Influence of Platelet Aggregate Formation in Blood Samples on Light Transmission Aggregometry Results
摘要: Background: Light transmission aggregometry is a standard method used to evaluate platelet function. However, in clinical settings, light transmission aggregometry results sometimes fail to reflect actual platelet hyperactivity. In patients with suspected platelet hyperactivity such as thrombosis, platelet aggregates are frequently detected in citrated blood samples using a scattergram of a hematology analyzer. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of platelet aggregate formation on light transmission aggregometry results. Methods: We used 19 citrated blood samples in which platelet aggregate formation was intentionally induced by a hematology analysis process. Employing fully automated light transmission aggregometry and agonists including adenosine diphosphate or collagen, light transmission aggregometry maximum aggregation percentage, platelet count, and mean platelet volume of platelet-rich plasma before and after platelet aggregate formation were evaluated. Results: Light transmission aggregometry maximum aggregation percentage with adenosine diphosphate or collagen was significantly lower in the samples after than before platelet aggregate formation. Platelet count and mean platelet volume were both decreased by platelet aggregate formation (P < .01), suggesting that maximum aggregation percentage reduction was caused by the decrease in activated large platelets in the platelet-rich plasma. Conclusion: This study clarified that platelet aggregate formation in blood samples interfered with an accurate assessment of platelet hyperactivity. To ensure reliability of light transmission aggregometry results, we must confirm that platelet aggregates have not formed in the sample, especially in those of patients with platelet hyperactivity.

Hydrothermal synthesis and photocatalytic properties of CuGaO2/ZnO hexagonal platelet hybrids
摘要: Delafossite CuGaO2 as a p-type semiconductor is classified as a wide band-gap semiconductor owing to direct transitions on the high energy side. Solid state reaction and sol-gel synthesis are applicable as traditional methods for synthesizing delafossite CuGaO2. However, both synthesis methods require high temperatures, and the sol-gel method additionally requires a nitrogen gas atmosphere. In this study, hexagonal-platelet CuGaO2 is synthesized using a hydrothermal method, which can also be adapted to the synthesis of the CuGaO2/ZnO hybrids. As a result, it was found that the surface of platelet CuGaO2 particles could be used to create hybrids with n-type ZnO semiconductors. This paper also presents the optical band-gap energy and photocatalytic properties of hexagonal-platelet CuGaO2 and CuGaO2/ZnO hybrids.

Thulium Laser Vapoenucleation of the Prostate (ThuVEP) in Men at High Cardiovascular Risk and on Antithrombotic Therapy: A Single-Center Experience
摘要: Bleeding is the most common complication of transurethral resection of the prostate and simple open prostatectomy, especially in men on antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy. The present study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of thulium laser vapoenucleation of the prostate (ThuVEP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia in patients on chronic antithrombotic medications. Between January 2015 and December 2019, 88 men underwent the procedure under antithrombotic agents in our center. The mean age was 74.7 ± 6.1 years. Median prostate volume was 66.5 mL. Patients on oral anticoagulants were bridged to low-molecular-weight heparin (n = 35). Aspirin (n = 39), clopidogrel (n = 10), and ticlopidine (n = 4) were maintained. Of the patients, 69.3% had an American Society of Anesthesiologists score ≥ 3. Blood loss at 24 h was comparable in all groups. Median catheterization length and postoperative stays were 2 and 3 days respectively. Acute cardiovascular events occurred in 2 patients (2.3%). Of the patients, 4 required prolonged bladder irrigation, 2 required blood transfusions, 1 required a cystoscopy for bleeding control, and 1 required a suprapubic cystostomy for blood clot evacuation. No patients died within 30 days of being discharged. Late complications occurred in 3 (3.8%) patients (1 optical urethrotomy and 1 bladder neck incision for stenosis; 1 acute myocardial infarction). All follow-up visits (1, 6, and 12-month) showed a significant improvement in all urinary parameters compared to baseline. ThuVEP appears to be a feasible surgical option in high-risk patients on antithrombotic regimens, with acceptable postoperative morbidity, good functional outcome, and low incidence of medium-term reoperation rate.

