The Tvs of Tomorrow: How RCA's Flat-Screen Dreams Led to the First Lcds
摘要: The Optimized Energy Degrading Optics (OEDO) beamline is an upgrade of the High-resolution beamline at the RI Beam Factory at RIKEN. Its purpose is to measure nuclear reactions induced by radioactive ions at 10–50 MeV/u. The main components of the OEDO beamline are two superconducting quadrupole triplet magnets and one radio-frequency deflector, which were recently installed. This setup produces slowed-down, well-focused radioactive-isotope beams by using a degree of freedom in the longitudinal phase space of the beam. This paper describes the OEDO beamline in detail, discusses the unique concept of its ion optics, and demonstrates its feasibility by conducting measurements with medium-mass radioactive-isotope beams.

Deep inelastic scattering on a nucleus using holography
摘要: We consider deep inelastic scattering (DIS) on a nucleus described using a density expansion. In leading order, the scattering is dominated by the incoherent scattering on individual nucleons distributed using the Thomas-Fermi approximation. We use the holographic structure functions for DIS scattering on single nucleons to make a nonperturbative estimate of the nuclear structure function in leading order in the density. Our results are compared to the fits from data in the large-x regime.

Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy application to reaction-diffusion studies in nuclear materials
摘要: We explore the possible use of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to analyze active materials in hot cells or even inside nuclear reactors where high radiation levels prevent the use of conventional techniques. LIBS measurements of the reaction-diffusion process in alloys used in the nuclear industry were compared with standard techniques such as micrography, scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-rays spectroscopy. The LIBS capability to qualitatively detect the above process was established. Also, the average speed of the reaction-diffusion process was measured through a temperature-dependent effective parameter K.

摘要: Recently, position-patch-based face hallucination methods have received much attention, and obtained promising progresses due to their effectiveness and efficiency. A locality-constrained double low-rank representation (LCDLRR) method is proposed for effective face hallucination in this paper. LCDLRR attempts to directly use the image-matrix based regression model to compute the representation coefficients to maintain the essential structural information. On the other hand, LCDLRR imposes a low-rank constraint on the representation coefficients to adaptively select the training samples that belong to the same subspace as the inputs. Moreover, a locality constraint is also enforced to preserve the locality and the sparsity simultaneously. Compared with previous methods, our proposed LCDLRR considers locality manifold structure, cluster constraints, and structure error simultaneously. Extensive experimental results on standard face hallucination databases indicate that our proposed method outperforms some state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of both visual quantity and objective metrics.

Searching the crystal structure of silicon using the generalized scaled hypersphere search method with the rapid nuclear motion approximation
摘要: The scaled hypersphere search method with the rapid nuclear motion approximation was applied for the prediction of the crystal structure of silicon. Five well-known structures and one novel structure were found. The space group of the novel structure found is Imma. By comparing this with the two known silicon structures in the same space group, it is found that one of these well-known Imma structures and the novel Imma structure are similar. According to our ab initio calculations based on the projector augmented wave method with the Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof functional, the novel structure is a semiconductor, with calculated band gap 0.89 eV.

A radioxenon detection system using PIPS and CZT
摘要: This paper introduces and describes the initial characterizations of a prototype beta-gamma coincidence detection system that utilizes a PIPSBox and two coplanar CdZnTe detectors for atmospheric radioxenon identification and nuclear test ban treaty verification. Coincidences between four independent detecting bodies are identified in real time via a custom coincidence module implemented in a field-programmable gate array. The system is compact, maintains simple readout electronics, and provides high resolution radiation detection at room temperature operation. Preliminary measurements using 137Cs and 131mXe were conducted to optimize various system parameters to achieve optimal energy resolution of key spectral features. The purpose of this research was to explore the utility of these materials and methods for radioxenon monitoring in the International Monitoring System.

Investigation of Dimethylammonium Solubility in MAPbBr <sub/>3</sub> Hybrid Perovskite: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Optical Properties
摘要: The possible existence of mixed methylammonium (MA)/dimethylammonium (DMA) lead bromide hybrid perovskites of general formula MA1?xDMAxPbBr3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) was investigated. A combined X-ray di?raction and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance approach indicates that DMA can be incorporated up to about x = 0.30 while retaining the cubic lattice of MAPbBr3. By increasing the DMA content (x), the absorption shows a progressive blue shift and the band gap moves from about 2.17 eV (x = 0) to about 2.23 (x = 0.30) with a concomitant slightly faster recombination in the mixed cation powders.

Shaping pulses of radiation detectors into a true Gaussian form
摘要: A digital shaper for conversion of detector pulses with a short leading edge and a long exponential tail into a true Gaussian form is proposed and analysed in this paper. The width of Gaussian pulses can be several times smaller than the rise time of the input pulses, i.e. considerably shorter than the undistorted output pulses provided by standard shapers. The algorithm of the true Gaussian shaper is presented in the paper. The output pulses and noises of the true Gaussian shapers are compared with those of standard shapers for different widths of shaped pulses. The analyses has shown that the true Gaussian shaping can be advantageous for detection of strongly overlapped pulses which appear at high particle fluxes in the detector input.

Analysis of Th and U in thorium-based mixed-oxide fuel using wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer
摘要: A precise and accurate compositional characterization methodology using wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) spectrometry for mixed oxide nuclear fuels is reported. The methodology involves pelletization of standards and samples. The calibration plots were made by plotting the percent intensity of analyte X-ray lines against their amount percent. The relative standard deviation were 0.4% and 0.25%, respectively for uranium and thorium, having U ranging from 2.85 to 4.2 (wt%). The analytical results were compared with chemical analysis method and were in good agreement. The developed WDXRF method is non-destructive, fast and better in comparison to chemical analysis methods.
