To validate the sensitivity of the proposed absorber, frequency sensitivity and amplitude sensitivity are calculated. The highest frequency sensitivity is achieved 15.3012 for the second mode at ?? = 60? and the highest amplitude sensitivity is estimated to be 45.1482 for the fourth mode at the same incident angle.

Microstructural Characteristics of Cement-Based Materials Fabricated Using Multi-Mode Fiber Laser
摘要: Cement-based materials are the most prevalent construction materials, and the conventional cutting techniques are still mostly used for fabricating the materials. However, these conventional cutting methods could generate undesirable micro-cracks and remove unintentional structural sections. This experimental study aims to evaluate the e?ects of the new fabricating method using laser on the microstructural characteristics of the cement-based materials. The experimental variables are laser cutting speed, water to cement ratio and material compositions. In order to compare the microstructure before and after the laser interaction, the microstructure of the cut surface is observed through scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-Ray (SEM/EDX). After the laser interaction, the Material Removed Zone (MRZ) and Heat A?ected Zone (HAZ) are observed on the cut surface. In MRZ, it is found that the glassy layer is thickened by an increasing amount of silicate-based materials in cement-based materials. In addition, it concluded that the amount of silicate-based material mixed in the cement-based materials a?ects the laser cutting quality.
