    摘要: This paper proposes a novel palm vein recognition method based on a competitive coding scheme using 2D log Gabor filtres. The proposed method consists of two major steps: (i) inspired by the bitwise competitive coding, the feature extraction employs 2D log Gabor filtering where the final feature map is composed by the winning codes of the lowest filters’ bank response, and (ii) the matching process uses the Jaccard distance as a metric to capture efficiently the similarities between the feature maps and allowing to make a decision. The experiments carried out on the challenging MS-PolyU database have shown that the proposed method yields a significant performance gains compared to existing state-of-the-art methods.

  • A Palm-vein recognition algorithm based on LPP and HM-LBP

    摘要: In this paper, an algorithm based on locality preserving projection (LPP) for palm-vein was proposed. The feature of palm-vein was extracted by Hierarchical multiscale local binary pattern(HM-LBP), and then the dimension was reduced by LPP. Lastly, the palm-vein was classified by normalized correlation classifier. The algorithm was tested on the near-infrared database of the multi-spectral palm database of Hong Kong polytechnic university. The experiment results show that the algorithm can achieve ideal recognition accuracy of 99.92% and the speediness is able to fit for the real-time palm-vein recognition system.

  • moxMaple3: a Photoswitchable Fluorescent Protein for PALM and Protein Highlighting in Oxidizing Cellular Environments

    摘要: The ability of fluorescent proteins (FPs) to fold robustly is fundamental to the autocatalytic formation of the chromophore. While the importance of the tertiary protein structure is well appreciated, the impact of individual amino acid mutations for FPs is often not intuitive and requires direct testing. In this study, we describe the engineering of a monomeric photoswitchable FP, moxMaple3, for use in oxidizing cellular environments, especially the eukaryotic secretory pathway. Surprisingly, a point mutation to replace a cysteine substantially improved the yield of correctly folded FP capable of chromophore formation, regardless of cellular environment. The improved folding of moxMaple3 increases the fraction of visibly tagged fusion proteins, as well as FP performance in PALM super-resolution microscopy, and thus makes moxMaple3 a robust monomeric FP choice for PALM and optical highlighting applications.