A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Platelet-Rich Plasma, Low-Level Laser Therapy, and Complex Decongestive Physiotherapy in Patients with Lower Limb Lymphedema
摘要: Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous concentrated preparation of platelets characterized by lymphangiogenetic and tissue-repairing effects. Although PRP has been safely used in many different fields, there is no clinical study regarding the use of PRP in lymphedema treatment in humans. We assessed the clinical outcomes of PRP in patients with lower extremity lymphedema (LEL) in a randomized controlled trial. Methods and Results: Patients with secondary LEL were randomly allocated to one of three groups consisting of treatment with PRP with complex decongestive physiotherapy (PRP+CDP group), low-level laser therapy with CDP (LLLT+CDP group), and only CDP (CDP group). Assessment of Lymphedema Quality of-Life Questionnaire (LYMQOL) for health-related quality of life, lower-extremity-circumference (LEC) for edema, tissue dielectric constant (TDC) for extremity volume, 6-minute walking test (6MWT) for functional capacity, and numeric rating scale (NRS) scoring for extremity fullness were evaluated both before and after treatment. Forty-five patients (68.8% female) with mean age 40.84 – 15.81 years were included in the study. Significant differences in LYMQOL, LEC, NRS, and TDC values both before and after treatment were found in all groups; however, there were no statistically significant difference in values between the three groups. In the PRP+CDP group, LYMQOL values had a larger effect size than the other two groups. Significant differences in 6MWT values both before and after treatment were found in PRP+CDP and LLLT+CDP groups; however, there was no statistically significant difference in the CDP group. Conclusion: This is the first clinical study to evaluate the usage of PRP in patients with secondary LEL. PRP might be an additional treatment option of lymphedema management; however, more clinical trials in humans are needed to yield more evidence in the usage of PRP in patients with lymphedema.

Clinical and histopathological comparison of microneedling combined with platelets rich plasma versus Fractional Erbium-Doped Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Er: YAG) Laser 2940a??nm in treatment of atrophic post traumatic scar: A randomized controlled study.
摘要: Background: Different modalities have been tried for treating atrophic post traumatic scars. Objective: To compare the efficacy of microneedling combined with PRP with that of Fractional Er: YAG laser in treating post-traumatic atrophic scars. Methods: 45 patients with atrophic post traumatic scars were subdivided into three groups. Group I subjected to four sessions of skin microneedling followed by topical application of platelet rich plasma (PRP) immediately after each session. Group II subjected to the same protocol of treatment but for 6 sessions. Group III subjected to 4 sessions of Fractional Er: YAG laser at four weeks intervals for four sessions. Response to treatment was assessed clinically using the Quartile Grading Scale and histopathologicaly using H&E stain, trichrome and Orcein special stains. Results: All patients showed significant clinical improvement regardless of the treatment. There was a significant difference in clinical and histopathological improvement between group I and III, but there was no significant difference in improvement neither between group I and II nor between group II and III. Conclusion: microneedling could be as effective as fractional laser when combined with PRP and when used for more sessions.

CdSe@CdS Dot@Platelet Nanocrystals: Controlled Epitaxy, Mono-Exponential Decay of Two-Dimensional Exciton, and Non-Blinking Photoluminescence of Single Nanocrystal
摘要: Wurtzite CdSe@CdS dot@platelet nanocrystals—a dot-shaped CdSe nanocrystal encased within an epitaxially-grown CdS nanoplatelet—are controllably synthesized with nearly monodisperse size/shape distribution and outstanding photoluminescence (PL) properties. The excellent size/shape control with their lateral to thickness dimension ratio up to 3 to 1 is achieved by systematically studying the synthetic parameters, which results in a simple, tunable yet reproducible epitaxy scheme. This special type of core/shell nanocrystals possess two-dimensional emission dipole with the ab plane of the wurtzite structure. While their near-unity PL quantum yield and mono-exponential PL decay dynamics are at the same level of the-state-of-art CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals in dot shape, CdSe@CdS dot@platelet nanocrystals possess ~2 orders of magnitude lower probability for initiating PL blinking at single-nanocrystal level than the dot-shaped counterparts do.

