  • Experimental investigation of the soiling effect on the performance of monocrystalline photovoltaic systems

    摘要: Due to the high solar irradiation records, desert regions are the most suitable for hosting photovoltaic power plants [1]. Nevertheless, these regions are characterized by the presence of dust and aerosols that can be deposited on the surface of the panels causing a considerable drop on the plants efficiency, thus, the power production. The objective of this study is to measure and understand the soiling’s effect on the performances of a 16.56 kWc monocrystalline grid connected PV system, after six months of exposition without cleaning at Green Energy Park research facility [2]. This facility is located in the mid-south of Morocco and characterized by a semi-arid climate. Besides, chemical analysis of the dust composition has been conducted to have an idea on the aerosols origin emission source. Results shown, that the cumulative power drop of the soiled string after six months was around 124 kWh. The daily power drop, in average, is of 2.7kWh/day during the dry period and of 0.07kWh/day during the rainy period. This is linked to a daily soiling rate of 0.32%/day and 0.02%/day during the dry and the rainy periods respectively. Regarding the dust chemical-analysis, the XRD results highlight the presence of silicon, alumina, calcium, iron, which are may be coming from a construction site close by. Besides, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus that may be coming from a phosphate mine in the area of our field of study.

  • Performance evaluation and economical analysis of three photovoltaic systems installed in an institutional building in Errachidia, Morocco

    摘要: A study was conducted in order to evaluate the performance and the Economic analysis of three photovoltaic system connected to the grid (5.94 kWp) in Errachidia city in Morocco. Several parameters of the PV systems design were evaluated such as: the total energy generated, final yield, reference yield, performance ratio, capacity factor and monthly system efficiency. The economic input of the three systems was determined based on economic return of electricity generation. The highest values in terms of daily final yield (YF = 5.26 h/day), performance ratio (PR = 82 %), capacity factor (CF = 21.93 %), levelized cost of electricity (LCOE = 0.068 €/kWh) and payback time (PB = 12), were recorded by pc-Si solar module. Therefore, this PV system technology could be recommended in the future research projects in Morocco.

  • Comparative study of photovoltaic solar systems connected to the grid: Performance evaluation and economic analysis

    摘要: The aim of this study targets the performance analysis and the economic evaluation of two photovoltaic systems connected to the grid of 4.08 KWp, located in the same place in the roof of the research building at the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies Mohammedia, Morocco. This plant is composed of two types (mc-Si and pc-Si) of PV crystalline technology. The experimental data has been recorded over one-year period (2015). The assessed parameters of the PV systems include the total energy generated, final yield, reference yield, performance ratio, capacity factor and monthly system efficiency. The economic evaluation of the tow systems is calculated using capital budgeting methods to determine economic profitability in terms of the economic return of electricity generation. The highest values in terms of daily final yield (YF =5.26h/day), performance ratio (PR=82%), capacity factor (CF=21.93%), levelized cost of electricity (LCOE=0.068€/kWh) and payback time (PB=12), have been recorded by pc-Si solar module. Therefore, this PV system technology could be recommended, as well, in the future research projects in Morocco.

  • Integrability assessment methodology for building integrated photovoltaics: concept and application

    摘要: The existing evaluation of Building Integrated Photovoltaic systems (BIPV), limit to the system’s electrical performance, similar to conventional PV ground-mounted systems. BIPV has to deliver on both the roles of the society, building and PV alike while catering to the needs of economically. The current paper introduces the concept of Integrability, which is an attempt towards a holistic approach in evaluating BIPV systems. Integrability Methodology for BIPV evaluation has been proposed, for urban localities, which can be adopted for various PV configurations, building typologies and climatic zones. An Integrability Index has also been devised, considering various building performance factors, to evaluate and compare the performance of BIPV structures. The methodology has been applied to a 5.25 kWp BIPV system and the index has been computed to be 0.17 (on a scale of 0–1) and the various strategies that improve the index (up to 0.56) have also been discussed.

  • Performance ratio prediction of photovoltaic pumping system based on grey clustering and second curvelet neural network

    摘要: Performance ratio is an important parameter of measuring the quality and efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) pumping system, which should be predicted correctly to provide guidance for regulating the measurements of reducing losses of every part, therefore this research proposed a prediction model of performance ratio of PV pumping system based on grey clustering and second curvelet neural network. The meaning of performance ratio is analyzed and the main affecting factors of the performance level for PV pumping system are also summarized. The second curvelet neural network is constructed combing the second curvelet transform and feed forward neural network, and the structure of second curvelet neural network is designed. The classification of training and testing samples are confirmed based on the improved grey clustering model, and the corresponding mathematical models are studied. The firefly algorithm is used to optimize the second curvelet neural network. The grey classifications of training samples are confirmed based on grey clustering, which are used to train the second curvelet neural network with different structure optimized by firefly with different parameters, and then the testing samples are used to carry out prediction analysis. Simulation results show that the second curvelet neural network has highest prediction precision and efficiency, which can correctly and efficiently predict the performance ratio of PV pumping system.

