  • Sensitization of TiO <sub/>2</sub> by the symmetric cationic polymethine dye for the photocatalytic reduction of methylene blue

    摘要: Using the spectral, electrochemical and energy transformation characteristics of the cationic polymethine dye (D) 2-[(1E)-1,3-butadienyl-]-1-(phenylmethyl)-benindolium borfluoride, it has been found that the dye can be applied as a highly efficient sensitizer of TiO2. An intensity of the initially narrow light adsorption band becomes wider and embraces practically entire visible and near IR zones as a result of application of the dye to the surface of TiO2. Due to this effect, a wider array of light quanta can potentially be involved in the photocatalytic transformations. Some new heterostructures (HS) of the type D/TiO2 have been developed and their photocatalytic activities were determined in the test reaction of reduction of methylene blue by formaldehyde for different dye contents and under various modes of irradiation. The schemes of the energy transformation initiated by the light with different wavelengths are proposed and discussed.

  • Highly selective antenna effect of graphene quantum dots (GQDs): A new fluorescent sensitizer for rare earth element terbium in aqueous media

    摘要: This study focused on the fluorescence antenna-sensitizing effect of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) in a case on the detection of terbium ions. A simple one-step chemical oxidation method was applied for the preparation of GQDs starting from the regular multilayer graphene oxide (GO) via the refluxing in a concentrated mixture of strong acids. The as-prepared GQD were further evaluated as a fluorescent sensitizer to the terbium ion. An expanded in-deep mechanism study on the fluorescence phenomena during the interaction of the as-prepared GQDs and REEs was made. The highly selective antenna effect of GQD on one of REEs’ aqueous media, which was terbium (III), was identified. The excited terbium ion emitted its long-living fluorescence based on its own characteristic line-typed f-f transition, contrasting to a undetectable fluorescence in a very poor quantum yield in its aqueous solution induced by water collisions. This study, in the first place, identified the significant sensitization effect of the as-prepared GQD on the terbium ion in a high selectivity in aqueous media. The detectable linear range and the detection limit of the terbium ion was 0-30×10-6 mol L-1 (R2=0.9960) of 0.3 × 10-6 mol L-1, respectively. The excitation wavelength and the optimal fluorescence wavelength were 230 nm 546 nm, respectively. Further material characterizations, involving XPS, FTIR, Raman and the Zeta potential, verified the important participation of carboxyl function groups on the as-prepared GQD.

  • Modulation of F?rster and Dexter Interactions in Single‐Emissive‐Layer All‐Fluorescent WOLEDs for Improved Efficiency and Extended Lifetime

    摘要: White organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) with thermally activated delayed fluorophor sensitized fluorescence (TSF) have aroused wide attention, considering their potential for full exciton utilization without noble-metal containing phosphors. However, performances of TSF-WOLEDs with a single-emissive-layer (SEL) still suffer from low exciton utilization and insufficient blue emission for proper white balance. Here, by modulating F?rster and Dexter interactions in SEL-TSF-WOLEDs, high efficiencies, balanced white spectra, and extended lifetimes are realized simultaneously. Given the different dependencies of F?rster and Dexter interactions on intermolecular distances, sterically shielded blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters and orange conventional fluorescent dopants (CFDs) with electronically inert peripheral units are adopted to enlarge distances of electronically active chromophores, not only blocking the Dexter interaction to prevent exciton loss but also finely suppressing the F?rster one to guarantee balanced white emission with sufficient blue components. It thus provides the possibility to maximize device performances in a large range of CFD concentrations. A record high maximum external quantum efficiency/power efficiency of 19.6%/52.2 lm W?1, Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage coordinate of (0.33, 0.45), and prolonged half-lifetime of over 2300 h at an initial luminance of 1000 cd m?2 are realized simultaneously for SEL-TSF-WOLEDs, paving the way toward practical applications.