Effect of low-intensity laser radiation on hemostasis in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
摘要: Objective. The study presents results of the low-intensity intravenous (IV) laser radiation effect on some indicators of the hemostasis system and respiratory function of 83 patients with a chronic lung disease (COPD), stable phase, II-III (after GOLD scale), including 51 men and 32 women. The average COPD duration was 9.6±4.4 years. Materials and methods. All patients with COPD were randomly divided into 2 groups - comparison (30 people) and main (53 people). The control group consisted of 20 practically healthy people, matched by sex and age. Patients in the control group received only standard drug therapy with IGCC/DBA combination (budesonide/formoterol, salmeterol/fluticasone propionate inhalation at a therapeutic dose corresponding to the COPD clinical symptoms severity). Result and Discussion. In addition to the basic treatment, the main group received a course of intravenous low-intensity laser radiation. As established before the treatment initiation, patients with COPD experienced a decrease in FEV1, Tiffno index, SaO2. Conclusion. The respiratory function disruption was accompanied by a significant activation of plasma hemostasis (prothrombin time shortening, thrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time) and a significant increase in platelet aggregation (increase in the aggregation degree, aggregation rate, decrease in the aggregation time). At the same time, in patients with COPD, a significant decrease in anticoagulant activity was observed before treatment, particularly antithrombin III decrease when compared with the control group (p <0.05) and CRP (main group: 0.86±0.02; control group: 0.85±0.02). The introduction of low-intensity laser radiation into the patients complex with COPD led to the these parameters normalization.

摘要: It was shown that the combined use of photodynamic therapy of different wavelengths (red ? = 660 nm, green = 530 nm, blue ? = 440 nm), hematopoietic stem cells and platelet growth factor is an effective treatment for purulent-septic complications, which can be considered as a new technology for correcting afferent and efferent immunoreactivity in patients with chronic purulent wounds that are not susceptible to antibiotic therapy.

Low-level light therapy reduces platelet destruction during extracorporeal circulation
摘要: Extracorporeal circulation causes many deleterious effects on blood cells. Low-level light therapy (LLLT) in the red/near-infrared spectral range is known for its cytoprotective properties but its use during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has not yet been studied. We aimed to assess whether LLLT protects platelets during CPB. 24 pigs were connected to 1-hour-CPB and observed for the next 23 hours. In 12 animals, blood circulating through the oxygenator was treated with LLLT. Platelet count and function were monitored throughout the experiment. The decrease in platelet count was greater in the control group, especially during CPB and after 24 hours. In LLLT group CD62P expression remained quite stable up to the 12th hour of the experiment, whereas in the control group it continuously decreased till the end of observation. Platelets in the control group were more prone to aggregation in the postoperative period than at the beginning of the experiment, whereas platelets in the LLLT group aggregated similarly or less intense. Limitation of platelet loss, pattern of aggregation and CD62P expression suggest that LLLT may stabilize platelet function during CPB and diminish the negative effects associated with the interaction of cells with an artificial surface.

Quasi-Octave Bandwidth In-Phase Three-Layer Platelet Orthomode Transducer Using Improved Power Combiners
摘要: A 64% instantaneous bandwidth turnstile-junction-based orthomode transducer (OMT) made up of only three layers in a platelet configuration is presented. Such frequency coverage, while maintaining a very much reduced number of layers, is accomplished mainly by incorporating an improved power combiner based on noncontacting matching steps machined in one layer. This solution makes a real impact on the compactness concept of these OMTs while maintaining an excellent electrical performance. An OMT in the 10–20-GHz band was designed and measured by obtaining a return loss of 25 dB, an isolation between rectangular ports of 50 dB, a cross-coupling of 45 dB, and an insertion loss below 0.2 dB.