  • Assessment of 50?kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic plant at The ICFAI University, Jaipur: A case study

    摘要: Currently, India is espousing nonconventional energy sources at an express rate owing to concerns about climate change, emission of harmful greenhouse gases (GHG), and exhausting conventional energy sources. The solar photovoltaic (SPV) plants are, hence, expected to play a noteworthy role to meet energy security and sustainability goals. Contemporary studies reveal substantial ecological concerns associated with installing the ground mounted SPV plants in urban locations. Further observations depict that aforementioned plants need additional land, transmission, and distribution infrastructures. Consequently, rooftop SPV plants are the best solution to produce energy in urban locations, owing to the availability of a large number of empty rooftop spaces with least capacity expenditure. The present article discusses the techno-economic and ecological aspects of a 50 kWp rooftop SPV plant installed at ICFAI University, Jaipur. The plant has produced around 64.149 MWh in the year 2017. The technical assessment focuses on the effects of the meteorological parameters upon energy generation factors. The annual average final yield, reference yield, capacity utilization factor, and performance ratio found to be 106.9 kWh/kWp/month, 149.7 kWh/kWp/month, 14.64 and 70%, respectively. The economic parameters like net present value, internal rate of return, profitability index, and payback period are computed with 0–50% subsidy rates, which supports the financial viability of the plant. The plant contributed significantly to reducing GHG emissions by mitigating 102 t CO2, 128 kg SO2, 268 kg NOx, and 7,033 kg ash in the year 2017 as evident from the ecological investigation.

    摘要: This paper provides field generated data for single-axis-tracker (SAT) photo voltaic (PV) modules subjected to the semi-arid Northern Cape environment of South Africa. The research objectives are the investigation of the effects of dust soiling on PV module performance and the application of experimental dust mitigation methods. This includes the use of a hydrophobic anti-soiling coating and also the execution of a self-cleaning manoeuvre by the SAT systems. Two SAT systems were deployed to serve as experimental platform, from which data was obtained for a three month period (97 days). Raw data validation is established with comprehensive weather monitoring (ambient temperature, wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, pressure, and humidity), irradiance and PV module back sheet temperatures recorded, in accordance with the IEC61724 standard. An intelligent device was used to extract Current-Voltage (I-V) curves from individual PV modules. Maximum PV module power output is derived from the measured I-V curves, validated with a single-diode curve fitting routine. The comparative study between the different PV modules is done with a performance ratio (PR), defined as the temperature and irradiance corrected performance factor of a PV module. Contrary to the initial hypothesis, results indicated that the hydrophobic coating actually promoted dust soiling. The applied self-cleaning capability of the SAT system did not yield any conclusive results as a dust mitigation method. Finally, interesting in-field observations are discussed.

  • Performance evaluation of building-integrated photovoltaic systems for residential buildings in southern India

    摘要: The integration of photovoltaic modules into the building structure is a challenging task with respect to power generation of PV module and the effect of incident solar radiation. The performance of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules varies depending upon the orientation and azimuth angle of the building. In this work, the year-round performance and economic feasibility analysis of grid-connected building-integrated photovoltaic (GBIPV) modules is reported for the hot and humid climatic regional condition at Kovilpatti (9°10'00"N, 77°52'00"E), Tamil Nadu, India. The appropriate mounting structures are provided, to experimentally simulate the performance of GBIPV modules at various orientations and inclination angles (0° to 90°). The result indicated that the optimum orientation for installation of BIPV modules in the fa?ade and walls is found to be east while that for a pitched roof south orientation is recommended. The overall average annual performance ratio, capacity utilisation factor, array capture loss and system losses are found to be 0.83, 23%, 0.07 (h/day), and 0.17 (h/day), respectively. In addition, the economic feasibility of grid connected PV system for residential buildings in Tamil Nadu, India is analysed using HOMER by incorporating both a net metering process and electricity tariff.

  • Hourly PV production estimation by means of an exportable Multiple Linear Regression model

    摘要: The current state of photovoltaic (PV) electricity integration is demanding several strategies that control the optimal performance of PV plants. Cleaning the PV plant, controlling PV production or the estimation of the electricity generation, are some relevant items related to the PV systems. In general, the soiling, the clouds and another climatological factors are involved in the final PV production. For knowing the performance of a PV system, it is necessity to model the PV plant behavior according to these relevant variables. In this work, a Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model has been presented to determine the hourly PV production by using the Performance Ratio (PR) factor, according to different technologies: Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) and multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si). In this sense, data from several PV plants were studied in different Chile regions: San Pedro de Atacama and Antofagasta. With this study, it has been determined that the model can be extrapolated to different climatological emplacements, where generally, the root mean square error (RMSE) presents values lower than 16% in all cases, having the best result the CdTe technology.
